You have to be kidding. I am sure he is a great person and I am not questioning his effort, but I think we have a few new DB's in the program that will make everyone that liked 'hair' quickly forget about him. I remember when our secondary had a lot of skill and was a big part of the 'glory days' of the Belt. The kids they have brought in might get them back to that level. Granted Mendoza sucked, but it's not like Roman never strapped on a helmet before the OU game. Just because he had speed and tried really hard doesn't mean he passed the eyeball test.

He is La. Tech's problem now.

All the interviewer was lacking, was a little more stammering and asking if Riley remembered Beatle-mania.....

Favre Is A Jet
Green Guy Bass replied to UNTflyer's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
If an old player still thinks he can do it and the team he plays for believes in his abilities, then by all means.....play and do your best to block out the doubters. However, Favre should have handled this entire situation in a more private manner with the Packers. I was not a fly in the wall, but I do feel that he brought a lot of this crap upon himself. Montana made a so-so Chiefs team a contender, I am sure Favre can made a crappy Jets team respectable. As a football fan I like watching the most talented players on earth play the game at a high level. This is a good thing for the NFL. Sports -
This sucks. Evan is a great kid and would have been a factor in the offense for the next few years if he were healthy. The only good news is that he is not an O or D-lineman. With all of the bad news this off-season, the karma-train has to eventually bring something good to Denton.

Nnnnnnnoooooooooorrrrrtttthhhhhhhhh
Green Guy Bass replied to Green Grenade II's topic in Mean Green Football
Going down to defeat?? Sounds like something Borat would say. -
I think it's Brandon Akpunku. I am pretty sure he was a part of the '08 recruiting class. I had the chance to announce a few of his games last fall and he was a beast. A great tackler with good instincs and lateral speed. He wore #47, and we even called him AK-47 in the broadcast, so we wouldn't butcher his name. We could use about 5 more of him on the defensive side of the ball.

Sell Bricks In Walkways Around New Stadium, At
Green Guy Bass replied to Green Grenade II's topic in Mean Green Football
I second the brick idea. An easy and affordable way for the common NT fan to help 'build' a much needed stadium. I wish that Green Grenade actually had some decision making power....if so more might get done. Hell the bricks don't even have to be green, just stamp an alums name on one. That would be enough incentive for me. And many of us here would pay well over $25. Hopefully this could be a real way to generate some dollars. -
Point Spread Already Out...starts At 25
Green Guy Bass replied to SHOSS's topic in Mean Green Football
Keys to covering the spread for NT..... 1-Not turning the ball over once 2-Picking up at least 15 1st downs (which isn't out of the question) 3-Rain So far these are the only ones that I can even begin to think are somewhat realistic. I would be shocked if the spread is not over 30 before kickoff. Feel free to add some optimism. -
We need you back before fall practices begin. Take care of that wheel. Heal up and keep jammin'.

Is Todd Dodge Unt's Joe Paterno?
Green Guy Bass replied to meangreenbob's topic in Mean Green Football
I feel this is a dumb post. Joe Pa is at an elite program in a top conference and has been there forever. Dodge will leave after a great deal of success or after Riley graduates, which could very well happen (and if that were the case I would be very happy because that means the next few years are going to kick ass). The vast majority of coaches are just like you and me....looking for the best situation professionally and the most money. I think this is a dumb comparison. -
What Are The Realistic Expectations For This Season
Green Guy Bass replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I just want to see some decent consistency on both sides of the ball. For some reason everyone assumes the offense will score points, and with the added talent at WR and possibly OL I think it could be a very productive year w/ Vizza. There were times in '07 where the offense did struggle to find consistency from week to week. Everyone knows the defense has to be better. But again, even if they struggle I would like to see some signs to maybe feel good about things in 2009. With expectations so low 5 or 6 wins would be nice....and if the team improves every week, maybe it could be a 6 or 7 win season once we get into the Fun-Belt schedule. Let's just have our arrow pointing up next November....or December?? -
I wish half of you knuckle-heads could know what it's like to have your opinions and daily work scrutinized by the public....Like him or not Brett Vito does quality work. He goes out of his way to find out info on the programs at UNT and bring it to us in a timely manner. Does he ruffle the feathers of some of the coaches at times by going after what needs to be known? Yes. At least he is doing more than some "insiders", which shall not be named, with our local pro teams that do nothing but spin control and hold back information from the media when it is their responsibilty to divulge it.

