Good to see optimism from you, Flyer. By the way good work on the vote. However, I don't think a shiny new stadium has a bigger impact on a recruit like 0-12 and a traditionally bad conferece. Also, if you want to be the next S. Florida, you will have to go after some thugs, will Dodge even do that?

I am very happy that the students did their part to get us a new stadium, now the administration needs tp do their part to follow through. However, this thing is still firmly in the ditch at 0-7 and there are no real signs of improvement. The news of the week makes this season one of overall progress, but this team totally sucks in every facet of the game. Until the new stadium is built what on earth are we going to do to distract us from the worst football team in the country? Nothing really comes to mind and sadly I see no reason to burn a Saturday at Fouts, or even tune into the MGRN when we are on the road. I suppose we can all get jazzed about our basketball team now. So very beaten down right now.

Solid post. The administration does need to belly up to the table and help get things done.

It Is Time To Begin The Next Coach Discussion
Green Guy Bass replied to shaft's topic in Mean Green Football
I think Todd really needs to swallow some of his pride, and tweak his offensive system. What might have worked at the HS level is not in D1 NCAA football. Defensive coordinators can and often do eat it for lunch. Until he utilizies a tight end and has some decent run packages where....oh...I dunno....the QB takes a snap from under center and we have more than one back in the backfield at times, then he will never have his offense truly thrive at this level. Way too one dimensional right now. I also question his ability to mesh with the other coaches on his staff at this point. You can give him the rest of the season and another recruiting class, but if this thing goes winless (which is a very real possibility) there is no excuse to let him get to conference action next season if we go winless yet again in OOC play. Stadium vote or no stadium vote. -

I know it. Which is worse....the national economy or the defense? -

Have the U.S. government bail out the defense. -
I would rather hear your honest opinion quite frankly. We all understand you are the AD and you have to say the right thing, but it was refreshing to hear some honesty from the top. You didn't say anything that we aren't already thinking.

I agree with every word in this post.

Yes Gmg Members Can Complain About Coaches, Players
Green Guy Bass replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
And I think it's time our players and coaches start supporting the fans by doing the right things on the field, and not constantly embarrassing the fan base. As far as the inherited MESS goes.....a better coach would make some chicken salad if you get my drift. Personally I think people need to stop cutting Dodge so much slack and coming up with excuses for his failures. -
We Need To Bring Back The Tortillas
Green Guy Bass replied to KingDL1's topic in Mean Green Football
I would much prefer some effort and execution from our football team. Also, the tortilla thing always seemed like a dumb bit. I could be wrong, but I think that was a Texas Tech thing. Not to mention all of the hungry people in 3rd world countries. Wasting food seems a little irresponsible. -
The people that are venting and ranting about the team and their God-awful play really do care. Negative posts are a way for all of us to cope with what we have to deal with every Saturday. Pointing out the problems with a team, discussing them, and trying to find solutions is half the allure of being a sports fan. Tell me Sports Radio, Magazines, Newspapers, Fan message boards, or ESPN would still be as successful if the emotion and frustrations were not a part of the overall equation. I don't think a single thing written on this board is going to sway a vote either way. The students will do what they will, and the program will move forward best it can. Being upset is part of supporting the program believe it or not. It's part of being a fan. If we have to invest time and emotion in this thing, the least we can do is allow us as a fanbase to air our frustrations.

Maybe things can turn around for us after congress bails us out....wait.

