  1. I have been on mlbtraderumors.com constantly and I am not see much of substance involving the Rangers. I am up for a GMG.com night at the Temple on Sunday Aug. 2nd....let me know if anyone else wants to meet up and we could get together and nerd out.
  2. I am flabbergasted that nobody has yet to mention the greatest show in the history of TV - The Wire.
  3. Quoner is watching the Rangers closely. The BA and OBP are unacceptable for a leadoff man. Ian should be hitting 4th or 5th at the moment, but since Wash refuses to move him maybe then he should try to take the ball the other way once in a while, and draw a walk.....but at least he is not in as bad shape as J-Ham.
  4. Rick isn't watching the Rangers that closely then.
  5. This will be a bullpen game with Nippert, Eyre, and Grilli getting the bulk of the work tonight no matter what. I would imagine O'day and CJ are not available after 3 straight days of work. Also, Guardado is suffering from the flu as well. Should be an interesting night. Tune in to D-talk after the game.
  6. I get that, (half of my family is catholic) I just don't get why someone would chalk that up as a an upside of the religion.
  7. I am announcing the game again this season, as much as I would LOVE to call a game at the new stadium....there would be something so cool about doing the game at my University. Denton is a 15-20 minute drive for both of those schools, that seem like it would be an easy choice.
  8. No. Didn't get to do any pbp for my alma mater while he was in school. But I do know that he got jerked around a bit by the HC after fighting back for almost a full year after he tore up his knee. Halpin played his kid instead of the senior who was a better overall QB, and had something to play for in a scholarship. I thought that was a really crappy thing for Halpin to do, but as one who played under him as a Skeeter wasn't shocked by that. I just hope that Luke plays well after week 1. His mom and dad are good people, and it's always good to see a Skeeter succeed.
  9. His mother taught me in 8th grade. I think he was screwed over a bit by Halpin during his senior season. That is a big reason oregon pulled back their offer. Hope he plays well at BSU.
  10. I interviewed Atterberry before last year's Lewisville / Marcus game at TX stadium. I was impressed with him as an 18 year old. He seems sharp and has a good leg. I did my best to gush about NT and Denton. Glad he signed on, hope he falls in line with a decent tradition of kickers and punters.
  11. Someone should give you a television show being that dreamy.
  12. I am having a hard time thinking that Hicks Co. is going to add a significant salary the rest of the way this season, no matter how great Halladay is. That is why I hate Hicks so f'ing much. This crap would not fly in a real baseball market like NY, StL, Chicago, and LA....Pleading poverty when you are in the middle of the playoff race is oh so weak. I know that JD and Nolan are saying they will look at anything that will make the club better, then take it to Hicks. I do hope there is a few extra million sitting around the 41 million dollar manor that Tom lives in to get a top of the rotation type starter. However, when Hicks says before the season that the 2010 payroll will be 20-25% lower than '09, I have a hard time believing that he would make a Halladay type move. Now, if he has a buyer in place that is alright with inflating the payroll next season, then that could be a different story. Problem is the sale of the team could stretch out over into next season. Personally I would give Toronto a load of good prospects for a guy that can make you a title contender. I know that the organization has stuck to their plan and have built a great system, but what is a deep farm system if you can't use that as an asset to make your big roster better? I know a lot of people who are preaching stand pat and wait for the magical season of 2010....but I got news for ya pal....nothing in baseball is promised, an injury or 3 could completely de-rail a season and to assume that everything will be peaches and herb next season is just naive. So yeah, I would love Doc Halladay, but I have a hard time imagining that Hicksy would do something good for the ranger fan. Now lets go take 3 of 4 before the break....and UNT90 needs to stay awake....brew some coffee because this will be a fun series.
  13. ^ I love it. Jub does a fantastic job and has a deep passion for UNT athletics. If there was ever a family man that we can all admire it's Georgie. I can't even begin to grasp why someone who claims to be a NT fan would want George out as our play by play voice. Just nuts.
