---You are the one that opened the gate, then the mules (hard working stubborn animals) got out!!!! --LOL la-la-la-LA

--We can hope the person that tabultes the votes isn't from Florida. The last time, the Secretary of State who was appointed and was in charge of the elections, had been a delegate of her party to the national convention and had even campaigned for the person that won. As a result when the dispute happened, she did everything possible to influence the election in the way she wanted it to go. You would think the person in charge of the election should at least APPEAR TO BE NEUTRAL and just apply the election laws... that wasn't what was happening..

I Would Like You New Fans To Watch This
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to stebo's topic in Mean Green Football
---And even worse.... you know that the game results from WAC games are never in Sunday papers ( or weekday mornings in case of basketball) in the Eastern time zone and miss a lot of Central Zone papers. SunBelt Games can have write ups and scores available. The WAC is bad deal for lots of reasons, one of which we would lose even more media attention in newspapers and would not even make ESPN -TV at a reasonable hour for most people, especially those on the East coast. We need all the attention we can get. -- ---Amen Stebo.... those who complain now don't understand how it was...... I still insist the best thing to happen to us was the breakup of the SWC.... we were completely ignored then since only NT and UTEP in Texas were not members. Now we have a chance to improve our status and are doing so. -
--- Whoever broadcasts the games provides the TV cameras and staff to man them. It is also a bit difficult to place cameras to not show empty stands with the attendance that we have been having. I don't think North Texas gets much blame here.... whatever network and our lack of fans in attendance are responsible. ---The odd twist is that by broadcasting games locally to Dallas often cause some fans to just stay home and watch on TV and not attend the game in person...... that is why the NFL blacks out games that are not sold out. This will get very interesting once the new stadium in Arlington is constructed... very large and sellouts may get very scarce.... watch the people of Dallas scream then....meanwhile we in West Texas will get to watch. .

---Well Uncle Bill (Gates) didn't have a pile of large money to start with but he had some good ideas and worked hard and became successful. Perhaps we can do the same. We should support our fellow family members and wish them success because their success helps us as well. It doesn't help us to to insult and run down those that are kin to us. In general most of our guys are larger than the most CUSA family members and I think ours has more potential once they can motivate their people and get outsiders attention. Let us hope some of our family members can get their act together and be very successful which can help the image of all of us. ---I don't think anyone is "beating their chest" about a 4-3 record against the CUSA but at least it indicates that they aren't much richer than our family -- if any. The only advantages they have to us is they are are closer to visit which reduces travel expenses and better known locally which would cause larger groups at our gatherings. I think our patience will be rewarded.. The SWC group has dissolved only relative recently ( to people who are my old age) and memories of that group is fading which is a good thing for us and UTEP who were never allowed into that club. --- I did not realize we had such an intellectual group here... Now we are discussing Latin and the details of that language. I am even married to a Latin teacher and am picking up on details. I enjoy harassing her by pointing out Attila the Hun considered the Romans as barbarians. He had seen the brutal games at the Coliseum while in Rome after being invited to fight as a mercenary for Rome. (also to pay him off so he would leave them alone) By the way he regularly defeated the wealthy well known Roman armies despite the fact he had less resources..... we can do the same. --- The Hun -- ( NT, MCMLXVI et MCMLXXV) Re Ethopian (and others) kids--mentioned above: Their problem is all about exponential equations (I teach mathematics). They can't have 8-9-10 kids and expect to be able to feed, shelter and cloth people with that kind of rapid growth..... they can't improve food and other conditions that fast... after all the amount of land is not increasing. The USA did for a while when the west was open for expansion but we could not even do that anymore. The best way to help them is to help them get their population growth under control then conditions might improve. Apparently the Easter Islanders disappeared after they had used up all their trees due to over-population and had nothing left for shelter or heat or even make boats so they could fish or leave.