I cannot imagine a D1 NCAA team as bad as we are. I could probably go the rest of my life and not see anything this bad on a football field. I am going to just vent a little. I don't care if you read it or respond, but I have to get these thoughts out of my head because I want to sleep tonight. Defense - Just terrible. I know I am not breaking any news here, but GOOD GOD!!! I have never seen a unit that lacked as much confidence as this one. I thought the coaches emphasized tackling more this week at practice?? Our guys want to do nothing but arm tackle, and are constantly out of position. Our secondary does not react and fly to the ball, it's as if the majority of our defense is spectating at times. Any team can do anything they want on this group. Vomit. Special teams - More suck. Knott is not that great. Our coverage team was better tonight, but still not that impressive. Oh yeah, and any time you allow a blocked punt, you lose. It's science. Offense - 428 yards and 10 points. Todd Dodge's system is not a college offense. Oh yeah sure....you can point at Mizzou and Florida and other schools that run it. But guess what, they can run the ball. They utilize a TE. They have the offensive line capable of protecting their QB's so he can set his feet. Vizza rarely had anytime tonight to set up and throw, always moving in the pocket and always on the run. He is a tough SOB, but we really need to have some offensive sets that we can run out of on a consistent basis and not have our QB get his ass completely kicked every game. I know Dodge is a spread guy, but WHY ON EARTH DO WE NOT HAVE A FEW FORMATIONS WHERE WE GO UNDER CENTER??? WE are a D1 College f---ing football team. Utterly ridiculous, especially since we have a little bit of talnet and speed at RB. And Dodge COMPLETELY abandons the run game for stretches of the game, just unreal. Play calling and overall scheme just flat out sucks and there is no excuse for that. I will go ahead and come out and say it....Dickey's offense was better that this one. Thought I would never utter those words. I also though that we would never go winless in a season, but get ready folks. I was very impressed with Fitzgerald and somewhat with Lott. They were pretty good. But it's like Emmitt Smith once so eloquently said, "We had some diamonds, and we had some poo-poo. And you mix the diamonds in with the poo poo, then it all look like poo poo." No kidding, he really said that. What the hell else is there to say?? I am sure there is some absurd excuse for football that happened tonight somewhere on this Green Earth, but I have not doubt in my mind the worst was in Denton, Texas in the middle of a track. I know that you have to give coaches and managers a reasonable amount of time before they get the axe, but a week or two more of this is completely and totally unacceptable in every way. If I were RV I would have canned him immediately after his postgame interview with Jub, if in fact he did one tonight after that abortion. Personally, I think the only positive thing that happend tonight was not spending the precious gas money to travel down I-35 to see that display of complete ineptitude. I will stop ranting now....felt good to get that out. I hope FLYER doesn't wet the bed because I posted the Truth and a student might happen to read it. No funeral.

Nt Running Out Of Wr's, Would You Believe Nt
Green Guy Bass replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
Sporty Sports. I like you am excited to see Breece get a crack. I would also like to see Alex Lott catch some passes from the slot, heck, maybe he can convince his talented younger brother from Plano to join him here in the future. In fact, if you can see Plano play in person this season I highly suggest it. As far as Dibrell goes, I understand wanting to make a change in life. The timing is bad and some fans are turning on him for walking away when he did. However, I think it's a little knee jerk to turn on a good kid without knowing all the facts - just my opinion. Wow now I am rambling a bit too. Yes, run it. -

I couldn't agree more. Makes us really look high schoolish with no run package with the QB under center. -
Nt Running Out Of Wr's, Would You Believe Nt
Green Guy Bass replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
Maybe we can run the ball more. maybe we can keep the other offense off the field a little longer. Maybe we can give our defense a chance to rest between series. I know we run the spread, but can we please lean on a few backs that have shown a little promise in Cam and Lance? Whenever you run it, you can open up the passing game no matter the offensive system. Just a thought. -
When you run the ball, you don't get beat as badly as we do.

The Current Similarities Between 2001 And 2008
Green Guy Bass replied to UNT_playmaker's topic in Mean Green Football
I see the initial comparison, as far as adversity the program faces and a similar record. However, the current incarnation of Mean green football does not have Booger Kennedy, 3 great linebackers, a secondary that could tackle in the open field and cover a receiver on a given 3rd down. I want to beleive that Dodge's group can come together and play INSPIRED football, but I just don't see it, and to be honest to you I think that begins with TD. Dickey's '01 bunch had a group of legitimate ON THE FIELD leaders. The '08 team has a severe deficiency in that department. The old Mean Green squad were a nastier bunch, while this team looks incredibly soft in almost every aspect. The only good thing about our offense is the QB and maybe a few WR's, but there is not enough talent up front to make them a real threat to even and average defense. Our old offense had an edge, and it didn't matter that we ran it 80% of the time. Now we throw it all the time, have a spread offense that is en vouge, yet the offense still struggles for an identity. I am praying that changes soon. The '01 defense would laugh at what ever the hell we are trotting out there now. You may say I have good ol' day syndrome, but the eyeball test tells me that the team 7 years ago was a whole hell of a lot more talented. I hope you are right, but I am afraid you are hoping that lightning will strike twice, and I fear that is not possible under the current circumstances.
