  1. For most HS boys their only bright spot is the UNT dancers.

    Which HS do they attend?

How many D-1 games have they attended?

I've been taking this group of boys to NT games since they were in 5th grade. We've also been to games at Austin College, Mary Harden Baylor, Midwestern, UT, A&M, Baylor, SMU, TCU etc. Now they are normal boys, yeah, they do like the dancers but they are also pretty knowledgeable about college football.

And you know what else? They'll probably be back at the next home game.

  2. My high school senior son and 4 of his buddies went to the game but left at halftime. They said it was the worst excuse for a college football team they had ever seen. Their only bright spot of the game was the kettle corn.

  3. No, but we are getting ever so close. Rose and Bailey have started a number of games; Dodge tagged J.J. Johnson and Tomlinson as future starters last year; Feeley had one of the most impressive videos that I've seen; we may have a steal in McMillan; and Gill may be just a few pounds short of being a starter or major contributor. Add to that a couple of unknowns...Kaiser and the walkon from Era (whose name escapes me) and maybe we can consider moving Troy Franklin to defensive tackle where we are thinner.

The kid from Era's last name is Fortenberry, supposedly a monster at the 1A level. We'll see if he can translate that to D1 football.

  4. GREAT to have the good news about jason confirmed...now I can start looking for his stas on the Cleveland site once the season starts...Clevelend plays in dallas this year...we should get a big group of Mean Green fans and go to the game. What say you???? Who's in???

That is, of course, assuming Jason is playing for Cleveland at the time....if the team is smart...he will be!

GO JASON BALL #7 in your program, but #1 in the "good guy" book! :clapping: Saw him play in Colorado last year...he stayed on the field after the game for what seemed like forever signing autographs for the hoard of kids who descended upon the field after the game. They had to run him and the kids off the field..this all the while his wife (and my wife and I) were waiting for him after the game. The kid knows what's right and he does it....all the luck in the world to Jason ball. keep that "kicking" dream alive.

Great to hear about Jason! Speaking of kickers, whatever happened to Baz? Thought he would show up in someone's camp:NFL or AFL.

  5. Cedar Hill hires Mendoza

Ron Mendoza is the new defensive coordinator at Cedar Hill, head coach Joey McGuire confirmed.

"We're excited to get him and I think he's excited to be here,'' McGuire said.

Mendoza had great success as defensive coordinator at Southlake Carroll under Todd Dodge. He accompanied Dodge to UNT last year, but was fired after one season.

Mendoza replaces Carlos Lynn, who left Cedar Hill to become the head coach at Arlington Seguin. Lynn and McGuire had worked together for 10 years. When McGuire became head coach five years ago, he promoted Lynn to defensive coordinator.

"Losing Carlos was like losing my right hand,'' McGuire said. "But Ron will be a great fit.''

  6. I can honestly say I've never heard of that.

I posted this article back in November:

Franklin will be joined at UNT next fall by his older brother Tyler, a member of Celina’s 2005 state championship team who was forced to give up a college football career because of a bout with bone cancer which was diagnosed less than a week after he had signed with Texas A&M-Commerce.

Troy said Tyler, now a student at Oklahoma State, will transfer to UNT and become a student assistant with the Mean Green’s strength and conditioning program.
