Was Morris the Wrong Hire? (Spoiler.. We Don't Know)
vpackrats replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
You give an example of a CEO needing to be run out in 10 months. Fair enough. But you're wanting to give this guy 2 games (aka 2 weeks)?! Um, OK. Finally, for all the people ready to fire our coach because we're 0-2 with 2 bad losses let me leave you with this .... it's a good thing the internet hadn't been invented yet in 1973. Did you know Hayden Fry started out 0-2 including an embarrassing 31-7 loss to UTA on Opening Day. UTA!! Now I'm NOT saying Eric Morris is going to turn out like Hayden Fry. However, I WOULD put a $100,000 bet in Vegas that if this message board was around in 1973 it would be filled with "Fire Hayden Fry" threads, "What the Hell is he DOING?!" and my personal favorite "The North Texas offense has only scored 10 points in 2 games against UTA and Memphis. WTF?!? This OC has got to go ... and Fry with him". C'mon now... you know it's true. 🙂 -

Put in grass and the field will look fantastic all the time. And have a better home-field advantage to boot since grass fields are pretty rare these days. Call me old school but grass is better ... especially for the players.

Yeah, we need to take the next step and I think the admin really blew it by not bringing in Nick Saban or Kirby Smart to fix things. As far as the defense, why did we not at least attempt to get Dan Quinn in here? Look how much success he's had with the Cowboys! In a related note, why has my posting gone down by significant amounts? Because the board has pretty much become an asswhip (unless we win the NIT). The same people that predict 9-3 and 10-2 records in the other thread wanna fire coaches after one game. Really?! Yes, today sucked. I was there and it was really bad. But, overreact much? Now if the same crap happens against FIU and La Tech, then yes I will have flashbacks to Ron Mendoza. Now if you'll excuse me I need to call the Texas Hammer or the Law Shark for a case of extreme whiplash from reading these different threads.

North Texas Adds 6 Games for Future
vpackrats replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
As a long time GMG member, getting caught up on this thread made me chuckle a little bit. Posts from 10-15 years ago -- that damn RV! He's sticking us with body bag games now and into the future. Alabama, Clemson, Texas, Georgia, Florida, etc, etc. We need easy winnable games against G5's and the occasional FCS school to look good. Posts now -- that damn WB and Moseley. They've stuck us with a lot of games against G5's and an FCS school every year. We need to schedule big schools like Alabama, Clemson, Texas, Georgia, Florida, etc, etc to put us on the map! -
Wyoming, North Texas add two games to future football series
vpackrats replied to meangreen11's topic in Mean Green Football
... and somewhere a poster on the Wyoming message board named "Uncle Oliver" is posting "North Texas sure will not bring any fans to our stadium. I feel like we need to get a little more demanding in our expectations".- 49 replies

NIT Note - Utah Valley Coach takes the Cal Job
vpackrats replied to El Paso Eagle's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I think GMG_Dallas is in the first stage of the 5 stages of grief -- denial. Once it becomes official in the the next few days, we might start seeing some "anger" posts from him (Stage 2) . It will be OK y'all. Ross Hodge is a capable replacement and Grant will go down a legend at UNT just like Hayden Fry. -
I know tonight's results may change this, but this updated NIT bracktology has us a #1 seed now. That's pretty cool! NIT Bracketology – The Barking Crow

Who knew this topic would end up being 50% posts about whether or not to fire our most successful coach in our most successful sport? I guess with Seth being gone, we now have a need to fire someone else. I swear, we have a lot of Ricky Bobby's on this board -- "if you're not first, you're last". Just waiting on someone to start a "Let's fire all the coaches" thread.

