---Ronnie Brown is listed as #1, ---Lorenzo Booker is listed as #2 and was a 2007 rd 3 pick ---Patrick is listed as #3 ---There a couple of others listed on the roster including Jesse Chatman who is short but huge for his height. There are likely some non-drafted signees that do not appear on the list. Good luck to Patrick. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/mia/dept...GxHpe0xEk6L2bYF

Louisiana Tech Receives $1.1million From The W A C

---They got the big payoff one year... the others they didn't. Do you really think this will happen most of the time??? Considering their travel thepasst 3-4 years, did this really pay all the excessive bills.??? ---Sounds like the green is always greener idea... just because there is one great small patch of grass of the other sided doesn't mean the cow should "jump" the fence to get it. By the way would we have made the NCAA basketball tournament from the WAC..?? That paid us fairly well also. -
--- I don't give a frap what they think.. As a group (there are a few good ones) theyz act as if they are superior to everyone (not just us) but know they aren't. Their efforts to put us down (including name calling ) is just an indication that they know they can not compete with us if put into an equal situation (same conference etc. ). ---They remind me of a former beauty queen whose looks have faded and now just lives in the past. ---kick smu's rear and make it hurt... They no longer accept reality....Love the Woody Allen quote by one of their posters, it may be the most accurate comment there. ...THE OLD GREY PONY AIN'T WHAT SHE USED TO BE.!!!

Riley's And Mom's Comments About Switch To Unt
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
My guess... if Vizza does well this year, then Riley red-shirts (puts him two years behind Vizza ) .... if the QB situation goes poorly then he doesn't. -
Observation: Kirby Freeman graduated from Brownwood HS ( his father was head coach when he graduated) , Graham Harrell was born in Brownwood (his father was an assistant HS coach at that time).

Denton Is 9th Fastest In Nation In Growth
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
----Better quality really isn't the issue.... BETTER KNOWN and other universities IN THE AREA who have alums and sstudents that our students and alums associate with. You hate to lose to your friends more than just some random stranger.. The quality of smu and baylor football is nothing to get excited about... after all we have defeated them so they are no better (maybe worse) than we are. In fact we defeated smu with a team that was 3-9 which includes a win over them. The "Old Grey Pony" ain't what she used to be, will likely never be again to the regret of the smu-tters... (thank you Gov. Clements) A new sherriff is in the Dallas-metroplex area and they are wearing Green. -

How Much Of An Advantage Will Have Vs. Smu ?
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to NT03's topic in Mean Green Football
--Don't be surprised if Tech fans show up in mass. It is a long way to Lubbock and they don't play in the Dallas area very much plus there are a lot of alums in the metroplex.. They play an interesting game -style which a lot of alums would like to see. It could pretty close to being full. Ford is a rather small stadium.....about HS size.... I expect several SMU freshman will go... they have not yet learned it is "not cool" to watch SMU football. -
---I'll be there... from 350 miles away**.... We will have a big crowd... it may not be in Denton but as stated it is very close for a lot of NT alums....and students too.... people are always stating we are a commuter school (from Dallas county). ** West-Texas mottoe: "Have car will travel". miles mean little to us out here.

----John Love... from the mid 60's....I am old ... He caught over 2000 yards in this final two years in 10 game seasons and was a fairly short guy but quick and could get high in the air... He played in the NFL briefly for the "Redskins" plus he played some basketball at UNT. His QB was Vidal Carlin. I do like Quinn though...good player, nice guy. 1000 yds seasons: 1966, John Love, 1130 1968, Barry Moore, 1053 1969, Barry Moore, 1130 1994, David Brown, 1013 And we've had only three close calls besides that. 1965, John Love, 994 1982, Marvin Walker, 934 1988, Marcus Camper, 938

---Those 1000 year seasons duing the '60 were done with only 10 games, not 11, or 12. Enjoyed watching John Love....he was not all that tall but could really get high in the air..... He was also on the basketball team as a bench player that got quite a bit of playing time even though we in the MVC playing Louisville, Cincinatti, Tulsa, etc.

---It is also close to the ratio of losses to wins for the last two years of Dickie Ball ( a black period ) .... or as one post said... about never. ( mean ) --Leach: Could it be some of you don't like lawyers? (he has a Law degree from Pepperdine) What has he ever done to us other than defeat us, which he was paid to do. Admittedly his personally seems as bland as white bread, not like Spike Dykes who constantly had people laughing but had West Texas wanting to lynch him after losing to us a time or two.