---I hate my family, we ain't multi-millionaires, I wish we were richer. I am hoping that Bill Gates will adopt us and then we will get more respect I even have a crazy cousin in Denver that doesn't fit in. I keep hoping that that multi-millionaire will adopt us and we will be better off but it isn't happening. I guess I should just complain and whine about not being better off and getting no respect instead of just making the best of situation and seeing what I can do to help my situation. The old guys in my family are total morons and don't know anything. It is obvious that the young ones are the only ones with any common sense. ---It is is true that we once were very poor but now have improved to middle class or better but I want to be accepted by the super wealthy NOW ---not sometime in the distant future. Those above 25 just don't get it... I want super success.... and now. Maybe if I just left home asnd beat on the wealthy folks door they would accept me. My family just isn't improving fast enough to suit me. Patience is for the total morons...... even though our situation have improved a lot in recent years. They tell me I should actually learn the facts and history about the family but I see no need for that. Perhaps I should just dump them and head out on my on since I am obviously wiser since I have been an adult less than 10 years. ---LOL---

---Not really... when someone is that incompetent and made so many bad decisions that most people realize are wrong. ---There is also a thin line between being a financial conservative and "cheap". Sometimes you just need to spend a few bucks, it is better in the long run... example: maybe spending a few bucks to change the car's oil is better than saving a few bucks. [statewise: Texas needs to support education and parks !! ] ---At least ol' Jerry knows "you have to spend (invest) a few bucks in other to make a few bucks".
-
--I like irritating the stores with few or no NT "goods" by asking if they have any--- then follow it up by saying. "That is surprising since North Texas is larger than TCU, SMU and Baylor combined".....or even saying that we are larger than TxTech... in other words a rather larger market is being missed. It makes them think a bit about it. Many people have no idea we are that large. ---- One advantage of starting a season playing universities such as OU, UT etc. .... it makes people think about us as being a major university which we are. When we play "name" universities it upgrades our visibility to many people. It sure got a lot of locals attention when we defeated or gave Tech a tough time. Most people here don't realize that North Texas is as large as it is.

Cotton Bowl Eyes Annual Texas Tech/osu Game
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
---Sounds likes an inferiority complex or defeatist attitude. At one time maybe when we were " the SWC outsider" and almost everyone else in Texas was a member it was somewhat true but not now. There a lot of people who really want to play closer to home and to go somewhere that is not surrounded by plowed fields but instead by lakes, trees, less dirt, and a large city.. Tech is a very isolated place and although the people are ok, the scenery, and environment isn't all that great. At least at NT there will be a lot of jobs and opportunities available nearby after graduation unlike at Lubbock. Some recruits want to go where they think they have an opportunity to play soon and not two-three years later. Tech is in a better known conference but North Texas has a much better location and for those wanting an education, Tech has no advantage really except in some select fields. The truth is the more media and fan attention we get, the better we can recruit. --- I think have a Dallas game will help them in recruiting some and I also agree it will be harder for TCU, SMU, and us to schedule them if they play the OSU game in Dallas since they also visit Waco every other year as well which means recuits will play the Dallas area regularly for parents etc. to see them. ---For many, Lubbock and Tech is not that appealing..... as a couple of my kids said after visiting friends at Tech... Lubbock is nothing more than a "dirty Midland" (none went there, two to NT, one to A&M.. all now work in Dallas area and all go to NT events). The lack of a lot of other entertainment opportunities also explains why their athletic attendence is as large as it is.... what else does one do up there for grins, no other major sports teams, or fishing, water skiing, or good hunting, or anything like state fairs, or events likes Dallas area has. This explains why Tech gets so much fan support from area people. -
---Better than at one stadium... it is rumored Jimmy Hoffa's "real" head is located there.....encased in cement,

---We are talking football.. QB's in particular. Lubbock is an awful place to live [i live in Midland, wife grew up in Lubbock]. It is pretty much surrounded by plowed fields in the Spring and the dirt/dust level can be unbelievable at times. Midland/Odessa is Paradise compared to Lubbock. --Spike Dykes did fairly well at Tech, only three losing seasons in thirteen years and none of his last 7 which were mostly Big-XII years. NT defeated him two of those final years. Losses to NT in Lubbock and the UT blow-outs did him in. Alums were really upset around here when we defeated them. -