Kids that spend 1 year in college don't come to UNT to play basketball - yet.....if JJ keeps digging up talent in recruiting and piling up 20 win seasons, a great player will eventually come along one would think. This is a school where players play and stay 4 years, or having a jc transfer play 1 or 2 - like most mid majors. Nothing wrong with having good character guys who value playing at this level and getting a solid education. That builds a quality program which has been pretty nice to experience over the past few years. I hope that we could get a player so good he would be one and done at UNT, but we are not quite there yet. And yes, Huggings is a great recruiter. A bit of a used car salesman, but a good recruiter.

Spring Green Vs. White Game Attendance Guess?
Green Guy Bass replied to trud1966's topic in Mean Green Football
3,169 according to SID Eric Capper -
I would gladly have paid the cost of tuition in 1976....just sayin'
-
That is kick-ass for you. If you research tuition costs across the nation there are anumber of states that have much higher in-state fees than Texas does. I am fully aware that our state govt. regulates tuition, but you have to admit that this is a widespread issue across our great land. Our federal government should pay more attention to the rising costs of education across the board. I am not here saying that UNT doesn't have great programs. My career has tremendously benefitted from them. And yes, I was accepted to TCU and they indeed do have higher standards on the whole (and much nicer campus). And I can't disagree with you on it's great location in the DFW area. That is a huge reason to attend NT. But to be up in arms (as some are on this thread) about the powers that be promoting the affordability is kind of dumb in my honest opinion. Like it or not that is one of the biggest positives about our alma mater. A good business ofetn plays to their strengths and top selling points. We all forget that any University is a money making venture for someone. I can't help but think if the football team had a better showing over the last few years and a new stadium was being thrown up as I type, this would not be that big of a hot-button issue on the message board.
-
People that can afford TCU go to TCU, it is a private school with higher academic standards. Like it or not mommy, daddy, or the single student who has to go into 10-20 years of debt don't really give a damn about this school pride you are beating your chest over. I (as an alum who saw his tuition almost triple by the time he graduated) don't really have a problem with this as a selling point. Quck question Rick....were you saddled with nearly 20 grand in school debt when you picked up your diploma?? I am guessing you weren't.....Maybe the bigger problem is the sky-rocketing tuition costs across the nation that not shockingly took place during our current Presidential administration. Should we sell the other great aspects of our institute? Absolutely. But when it comes right down to it cost is almost always the biggest factor in gaining one's education. Especially these days.

Do We Need Another Qb For Insurance?
Green Guy Bass replied to DeepGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
I giggle a little knowing that Kinnie is walking away from the Tobacco road con-man and the horns. Mack Brown insists on running the same offense that VY thrived in, when he has a QB in McCoy that isn't suited for it. Then he has a more physical runner in Kinnie and he walks away. That gives me the warm fuzzies inside. And just to add to the above argument - Kinnie is a BCS conf. quarterback, and should go to a big school that is actually televised on Saturdays. I wouldn't mind having him here, but he is so talented it would create a bigger log-jam than we already have. We already have depth at the position. His name is Riley Dodge. -

So was I the only one wishing failure on UTA?

They should have gone with "White Rabbits" and have a real tripped out Jefferson Airplane like fight song. Now that would be imposing as teams rolled into Jonesboro.

Thanks for the link. Q is a great person, a great player, and has always handled himself with class. He might not play past the college level, but I am proud to have him represent our school the way he has over the past 4 years both on and off the court. Quality individuals makes for a quality program. Just a small sample of what makes UNT great. Keep things rolling and beat WKU!

I appreciate CbL digging up some of my genius from the past to show off my big sports-brain(just kidding). I am happy that my wish came true. Now that it's a matter of gameday execution to help perpetuate the buzz of TD's program and get more talented kids on board to play in an offense that can be a blast to play and watch. Can't wait to see what year 2 of Dodgeball brings. Should be fun. As for that spare that does Tickers in the afternoon.....I know the guy....and he doesn't know a damn thing about sports.
