---If you spread out the defense then the line of scrimmage is not stacked up. This means the RBs can get a LOT of yards when they run IF the QB actually throws the ball quite a bit which means their defense has to cover the receivers rather close. The spread offense doesn't mean you throw every down (or even most of them), just scare the defense into covering them and opening up the middle,

----As they say, "Don't care what you say just spell my name right". ----Most people had never heard of FIU either but since that Miami fight a lot of folks NOW know who they are and the fact that they tried to handle the situation properly. --- North Texas has been seen in print and on TV a lot lately, not just in the Metroplex but statewide and nationally. I think attention given to other Sunbelt teams help us a little as well... we suddenly are not playing some total unknowns anymore.

--- We that wanted Dodge before he was hired kept saying this but several thought it was stupid to hire as HS coach and in fact some even refered to him as "an unknown". Obviously they don't really follow football. ---We could say "Told you so, but I won't". Time will tell but because of all the attention he/we are getting, I expect him to recruit well and in as couple years to be winning a lot. --If nothing else, expect interest to increase and his games to be anything but dull.

----I think Evangel are the same cheap "dogs" that played Midland Lee a few years ago (a couple years after Ced Benson was here with three consecutive state championships) and defeated Lee in the rain and then when the coaches met at midfield after the game they told the Lee coach they were cancelling out of the return trip to Midland........ They had signed a home and home deal but refused to visit West Texas the next year..... nice guys...they did not fulfill their end of the bargain and it was a very expensive trip for Lee.

--I think size is his "problem"... not talent... most colleges are wanting taller QBs. Smaller QBs can thrive in some systems but not all. Apparently he fits his father's style of offense but might not some others..... Remember Doug Flute and Fran Tarkington... both were fairly short and most places did not want them but they were successful. ---John Elway did not play at the college that his father coached. Size obviously was not an issue with him.

Elway did not play for father when in college.. John went to Stamford... His father was coach at San Jose or Fresno State if I remember correctly.

Bump---- vote for the UNT girl... Caris ( of UNT) has almost a 40,000 lead..... it appears that the Tenn girl's supporters are slowing down and realizing it is the fourth quarter and they are down by a lot of points.... pour it on... ir is not over, yet.. Good week for UNT it appears.

--- Same article appeared in Midland paper and it was the lead story on the front of the sports page. --- Local TV station sportscaster joked that the AAAAA HS coaches in state gave a big sigh of relief on hearing Dodge was headed for North Texas.

--- The top Story in the "Midland Reporter Telegram" sports page today had Dodge and North Texas in the headline.... It was followed by a sizable article. --- Rather funny was what a local sportcaster came up on the 10:00 TV news.... He basicly stated that a big sigh of relief was heard from all the AAAAA football coaches in the state upon hearing Dodge was leaving the HS ranks and going to North Texas.....LOL

Some those know about nothing about football or have any common sense... Some of them are contradicting them however.

I agree.... ---It will be very interesting to see the attendance number of the first few games next year.... Expect a few Southlake and area folks to show up as well for a few of them plus I think the student body will get curious and attend better..... Hope we can keep it going... --My opinion is that he will recruit very well and that it may take until year 3 to get to where we would like to be. Don't expect miracles next year... but I think improvement will be shown next year and a lot more discipline from the players (a lot fewer stupid penalties). That can turn a lot of games around because they tend to demoralize a team.

--She will win $1000 ... maybe the poor kid will able to buy a pair of decent pants....LOL ---Tennessee voting may have slowed because they realize they can not win or then again they may really make a push late in the week.... keep looking... need to keep the 20,000 lead which may discourage them from making a last minute run..

--I am one of the geezers of the board.... two degrees.... '66 and '75 ...but two of my three offspring have NT degrees as well.... 2000 and 2003. --"Fans "would have made sense as an option as well. My third one (Aggie) often goes to games with his brother as does another Aggie buddy who lives in Dallas.. They love the ticket prices (and the tail-gating and the girl watching) compared to the A&M ticket prices plus NT is close-by. If we get "name" teams coming to Denton and we can be competitive with them , attendence will really improve.

---Four years should be enough to indicate the direction that he is going....we could add an extension during during that time or have it an option year in the contract. We need a rather large buy-out provision should he leave early... A lot of programs pay so much they would not mind paying "the buy out" if they viewed our new coach as that successful or desirable. With what we pay I would expect a highly successful one to be hired away from us and if he isn't then the four-year deal is enough.

----Personally I would like to see the a 16 team playoff---- eleven conference champs plus 5 more (could be independents or from a conference) ---- with no more than two representaives per conference. -----The Holiday bowl system could still exist for those teams not selected as the 16 playoff teams... Most bowl games now have no effect on the top 5-6 teams in final standings anyway. We have about 60 teams involved in bowls now... This is not increasing
