----White Water was a development of 244 acres in the Arkansas wilderness ... [way overdone investigation] and after spending $60,000,000 in investigation fees ( or $230,000 per acre ) Starr could not find enough evidence to prosecute any of the Clintons for anything but did get one guy McDougal for some illegal acts. Either Starr was a very incompetent investigator or there wasn't much if anything there. ---None of the 9-11 people had ever lived in Iraq [ 16 of the 19 were from Saudi Arabia ] No terrorist acts against the USA or Europe have ever come from Iraq. Saddam was a very bad guy but most those he killed were Islamic crazies trying to overthrow him. ... as they had done in Iran. He was no supporter or friend of Al-queda... Yes they are there NOW causing us problems but not there before our invasion... Saddam just did them in because he also feared their influence. Saddam was a thug, not a Islamic crazy... We should have spend more efforts after Ben-Laden instead... he is OUR bad guy... and still out there. ---Fight them here..???... We heard that same comment about the Commies before and during Viet Nam. After we pulled out in 1975... I don't remember them coming here. --She voted for it---YES-- most of Congress thought that the "White House was been honest with them and had ABSOLUTE PROOF of that WMD existed and that we we in danger." .. It turns out about all they had was the word of ONE Iraqi person that had left Iraq. No one has the answer for the mess we are in now... the problem is the the mess should have never occured to begin with. It seems likely now that Iraq may become what Iran is... a Crazy Islamic republic that hates us and we will be even worse off.

State Of The Nation: Basketball In Texas
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to Objective Aggie's topic in Mean Green Basketball
---Hey..!!! We are talking about SMU ..who has been known to "cheat" a little and talk about others with total disrespect and distort a lot of facts about us and others to the press. --- They won't mind.... after all they must believe: "Do unto others as YOU WOULD HAVE THEM DO UNTO YOU.. After all it is a private Christian school. -
----Great Stuff--... Personally I hate those dumb blowups things such as the Nebraska one shown. All they can do is just stand there and look stupid. ----Stanford's is so bad it is funny especially if you read the story about it. They were forced a few years ago to change the mascot to Cardinals instead of Indians and I'll bet this showed up as a bit of protest to the change. ----I would move the Buckeye up... really dumb looking....not even funny.. at least Southern Illinios is funny..... and likely can get the crowd to react. ----The comments about Xavier is the best (comment).. ----George Mason's.... they are Patroits and this "thing" looks kid-friendly and funny for basketball games and could do looney things, more than a patroit guy could.... -How could the Horned-frog be overlooked???... it is awful..

This Article Will Raise Some Dander & Some Eyebrows
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
---What a pity----perhaps the Belt is like an old-girl friend....... now that they ran off and sowed their oats elsewhere do we really want them back??? Besides we now have 13 basketball members, 9 football members.. do we really want or need them??? They are no longer all that outstanding at anything either. It is too bad that the green pastures of the WAC have turned brown.... the Texas members of the WAC ran of and left them and now they are 1000's of miles away from their conference mates... which is no longer much better (if any) than the Belt is or will be shortly.. Perhaps if the CUSA readjusts than LaTech maybe someone to look at by us and them. -
---The ones that get shut down say bad things about the current group in power and disagreement over the invasion of Iraq....not the other way around. I am no Hillary fan either but at least least no one died as the result of that bad disgusting decision by Clinton....unlike Iraq. [ which is now longer than the fighting of WWII ] and has deteriorated into a war of religious Islamic crazies trying to gain control...... are we really better off now.????

---1984--- ??? ---I don't really approve of booing HS kids who are paid nothing to compete (especially by adults) but this is ridiculious. Might make an exception to the crowd booing an entire opposing team when they show up on the field... that is sort of funny (usually ends in laughter) and not directed at anyone. ...LOL. --A lot of the booing done at this level is of the refs because of questionable calls, and not the players anyway.