  14. 8-5. Back in 1st. Baseball is a funny game and if you watched it tonight then you know why. Texas scored 6 in the 5th, all with 2 outs. if MY doesn't bust-ass down the line for an IF single, then there is a chance Lackey throws another few innings and they probably lose. Instead you get the BEST 2 out rally of the season so far. Also, Wonderboy is back in the pen. 17 of 19 pitches tonight were strikes in 2 great innings. If Salty doesn't drop an easy pop then he is tagged with no runs. Again, the great game is quirky like that. Josh and Hank 3 hits apiece. Nice. Oh and by the way I haven't noticed any plays not being made at 1stbase since Davis was sent to AAA (maybe the dumbest argument for those who though Davis should stay in the bigs). But give davis credit, from what I understand he was a homer shy of the cycle tonight for OKC, and I don't believe he struck out. Again nice. Now we sit back for the next 19 hours and wonder how Padilla will be after being pushed back because of a sore shoulder. I have a snealing suspicion we will see the good Vinny in the finale. Doesn't mean they will win, but i expect him to battle a patient lineup and fire a decent 6 innings. Man I like good baseball.
  15. Who else here secretly loves Chone Figgins?
  16. About Time.....by the way....If you would like to hear his postgame comments after hearing the news shoot me a PM and I can email it to you. Go Rangers.
  17. It is about that time in the season to stop doubting the starting pitching as a whole. A month can be an anomaly. 3 plus months of solid starting pitching should now be considered the norm. We all need to accept the fact that the rotation is probably not going to add an arm at the deadline because Hicks Co. is broke. I know the rotation isn't chalked full of household names or guys you necessarily would draft on your fantasy squad, but they are getting things done. Even if they are under 24 years of age. This team IS a contender and we all need to buckle up for one Helluva fun summer. BTW if you have some free time today there is a chance Tommy Hunter will make an appearance today on Ticket Sports Saturday from 3-6 if you care.
  18. Could not agree more. Fantastic records. Happy Birthday America!
  19. I was lucky enough to learn play by play from Bill at NT. He is a real mentor to myself and so many others to this very day. That is great that you had a chance to work with him in Round Rock. He is one of the best in the business.
  20. RANGERS RECALL OF JULIO BORBON FROM TRIPLE-A OKLAHOMA CITY; OPTION RHP WILLIE EYRE Arlington, Texas – The Texas Rangers announced prior to tonight’s game that the club has recalled outfielder Julio Borbon (#29) from Triple-A Oklahoma City. To make room on the roster for Borbon (pronounced boar-BONE), the club has optioned right-handed pitcher Willie Eyre to Oklahoma City. Borbon is in the starting lineup tonight, looking to make his major league debut in the series opener against the Angels. Borbon, 23, has spent the entire season with the RedHawks, batting .298 (90-302) with 2 home runs, 11 doubles, 5 triples, and 28 RBI over 71 games in his first action at the Triple-A level. He has 19 stolen bases in 23 attempts. Borbon bats and throws from the left side, and he has a .323 (32-99) average in June to raise his season figure from .286 to .298. He has a .312 average against right-handed pitchers in the Pacific Coast League. Borbon has played primarily center field for Oklahoma City, and has also seen action in left field. He hit a home run in his final Oklahoma City at-bat last night in Nashville, with the solo long ball coming off former Ranger Wes Littleton. A supplemental first round selection (35th overall) by Texas in the 2007 June draft, Borbon was in major league spring training for a second consecutive year in 2009, appearing in 15 ‘A’ games. He was drafted out of the University of Tennessee, where he was on a club that went to the College World Series in 2005. Borbon would be the second player out of the Rangers’ 2007 Draft to appear in the major leagues, joining fellow supplemental first round selection Tommy Hunter, who posted a quality start in last night’s loss for the Rangers. Eyre tossed 1.0 scoreless inning on Friday vs. San Diego in his only appearance after being activated from the disabled list earlier that day. He has a 5.06 ERA (3 ER/5.1 IP) in 4 overall relief appearances for Texas this season. He was on the disabled list from April 23-June 25 with a right groin strain. After today’s moves, the Rangers still have a full 40-man roster. – RANGERS –
  21. That theory cannot be proven. But it wouldn't shock me.