Austin Aune entering the NFL Draft
vpackrats replied to Coach Andy Mac's topic in Mean Green Football
Trivia time -- which QB sounds pretty good to you? Candidate A -- 2406 yards passing 19 TD's 10 INT's Candidate B -- 3309 yards passing 32 TD's 13 INT's Candidate C -- 3306 yards passing 31 TD's 9 INT's Candidate D -- 2642 yards passing 17 TD's 9 INT's ---------------------------------------------------------- OK, so most of you are probably going with candidates B & C and thinking candidates A & D are "weak sauce". And, the envelope please .... Candidate A is the great Will Levis from Kentucky, listed as a top 3 QB by both Mel Kiper and Todd McShay for the upcoming NFL draft. Candidate D is Spencer Sanders from Oklahoma State, who is hitting the transfer portal and I know some of y'all are very excited to get this Denton Ryan grad back in his hometown. Candidate B is Austin Aune and Candidate C is Tanner Mordecai from SMU. What's my point? Well, for starters, how many SMU fans have spent their entire fall doing insane rants on the message board almost each and every game about how their QB sucks? Some of the posters on here seemed so upset with Aune I'm surprised they didn't threaten to jump from the top of the Eagle Wing. Second of all, Sanders vs Aune? 11 passes less thrown by Sanders than Aune // 15 less TD's for Sanders // just a 0.9% difference in completion percentage between the 2. So, why am I posting this? Do I think Aune will play in the NFL? Probably not, although I hope I'm wrong. I'm posting this because our guy finished 17th in the NCAA for yards thrown, 8TH in TD's thrown and some of y'all act like we had an Andrew McNulty / Josh Greer combo at QB this year. Be thankful for what you have ... you may miss it when it's gone. -
Wish we'd go back to seeing people's + / - ratings. Kinda helped with rooting out the trolls and stuff. haha

This. 100%. My time on GMG has dropped 60% - 70% because of the Chicken Littles on this board. We're in the CUSA championship game for the 2nd time ever and 90% of this board if they're being honest didn't have this team with a winning record at the beginning of the year. 4-8, 3-9, 5-7 if we're lucky, etc. But instead of enjoying a surprisingly good season, I feel like I'm taking a time warp to the Todd Dodge days, McCarney with Andrew McNulty, etc. I stayed on the board and commented back then cuz bitching was clearly deserved. And I'm not saying constructive criticism isn't warranted here, but dangit, we have got to be the bitchiest fan base that made it to their respective conference championship game if I had to take a guess. Been a season ticket holder for 20+ years and I'll take a season like this over the many other seasons I've had to put up with over the years.

Circling back to this topic real quick ... @emmitt01 -- is stebo going to cook the crow or do you want someone else to do the cooking? 😉
-
Even when we win ... and win big ... we gotta start a firing thread ... on Phil Bennett no less. This is a bit, right?

So when SMU exceeds this predicted win total you'll truly pull a Stebo and eat a crow? This will be sooo worth it.... 🤠🍻

I'm a Marriott points whore too and we've got our party of 10 guys staying at the Marriott Grand Château right off the Strip. It's pretty much across the street from the Cosmopolitan. They have accommodations up to 3 bedroom villas and 2200 square feet if you're going with several people.

THIS. 100%. We have people complaining about "forcing MGSF donors to pay $120 more for blue parking" with that $120 going to student athlete scholarships. I know from other donations that I make to charity and stuff that when I donate $300 or so I get like $500 - $1000 worth of stuff back in return. << Cue sarcasm alert >> And while I absolutely despise throwing out UT comparisons because I hate them so much, I have a work friend that donates $5000 for her 4 Longhorn seats and she gets a parking pass. I haven't once heard her complain that the parking passes at UT aren't $800 per game so she should just quit donating and give up her seats.

You are ... unfortunately ... 100% spot on with this comment. And that's the problem isn't it, big-picture wise? If you fire or non-renew a contract on a << insert protected class status of person here >> you are then a << insert "-ist" or "-phobe" tagline next >>. Real equality is when everyone is treated equally and I think we can all agree the CUSA commissioner is doing a very poor job, what with everyone fleeing -- correctly -- this conference. She should be let go, but you're right -- that can't happen.

As sure as the sun sets in the west, even after a 5 game win streak and beating a Top 25 team, after each loss come the threads to fire Seth. One-track minds around here. We're the oppo of Lego's "everything is awesome" mantra: here it's "everything sucks and needs to be burned down".

I'm guessing you want a do-over on this hot take prediction? It's spot on, other than UNT winning every remaining game. 😉

I don't think McGee is an a-hole. His irreverent take on the worst CFB teams is a must read each week. And funny as hell most times...

After standing for 3.5 hours in a cold steady rain to watch one of the Top 3 UNT victories that I've ever seen in-person, I was excited to get home and read happy, positive messages on this site for once. Whoops, guess I was asking too much apparently. 2nd victory EVER against a ranked team but still some people aren't happy. Lordie...

Maybe I missed a thread here, but if Brett gets this UTSA pick right, does he really go 12-0 in the prediction department for UNT? If so, that's damn fine work. I was looking at this year's Dave Campbell's Texas Football tonight and they pretty much got every single North Texas game correct too. The only hiccup was predicting a Mean Green win against La Tech. Other than that, they nailed every game.
