The '04 team had incredible chemistry. Hate to see this season turn out like that one did. Also, lets make knee jerk reactions to the Padilla move not after Holland tosses a CGSO, but rather when Nippert takes his turn. Afterall, Holland was in the rotation before Vinny was given his walking papers.

I agree he was awesome today and I am thrilled he was. Nobody wants this team to win more than me. I just want to see him do this on a consistent basis. He could very well go 5 and give up 5 next time out. Young pitchers have to learn to harness their command. I will stick to my argument though because one awesome outing doesn't make the rotation better over the final 2 months. Great win. Hope the Yankees beat the Redsox.

If you feel good about having an unproven 22 and 23 year old in Holland and Hunter trying to help solidify a rotation when you are trying to catch the Angels and Redsox, whatever. Since you are so keen on looking up stats about Vinny, take a gander at Holland's ERA and walks to innings pitched ratio. I am not saying that the kids don't have upside, they do indeed. But to expect them to help get you over the top this season is pretty ridiculous. Also Padilla has 2 wins over the Angels and 1 over the Boston this season. So I might want him on the mound over Holland, Nippert, and Hunter. Oh yeah and he doesn't really have location problems like the kids have to fight through right at times. You and other Ranger fans tell yourselves that you are happy when a move like this is made, because JD and Marlon Byrd (who probably won't even be here next season) say it's a good move and paint Padilla as the bad guy. Watch baseball.

14-8 on a bad defensive club in '08 was a bad year??

T.O. wasn't asked to tackle Ravens runningbacks in the 4th quarter. I love how 'rah-rah' some folks here are about getting rid of talent just because JD says this is what this thing needed. I guess next season if things don't go swimmingly in the 1st half, the club will start to talk up 2011 and 2012 just like they did a few years ago with 2010. You gotta win now. Nothing is ever promised next season. Drives me up the wall when people drink the kool-aid and say, "we are playing with house money it's all about next year anayway." Vomit! Granted, Padilla wasn't the best teammate, but one would think an MLB club could but some BS aside and try to play hard every 5th day for a guy who more often than not gave you a chance to win. I have been in that clubhouse a number of times, and there never seemed to be a real 'division' surrounding Vinny. He pretty much kept to himslef and jokes with the latin players. Now I am sure that there were a number of things that were not seen by the media (missing meetings and the like). Texas has not sniffed the playoffs in 5 years and haven't been there in a decade. Getting rid of solid starting pitching isn't the answer. Period.

Other teams wouldn't go after him earlier this season because he would have been an expensive pickup of upward 8-9 million. He is much cheaper now, Texas is on the hook for the bulk of his salary if he lands eleswhere. And yes, the Cowboys might struggle w/out T.O. However that is a bit of an apples and oranges comparison. But for the sake of the argument, would you have cut T.O. in November of the team was a game back of the Giants in the division?

Be sure you utter that to yourself when Holland is struggling to find his command in the 4th inning. Just sayin'.

I know it sounds ridiculous, but in some ways I would rather have what Esteban German brought to the table yesterday. Granted he is no Ian at the plate, but he is patient, works the pitcher, and when he gets on base he is a real threat to run (ala Figgins). Not saying that Ian wouldn't help in some ways, but the offense needs a worker bee right now, not an upper-cutter. And yes, the good Josh Hamilton showing up would help out big time. He is showing some signs and having better at bats, but he is still not there in the confidence dept.

Slow down there Speed Racer! Holland as a starer : 10 starts. 2-5, and an ERA over 5. in 3 of his 10 starts he went at least 6 innings. I know he was good the other night, but he is still 22 years old and hasn't proven much yet at the big league level. If anything Tommy Hunter has proven more as a starter. Just tap those breaks a bit pal.

I completely agree. However if money was a roadblock then why did our braintrust work so hard on trying to find the right deal with Ricciardi and the Jays, when this thing could probably use a much cheaper bat. I get that Hicks Co. was trying to up the value of his club with a possible deal for Halladay, but in the end this club didn't improve. The team they are chasing in the WC just did with a pair of moves and one we might have been able to swing for Martinez. It's just frustrating as a fan to suffer for a full decade and then have their billion dollar owner plead poverty when Texas has a real chance to get back to the postseason THIS year. Not 2010. Also, how much better is this club next year because we kept a few key prospects? Smoak might not be ready by the beginning of next season. Oh and by the way can Borbon really reach the potential of being an everyday player. Really hope so. I bet JD does as well, but if the kinds don't get us any further than they are now there could be a real backlash down the road. Hicks has to sell this thing ASAP.

I have said it time and again. Tomorrow is never promised in baseball. 2010 is not a given and I wish that some ranger fans would realize that. This thing could quickly go back in the crapper next season. Roy Halladay is a badass. Period. End of story. 7 IP and 3 runs in a loss to the M's is nothing to cry about, please. Also JD has grown up and learned from the San Diego and Danks trades. Also, Hamilton was swapped for Volquez....and yeah that has pretty much been a wash so far.

Well, the Redsox got better today. We didn't, but I suppose everyone that is enfatuated with the kiddos is happy this afternoon. I like Holland as much as anyone, but I want everyone to think back to this day 3-4 years from now and we are all bitching that JD and Hicks Co. didn't pull the trigger on this deal when the club is still fighting to get past the Angels. I do hope that I am wrong about this, but I think that a large portion of the fanbase is convinced that all of these kids will live up to their expectations. If you look back at prize prospects throughout history, a small percentage actually live up to their billing. There might be a little less action and violence, but the characters are more dyanmic in my opinion. The Shield was greatness, but if you put them side by side I think that The Wire is a better show on a number of different levels. Yes, start with season 1- that helps big time.

The mavs have gotten more athletic with the Marion signing....now with Gooden they are more physical. I like that. Granted he is not a 5, but those don't grow on trees. I still think they could be 2nd round fodder next season, but it will be another entertaining season nonetheless.

I do know that getting rid of Blalock would piss off M Young, those two are very tight, but with Hank making nearly 3 million the rest of the way would be ideal for Hicks Co. to shed some salary. Jones on the other hand is getting paid 500K for the season, so he is a cheap option and a good influence - he is very well liked in the room, and with the avg. dipping down to .230's I doubt he might have that many takers....but was you said I would like to get some prospects for both this season.