---Really... as far as QB's go -- Tech is near the top of NCAA in passing yards every year, defeats the Aggies regularly, has defeated Texas as recently as the Simms era, and is definitely third in attendance in Texas, and I think most of us would swap conferences with them [as well as five other I-A schools in Texas] and while doing this has won 49 games in the past 6 years playing Big-XII competition.... We won 34, went to four bowl games, meanwhile thiose mighty mustangs in Dallas won 21 in those 6 years [3.5 wins per year] and we defeated them in their BEST year, 6-6 with a 3-8 team. They are the joke of state... __________ Just for fun: records 2001-2006 of Texas I-A's UT 66 - 11 TCU 55 - 19 TTU 49 - 25 A-M 39 - 33 NT 34 - 39 UH 31 - 42 Rice 28 - 42 UTEP 27 - 45 BU 21 - 48 smu 21 - 48 __________________ -
-- The rule is likely not just about sidewalks... some idiots will chalk up other things... as well. We (where I teach) have a concrete column chalked up and traces of it is still there about 3 years later... Guess they will eventually have to sandblast it for it to go away, it announced a college related event. ---I can remember during the 60's, at NT, a group regularly painting small signs on the walks around campus and they (the grounds-crews) regularly had to clean them up (not chalk, sometimes paint and sometimes something else (tempera?) sort-of washable. ---The problem is some folks just don't know when to quit and push the envelope and ruin it for everyone else. [politics, religion, some radical groups, anti-whatever, and not just sports] If you have ever been around a school ...once a few write begin on desks or walls then a lot of folks thinks it is "open season" and it gets worse in a hurry.. That is why they are so anxious to get graffiti up in a hurry..

Awason (2005) is listed. Cobbs has never appeared in a regular season game... that could easily explain his absense. -
--Patrick may not be in a very good situation now.... New coach in Miami .... plus Ricky Williams may return ...plus Miami drafted a RB (Lorenzo Booker) in the 3rd round. Maybe some other place will be interested if things get too crowded. Congrats to Quinn... he appears to have a chance .... very cold place and especially to be catching balls in December.

---They seem to think SMU has 6200 students.... which may be correct ......the other 4000 are just party animals and enrollee/donors because of daddy. --RE: Attendance... that was one of SMU's better days.... maybe it doesn't seem quite as embarrassing if they only have 6200 enrollees... hmmmm...Are they fibbing about how many students they have... would not be the first time they haven't been honest.....!! LOL
-
---Agree ----however in the case of some teams, they won't come to Fouts Field because of its SIZE of the stadium and the because of that the "gate" will not be very large so they play elsewhere (plus not enough space to meet their fan's needs). We are back to the chicken and egg again, one variable affects the other (differential equations anyone??)

Finally Getting Into The Game

--I assume he means that Montgomery is the only recruit that took place in Spring Drills... the rest are still in high School and not on campus. Montgomery transfered here from a JC and was able to take part.

--I would think the mostly likely position for HS grads to fill would be WR. For lineman they (HS) recruits) usually don't have the strength or size of older players or that they will have eventually and several other positions require time to learn everything they need to know. The second part of that for us is we actually will need more WRs with the Dodge system. By the end of the year, several positions may have younger players starting but I would not expect a lot of them in the first couple of games. No doubt several will be playing some as back-ups getting experience and being evaluated some but will likely not have a lot of playing time early in the year.

Now That We Have Four Months Without Football

--- Anyone watch the "Tele-Tubbies" today? We could discuss the intellectual qualities of that program and maybe even the subliminal messages that Tinkie-Winkie is trying to convey to the youth of America. (according to Bro. Falwell) .... -
---The WAC lovers need to click on that one and see how far-flung that thing is and how far away most of the teams are (from North Texas), plus Hawaii is not even shown.

---I think he is refering to the baskets being from the Safeway Parking lot. Where we once offfered to play them.
