Moore is 99-for-99 in extra points at North Texas
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Unfortunately kickers don't get much notice unless they miss some kicks .. especially important ones... We have a good one .... hope he gets the recognition he deserves. -
The final week is the 12th game ..... but appears in week 13 .... with the bye included as week 6. Guess that confused them.

I mentioned the word "Conservative" and got kicked of... it is not what I said about guns which wasn't insulting to anyone .. others were posting about guns. ... The article and the posts afterwards on this thread are way past just mentioning "Liberal/Conservative" or what I said and nothing happened..... that was my point entirely. ....
-
I used the word "conservative" in a sentence and got kicked off for a month ... Wow.... I was not even trashing or complementing anyone.. ... .In fact this what I said about have guns on campus ..and in my own college classroom... (guess I will get kicked off again) .. ----------------- Real conservatives (if they really are one) should be offended that we now have more government interference... I am disappointed ... let each school make their own decision... they are capable of that .. they understand the conditions on their campus better than someone in Austin (or Washington )... just pointing out the obvious... No I am not always wrong and neither is anyone here always right...

Dallas Carter people again ..... two of their players got A&M football in trouble when they had a summer "job" and did no work just collected money [ Slocum and staff had no knowledge of it but they got in trouble] and earlier it was Carter that defeated Permian then later had to forfeit their playoff games because of some reason and I think they had already won state... There was another Carter scandal that I can't remember the details on... It seems best to not touch their athletes with a 10 foot pole.....

DRC: Could 2018 be the year UNT has a player drafted?
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Oddly sometimes it is better to not be drafted in last two rounds .... players can then sign with which team they want to be on and where they feel like they have the best chance of making the team. That is the ultimate goal ... Make the team...... . [ not just my opinion, have heard/read that several times ] -
Agree Rudy ..... ( In the past I had a few in class) Those that are 65+ old may have some complaint.... but not younger blacks... When I graduated from HS (early 60's) they were prohibited from attending any SWC, SEC, or ACC college and many others... In fact when i was a grad student at TTU in 1968 there were no black athletes there or at many other Southern/Southwestern colleges ...But those times are gone.... Today .. they have little complaint coming... none now about being admitted etc. at a college. The civil rights bills of the late 60's and early 70's changed everything for racial minorities and women. Women also have jobs now that were barely or not available to them then. --- People who did not live through the 50's and even the 60's don't understand now things were then.... things have changed ... they have no real big complaints now.... Many other groups have had their bad times also ... If they had a German name or spoke German ( my family did) they were not trusted in WWI era and that is when many stopped speaking German.. Lots of Irish, Polish, etc. jokes out there from various eras.

LaLa Suspends 13 Players
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to StealthEagle84's topic in Mean Green Football
13 ... hmmmm .... Should have gotten more more involved or one less... bad luck... -
Terrible .... plus I don't really want free college in general.... We had a similar deal at a community college (for all county recent grads..not just one ethic group) and the result was awful .... We had people signing up for classes (since it was free) and then come a few weeks and disappear.... Not really what you want in a classroom and not that interested... but they signed up because it cost them zero. Didn't them long to figure out it wasn't HS 2.0. Students (except high achieving ones on scholarship) need to have some money on the table or they don't appreciate it and are less likely to try or do well. . They just took up space and cost the college money.

----When I was in HS (back in the dark ages) .. some guys would go about a block off campus and have a gay time dragging fags**... No there is nothing sexual about that comment .... Times and words change sometimes...... and sometimes where matters... (. local slang.) . I even witnessed a lot of "gay apparel" this past weekend at a prom... [fa-la-la-la-la] PS--- the dark ages mean years ago and nothing else. .... Don't make something out of a comment that isn't what was meant or even meant as an insult.. That is my belief "in Spades". ** they were having a good time and smoking cigarettes. [ British slang from WWII. that appeared in America after then.]

Duke seems as clean as any ...... Also an example of how success breeds success.. Success attracts better players.

Grant McCasland is New UNT Basketball Coach
SCREAMING EAGLE-66 replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Basketball
He was well liked and successful here at Midland (Tx) College. -
UNT has only one football player that made the NFL Hall of fame.... Joe Greene. He also was a first round and top five NFL pick also plus an All-American ... If an athletic statue goes up .. it should be him.... Most other Texas colleges have just one or two NFL HOF players also... Baylor has two, Aggies one, Tech has one, TCU maybe two, but SMU and Texas have several ... but most of those played a long time ago.... 50's and beyond. Pretty sure the numbers I quoted are correct... I looked that up several months ago. The surprise to me was Texas A&I [Now A&M Kingsville] They have 2 or 3...