Tech To Add 30,000 Seats Over The Next 20 Years
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to ADLER's topic in Mean Green Football
Why ??? at least they voted to admit us to the SWC and they don't constantly trash us the in DMN and they have not been afraid to schedule us a few times unlike the "chickens" and arrogant %$#&^% at SMU that think they are too good for the rest of us. -
---We should even paint the OU field green to match our school colors like Boise paints theirs blue to match their colors......Maybe we should also learn and run those 2-3 plays Boise ran near the end of the bowl game just to freak them out..... the earlier the better.... LOL.

Tech To Add 30,000 Seats Over The Next 20 Years
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to ADLER's topic in Mean Green Football
---Why trash TxTech..!!! We would love to have at UNT games the 40-50,000 or so fans that attend now. (ENVY? by some) Lubbock is over 250,000 and with Midland/Odessa south of them 120 miles there is another 250,000 which half a million people and trust me a lot of this area goes to Lubbock to watch Tech. Distance means little out here. You can even toss in Amarillo which is north of them as well..it is no small village either..... Unlike Dallas there are no other I-A colleges even close to compete with in West Texas and there is no professional football, NBA, or MLB to complete with either... (UTEP is over 350 miles away and Dallas may be closer (UNT is) than El Paso. Many of the Tech games now are sold out.. especially the UT, A&M, OU and Nebraska ones. The last game I attended there was FIU last year (2005) and it was 90% sold out...... and it was a rather awful game with no one from FIU. Trust me they could fill an 80,000 stadium for some of their games... ---We should not build anything under 40,000 and have the capability to expand to a min of 70,000. I am very confident our situation will change greatly as the university gets larger, we get better, and we get better home schedules...... We will become the university of the metroplex as time goes on...[sorry about that SMU, not really ].. The northern edge of Dallas (well educated) is getting much closer every year... -
---A stadium does not make a team BUT a better more modern one and one that is LARGE ENOUGH will allow us to schedule a lot of teams that will not come to Denton or even to the fairly small Ford stadium now because of poor revenues and not enough of their fans can attend. ......and better well known teams mean more revenue and more fan interest. ...We can not compare much to SMU which is a private school that has ONE-THIRD our enrollment and is really disliked by a lot of people near Dallas (not just UNT people). They have fixed it so they do not appeal a lot to the "masses" as most state supported schools can largely because of their attitude to others.

The Bb Schedule For Next Season
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to Buford_Julep's topic in Mean Green Basketball
---North Texas, SMU, TCU, UT-A, and Baylor are five basketball D-I universities within about 100 miles of each other and representing five conferences that should play each other regularly. They would good fan draws, most should create good media interest, be cheap travel games, and would also be good for the athletes which often have to miss classes. They would be good week-day games for these reasons. All belong to conferences that require a lot of travel. Some conferences such as a lot of the ACC do not. Many of them are located very close together. -
----They lost the game because of two bad streaks, one in the final two min of the half and one in the second half. ... Those usually happen when players stop being patient and try to do things they haven't been doing in order to get those points lost back.... and things then get worse. --As coaches say "Keep your poise and stay in control of your emotions.". TAMUCC has sort of done the same thing in the last few minutes. --- These guys met all expectations and did about as well as they could... Hope the students support the Team better next year..... College year memories are made from what you do... and not for sitting at home watching TV, playing video games, or just wasting time in general.......
-
I think they started one senior... but anyway watch out for the Tigers next year... and this year isn't over. Except when Texas teams are playing ... I still support the old MVC teams [ once the best basketball conference in America ]

Have You Ever Felt Better About Unt Athletics?

Professor Weighs Unt’s Chances Of Winning Ncaa
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to GreenBat's topic in Mean Green Basketball
----That is REALLY optimistic... Even if every game was a coin flip (50-50) our chances would be 1 in 64 (less than 2%) If we go to a dice situation, which is still rather optimistic (1 in 6) Our chances are 1 in 45,656. ----Let's worry about them one at a time.... Beat Memphis and tame that Tiger. -
---Hope So.Bama can stop their four game losing streak and help the Belt's image. .... meanwhile Syracuse is mad to not be in the NCAA.