We will have more than 10,000..... closer to 20,000.... remember Dodge's Southlake fans are nearby as well and it will be his first Game in the North Texas area..
-
He looked very good at blocking kicks as well... He must be very fast.
-
We have two alternate Jerseys... White and Green...... besides the color black now has a bad history at NT.. Don't mind it as a "highlight" on the numbers etc but not black in general.

--I believe Brewster is at Cisco JC as an assistant where his former Midland Lee HS coach, Parchman, is now the head coach.. Hurd, no idea.

Big X I I Picks - Oklahoma Vunerable Early ?
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
---Against a fast pass happy team they could have a problem. The key is throw it and in a hurry, and wear their tails out.... which could work even better in hot weather and these boys are bent over sucking air. Run the devil out of these guys, even sweeps will wear them out some. Later in the game then running the ball occasionally might work well. Be unpredictable One the things is really liked about Gordon Wood in Brownwood ( my hometown) years ago... His offensive plan changed every week to damage what the other team had problems with. Some weeks there would be lots of passing and then the next not very much. Dodge KNOWS HOW TO WIN (79-1) and will not do the same thing every week and will not try to do the game-plan the other team wants NT to play. ---If you look at their losses the past two years, the teams that gave them trouble were teams that could throw the ball well. ---I also hope that we can pressure their inexperienced QB early and force mistakes and get into his head. If he starts doing poorly the OU crowd will not be patient with him since he has no history of winning. ---------- Interesting (first three games of OU past two years)...3-3 2006: defeated (3-9) UAB by 7, defeated (5-7) Washington by 17, lost to (7-6) Oregon by 1. 2005: lost to (11-1) TCU by 7, defeated (9-4) Tulsa by 16, lost to (10-2) UCLA by 17. -
History Of The S W C Breakup
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
---I agree the "Leftover Four" group is the interesting part of the story and has had long term effects on the WAC and CUSA. They could (I think should) have stayed together as the SWC and I doubt they would have had much trouble getting back to eight members. There would have been four of them (I had forgotten Arkansas left earlier) so they would have need to add four teams. UTEP and Tulsa would likely jumped at the chance. We were I-AA but had a very large enrollment and was a "cheap trip" so they should have considered us. Other that these there was LaLa (Southwest Lousiana then, which had had some success especially in basketball at that time and LaTech which also had been successful at times, especially girls basketball. All of the listed ones would have fit the "Southwest Conference" name. Even New Mexico State could have entered the mix so ten members were possible. Tulane would likely prefered their CUSA membership with Memphis and So. Miss, --- It is interesting that the "Remaining Four" felt they could not survive on their own without the "big boys" of Texas, A&M, and Tech. Maintaining the SWC would have sure reduced the travel costs they got themselves into and would likely have created (somewhat maintained) interest in their games since they would have fed off the history of the SWC. I think they still had the Cotton Bowl tie in as well, at least for a while, until the BCS era appeared. What they have done instead hasn't worked out too well for them, except maybe for TCU ---after three conference changes and lots of expensive travel. Once they have a bad year or two I doubt they will get much fan support because they have no natural rivals in that league as they did when playing the old SWC teams. -
---I better get my passport ready... I have always wanted to visit the Yucatan.

---Too bad that the rest of the SWC just gave up instead replacing at least three of the four leaving (leaving 8 team conference) , It would been nice have added UTEP, North Texas and perhaps a Louisiana school or Tulsa to keep it intact. I think they would have eventually been better off with more recognition in Texas and the Southwest. . I am sure we would have been. Only TCU may have benefited from not maintaining the SWC but that took time to accomplish.. -
I hope I keep hearing the title of the thread--- again and again.....!! ---" PONIES LOSE ANOTHER " --- and especially after the second week of the season... --It could not happen to a nicer groups of guys ( I can't believe I called them nice)

Who Will Score Our First Touchdown?
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to Charlie NT 73's topic in Mean Green Football
---Opening kickoff by us..... the ball appears to going out of end-zone but stops a few inches short ..... meanwhile OU players start trotting off field and a member of our kicking team jumps on it...... TD...... NT 6, OU 0 { I have seen this happen in a HS game, just not the opening kickoff ) -
---They were awful..... they were meant to send an insulting message to North Texas and they did not even have the university name on them... They were not game quality uniforms... Now that the practice field is going to be named for him I hope he is having second thoughts about his classless decision.... ---Every coach knows they are not hired for life... even Landry with his outstanding NFL record and 5 Super Bowl appearances was released from his position...DD did not even have a winning record at NT and had won only 5 game in two years in a less than outstanding conference. It should have not come as any surprise.