Let us hope it gives the players (and fans) more confidence going forward... This could be a a very meaningful win.

The people on this board to really don't understand how well known Pat Boone was since his greatest years were the late 1950's to early 1960's and most people here can't remember those years (were not born) .... .. I remember Roy Orbison very well as well but Boone was much better known in that era and sold a lot more music and crossed over into acting as well. He was in a lot of movies.... Boone was the second largest artist of the late 1950s, behind only Elvis Presley but ahead of Ricky Nelson and The Platters, (according to below..) Rock and Roll started in Mid '50's ... before then was Perry Como, Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, type music.... Pat Boone was a transitional type musician... he fit the old style some and also rock and roll later. read this... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pat_Boone Boone still holds the Billboard record for spending 220 consecutive weeks [ more than 4 years] on the charts with one or more songs each week. .... Not mentioned that I saw in the article.. was that he also holds the record for the longest period between #1 songs with the last one being in 1997. Cher holds that record for a woman artist. . He later became a religious fanatic which turned a lot of people off .... but he absolutely has been the most famous musician from UNT. ---- Don Henley ... most people really don't know who he is ... the Eagles --- yes --- but not his name. . ----ask people to name the Beatles and most can somewhat... the Eagles ... nope ] How did this get into football section..??

Real conservatives (if they really are one) should offended that we now have more government interference... I am disappointed ... let each school make their own decision... they are capable of that .. they understand the conditions on their campus better than someone in Austin (or Washington )... just pointing out the obvious... No I am not always wrong and neither is anyone here always right .. That is an insulting and inaccurate statement... So are you telling me you are always right or maybe always wrong.?? .... If the administrators don't like insults.. then they shouldn't make them either.. I agree with the policy .. show respect to others..... some of us weren't and that is why some topics are now "locked". ... I am not the liberal as a couple try to picture me in fact more the opposite on most issues especially financial and on excessive government control. . [ note I rarely post anymore .. got tired of the insults and picturing me different that I am.. and putting words into my mouth that I don't believe ] Politics..??? . any decision a government body makes is political .... and this was just one of them. I mentioned no person or party ... PS: I guess I am been in violation the current policy then .. there have been times I have had a rifle or shotgun locked up in my car on the college campus parking lot.....remember it absolutely wasn't when I started to work here...(before 1995 ... pickups with guns exposed in racks were fairly common then .. I quit much earlier because of theft reasons. ) That has never been mentioned at any meeting I attended on campus as being illegal... Shocked.?? ... I am not the anti-gun person a couple of guys here try to picture me .. I own ranch-land and they were there for a valid reason. ..snakes is one. Carrying a gun around or having one in a dorm room is completely different that having one locked, hidden, and unloaded in a car... mostly a safety issue ... too many careless people drop them or mess with them and let them go of... too many of those unfortunate stories out there.. . They are not toys. I have had guns in my classroom several times ... and a law enforcement person had them .. no problem... but most of them don't even wear them to class... just their uniform.. ... Is all of this wrong again... I am never right he said....
-
You may be right .... I was not aware that the 1995 law applied to college campuses... just public schools I thought were gun free zones. ... .nothing changed where I am and know of people that had hunting rifles etc. in their cars/trucks... nothing was ever said to us about it... ....but until then each campus made it own rules. Maybe it did not apply to community colleges .. the new law doesn't apply to us until next year (2017).. So I am wrong as usual.??? insulting... and you are an administrator.. I thought yawl wanted that stopped... guess not. . Unfortunately not all of us know everything about everything as you do. I suppose you are an expert on Calculus too .. that is one of the subjects I teach at the college level.
-
True .. but let colleges make that decision too .... Politicians are just playing politics to get votes from the NRA types.... They are not on campus and do not understand the situation... My college campus opposes it also and they are banned ...but we will be forced into allowing them next year [community colleges ] No private college in the state allows them either that I know of... they made that decision. Until lately ... it was an issue left to each university ... and it still should be. ... [[ Just more government control..that isn't being conservative ]]

I find this whole Penn State very disgusting and J.Paterno also ... he had to know .. however at the end in an interview I saw of him ... he appeared to be in near "LALA" land... He seemed to be coach in name only ... he seemed rather soft in the head..... but earlier he likely knew and did nothing... melt the statue down....Why would they want that around as as reminder of what he really was.... He was way past "win at any cost" ..... it was criminal acts involving kids and they were harmed.... He was a sorry excuse for a man....