----White Helmets make a lot of sense especially if you have a team that passes a great deal and especially for night games... They are more visible to a QB as he looks down field for receivers over the defenders. Part II... I expect us to throw more and remember Dodge was a QB in HS and college and understands that advantage of white helmets (UT uses white ones, don't remember what PA had) It might not matter so much on road since we would be wearing white jerserys but at home with green jerseys it makes a lot of sense so the receivers don't just blend in with the background so much. ---North Texas helmets were exactly as decribed in the mid 60's... White with a football-like symbol with NT in it. Hope we go with the script or some type of overlapping NT. Did not care much for the side logo as it was then. No worm... too dated now. Personally I hope it is a good looking NT. ----TxTech, A&M, and Texas have used the same helmet symbol (or something very close to it) for years (decades?). Hope we get a good one and stay with it.

---Young's comments reminded me of a similiar comment about Tom Landry (who was a WWII pilot who flew into the Ruhr Valley, the industrial heart of Germany) . Landry was known for staying calm during games and someone asked him how he did it and he responded something to the fact: "After piloting planes through the Ruhr Valley, football games were not all that stressful". ---It brings on a new sense of importance of sports....Everyone loves to win but after it is over...everyone walks away...

--- I love "Roast Beef"... I will need to check that out if I get to make the trip.... LOL
-
--Sort of funny but Memphis fans in general have always been respectful to us.... So be careful.. But if this was SMU..!! ---At one time both us were MVC teams... I still wish them good luck except when playing NT or maybe some other Texas team.

What... Bush not really a Texan???... He was born in Connecticut, graduated from a New England preppie school, and has degrees from Yale and Harvard. Oh yeah... I live 1/2 mile from where he lived in Midland after he was married and he once jogged by my house at times. He went to school in Midland until the 8th grade then left and went to prep school but lived here a while during the 70's during the oil boom... his oil business was not that successful.. he made more money by buying the Rangers from bankrupted Eddie Chiles and then selling it, he or the Bush family owned 10% I think. ----Clinton did nothing different that 90% of college kids were doing during the 60's. We all had student deferments and a lot of us tried to join the National Guard which likely meant no service in Nam (I didn't but friends did, none succeeded). My deferment was revoked just as the Tet offensive was being fought and I had to take a physical....oddly I failed (age 23)... but so did ALL of us over 23 that day... however every 19 old passed. Do not compare Nam to WWII..completely different when Americans absolutely supported the effort and answered the call. WWII was a war to survive, Nam and Iraq isn't. The average PFC in Nam was 19.6, in WWII he was 27. Who knows now, no draft anymore. As for Lt. Gov. Barnes (the Lt.-Gov. mentioned) -- I have met him... he was even in my home when I was in HS.

----There are always teams that think they were "overlooked" and they always can make a pretty good case... I never feel sorry for the North-East teams, there have been many years that I (and lot of other people) think they got a lot more than their share, probably due to the fact that the media centers are located there and get more publicity that they deserve. . The NIT has been even worse... It once was referred to as the "Eastern Invitational Tournament". Poor Syracuse... ask Blakely (NT coach in the 70's) about them... probably the worse officiated game ever that he was involved in was on their court. That was the only time I remember him complaining about being "homered" by the refs. He was livid... ---We were overlooked 3 times during the 70's and had the best total 3 year regular season record of all NCAA D-I teams. Conference tournaments were rare then... and ESPN was a few years away. In fact we had the longest consecutive winning streak one of those years. ---If Niagra is all that good then they will get an easy first win.... we won't and if fact our first game will extremely difficult going against the longest winning streak in NCAA D-I,.... Memphis that has made the tournament 20 times mostly if not all in the last 35 years.

Cancel School On Friday?
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to MeanGreengdub's topic in Mean Green Basketball
----Never said I opposed some classes being cancelled..but all of them... let each prof decide..... but with MWF classes something should be able to be worked out for those who want to go. Like I said the students (in general) have NOT shown a lot of interest until they want out out of class.... Too bad they could not walk across campus to a game when we had games in DENTON.. -
