  1. One could make the argument that nobody has benefitted more from the steroid era more that Rudy. I attended tonights game and just got in. We had seats 25 rows behind home plate, and I was miserable the entire time. That should not be. I fear 3rd place before the break. Now that would be a Wolvorine Dura-shock to the pills.
  2. They have 3 with the Angels beginning tomorrow. Hate to call a series at the beginning of July huge, but this series could dictate a tone heading toward the break. At least we have interesting baseball heading into the same month that Cowboys camp gets up and flying...which is nice.
  3. They really need a sweep this weekend. I know that sounds greedy, but the Pads are the worst offense in baseball, and their pitching is kinda crappy too. Need some momentum heading into the Halos series.
  4. The most frustrating thing here is that there has been a glaring issue at 1stbase for over a month now, and because of the financial hell that old Hicks Co. is in at the moment the club cannot spenda ny money and probably can't go over 1-2 million in adding salary with a possible trade for a Nick Johnson, Brad Hawpe, Aubrey Huff, and the like. JD and Nolan are handcuffed because of this and a 4.5 game lead has evaporated in 2 weeks. You think this kind of crap happens in NY, Boston, Chicago, St. Louis, LA, or any other legit baseball town? Hell no. The bottom line is way more important that winning to Hicks these days. he tried to spend dollars in the early part of this decade, and it bit him in the ass because he had poor baseball people in high places within the organization. Now there are some decent baseball people, and his old insecurites are cutting their legs off. So dmned frustrating. Also, I don't want anyone here to preach 2010 and stay the course, because you know what?? Tomorrow is never ever promised in sports. You do everything you can to win right now. Hell look at the Diamondbacks. They got to the NLCS 2 years ago with a bunch of great prospects, but where are they now?? Oh yeah, dead last in the NL west, the same place our favorite team could very well be in in 2010. I like our prospects as much as anyone, but when you don't have the sack or the respect for your fans to note make a move when things are in a free fall is f'ing ridiculous. You can't sell this thing soon enough Mr. Hicks.
  5. That game was not enjoyable. How many runners can this team leave in scoring position? Don't even have the energy really to gripe about it.
  6. They beat the Yankees 7-3 on 5/26. 14-1 win over the A's on May 30th. Before that a 10 run outburst over the Angels at home on May 15th. The bats are not what they have been in years past, but at least the pitching and defense is better, hopefully they can figure some things out by the Bay this weekend. They need to win this series, but that Ballpark is not condusive to their style of offense.
  7. gracias my friend. We have another one tonight to close down the homestand.
  8. Matty Harrison comes back from the DL tonight to face the dis-Astros, probably will only go 5 or 6 if things go well. I am never one to say the Rangers have to sweep a series, but I would be a little dissapointed if they don't close out this homestand without one. I know that is jumping the gun, but some momentum on a winnable roadtrip would be great with the Halos on their heels. Shameless plug time: Tonight on Diamondtalk we will obviously break down the game, but we will also have a Pudge lovefest because he is breaking the all-time games caught record tonight passing the origional Pudge : Carloton Fisk with game #2,227. Also, we are hearing trade rumors involving your favorite club. If you care tune in and call in. I am also taking some pleasure in the fact this is a thread in the non-sports forum that doesn't smack of contention and idiocy.
  9. I don't think the term 'conservative' is seen as a dirty word by most of the liberals here. Personally I understand the principle meaing of the word, just like I understand the meaning of liberal. Just about everyone here does. There is not one of us who doesn't have both kinds of ideas about certain things, even though FF-Rick really tries to make it seem that he does. The vocal and pissed off right-wingers in this place have villanized the term 'liberal' in recent weeks. That is frustrating because we are all Americans with slightly different ideas, and it is probably shocking to see how big of a percent of issues we probably all agree upon. Do I get pissed off and voice my opinion at times when I hear some spewing hateful things, views I vehemently oppose, or misguided nonsense? Sure. But sometimes we should all look up and realize that we are all on the same team. Also I think it would help that some of here would not post outrageously biased articles from uber-conservative or crazy left leaning blogs and websites. That is just me, I am sure it makes some feel better to do it, and it makes the life-drain that is most of these discussions continue so we can have some content. So very beaten down by everything I read here these days outside of Ranger talk.
  10. Alright folks. The Rangers are facing a lefty tonight with an ERA under 3. Millwood goes for the good which is good. Hopefully he will get some runs support, but if not the west lead will continue to shrink(has no faith in Giants). If the bats stay cold I do urge you to tune in and call into Diamondtlak tonight after the game. We are going to try and fix a few things with the offense, and start looking at different lineups that the old school brutha could possibly use. We would love to hear from some of you.
  11. Not that pleased because the offense is in such a bad way at the moment. The only real dissapointment over the stretch was the Jays series. Really should have done better against some fair to spare pitching. However, with 2/5's of the rotation on the DL along with the closer essentially and Josh out for 4-6 weeks, things could have been a hell of a lot worse. They have series against HOU/SF/ARZ/and SD before wrapping up the month with the Halos. If they surrender their lead before the Angels series I will be dissapointed, but not totally shocked because the Angels are getting their wheels back on. If Texas is going to have a 22 and 23 year old in the rotation the rest of the way, we can't realistically expect this team to put distance between themselves and an Angels club that has owned this division in recent years, even in they are a weaker version. Also, may we thank our lucky stars that nobody claimed Padilla a few weeks back. I doubt if anyone would want to take the rest of his salary on at this point of the season, but it would have really sucked if they did. Today's off day couldn't come at a better time. Maybe a day at Hurricane Harbor, excuse me Wet and Wild, can help Kinsler and company figure out what the hell is going wrong at the dish. Sports.
  12. I think heat and humdity go hand in hand here in N. Texas. Like 97and03 said, the ball carries more when it gets really hot at this park. That is my biggest concern.
  13. I think it's funny that you are open to European ideas about how to run a sports franchise, but relatively shut off to their practice of health-care. Just sayin'. And just to make peace Pujols went deep again. High five.
  14. It is going to be a while like this offensively for a while I fear, but I do love Byrd getting AB's everyday. I just hope that the Pitching and defense can steer the ship as well as they have as the temps near triple digits. Great win tonight though. Beating the best team in baseball (record-wise) says a lot about the make-up of this team after a very shaky series against Toronto. Diamondtalk is a lot of fun right now. I hope many of you are tuning in, a lot of fun to discuss good baseball. Lets just hope that Feldman or Wonderboy can have a good showing this weekend and they can make it a series win. Good times.
  15. The Rangers theme for the next few days: Patience I do like the raw talent of the young arms they picked up in the draft. They are all at least 3-4 years away. Patience. The Rangers offense, please God have some patience at the dish tonight and for the rest of the homestand. Making Brian Tallet look like a world beater is ridiculous. This team can't draw walks, and with no J-Ham for a month or two they can't afford to be too aggressive. Patience at the plate. 3 games up on the Angels, too close for comfort. It's only June 10th. Patience fans. Hopefully Millwood can stop the bleeding tonight.....oh before I forget, does anyone else here like the Grilli signing? I would rather have him over Madrigal, Benson, and maybe after a few more clean outings Jason Jennings.
  16. Never said I didn't attack anyone while giving my opinion, but I don't want it to be ignored that FireFightingJesus does the same crap. Just because he is a conservative superhero with some of you, doesn't make him immune.
  17. If by enforcing rules, you mean no personal attacks....then you need to quit calling every liberal a socialist.
  18. I guess stuff like this should be ignored, right?
  19. I think America is in pretty good shape. Like I posted earlier in this thread. The sky is not falling. Chill out. I am a proud American, and just because Obama is not telling the middle east that we are going to nuke them into oblivion in the name of Jesus doesn't mean we are losing face. If anything we are gaining more respect around the world(God forbid right?). The economy will pick up. You will still be able have a lavish Thanksgiving with your family every year, and spend too much at Christmas. America is a pretty fucking amazing place, and for you and those like you to pretend you have all of the answers about the future is pretty ignorant in my honest tax-paying opinion. Socialism will never replace capitalism in our consumer based society and you know it. never once did anyone in our goverment coem out and say we need to become a socialist country. That is simply a catch phrase that was drummed up last fall by the republicans in the McCain camp. It didn't work. Quit the scare tactics, and please realize that we are maturing as a nation and have to adapt to the global climate we live in, this isn't post WW2 America anymore, and why on earth do so many think we will ever, or ever want to get back to that point. Also I probably read more than most that post here and just because I tilt to the left doesn't mean I don't research facts and are simply follow what the idiot box tells me. The smugness you have as a conservative f'ing sickens me. Go watch more Glen Beck and get ready for Sunday service. You sir give conservatives a bad name. The republicans used to be the party of ideas and business, but now they are made up of jack-wads like yourself that can't come to terms that the world around you is changing, and hopefully for the better. The economy is not doing well for a number of reasons - several outside of anything that the past 2 presidents have done while in office and you know it. If Bush were still president there is a pretty good chance the same crap would be happening, and you would champion the 'C' student at Yale for trying to sace Apple pie and Pickup trucks. I am sick of the cheerleading on both sides. We dealt with 8 years of GW and lived to tell about it. We will live with probably 8 more of Obama and be fine. Just because you didn't vote for the guy doesn't mean American life is going to hell. If you are asking for the check that is on you. I am staying and raising my children in the best God-damned country on this screwed up globe. Go ahead and reply and call me a young wet-behind the ears liberal who is preaching secular nonsense. Don't really give two s's what you have to say.
