  1. Eating that way will make you a better husband AND father.
  2. love the idea. gotta think outside the box like this.
  3. That being said, I think the main reason in my mind as to why Tony M's stock has fallen has been lack of effort and some pouting during games. That hurts probably more than the numbers. I still think he goes 1st round though. Scouts can and should look past a bad situation and immaturity to see the talent that can be developed. Look at his numbers during the lebron camp, USA olympics, etc. etc.
  4. You know I didn't get that sense last year. I genuinely felt as if he had passion for North Texas and its fans. I think that has been beaten out of him after coaching changes, losses and general bad vibes around this team. Is it up to him to leave that all behind and give it 100% of effort? Yes, but he is obviously in a caustic situation right now with the team and coaching staff. I mean, we're all fans only and here we all are calling for canning the coach and "is it 2013 yet?" types of comments. I'm sure he's aware of it too.
  5. Great post, I am afraid we might regret firing RV for this. RV has a facilities vision and to me has just focused all of his attention on that one aspect of his job. Granted, that has cost us at times with some of the hires but Todd Dodge was allegedly a big reason why we were able to get Apogee done. If you are a Dr. Rawlings, how do you handle this? Just outright fire him? The single greatest program facilities builder in the history of the program over 100 years? I think it is more nuanced. I think you require that you have a final say in all hires and that each hire will include an analysis by outside consultants. Here's the problem. What if that is already happening? What if that is already in place? That's a scary thought. What if Rawlings is complicit too in these hires?
  6. Great article. Thanks for the repost.
  7. Unable to read it. Blocked - any chance the text of it could be re-posted here?
  8. Still. Big thanks to whomever was the secret santa. I "enjoyed" the game regardless and loved seeing the big crowd.
  9. Agreed. A more interesting interview would be to slip some truth serum into their bottled waters. What would that interview be like???
  10. Like the jersey, but replace the helmet with the "NT" one from the other design.
  11. Never questioned Riley's attitude or heart, he was probably the biggest competitor we've seen at UNT in any sport, maybe ever. I think he was out of position but I won't rehash that. Your point about the Dodge Family is understood but it feels like we (UNT AD's office) keep making the same mistakes in our hiring. That's a problem and we need to remember our history or be doomed to repeat it over and over again.
  12. So by wagon do you mean our old Buick station-wagon?
  13. One thing I noticed in regards to Lehigh's 3's - they were very meticulous about setting up for the shot. Made sure they were open, had the almost exact same mechanics in shooting them from a very similar point on the 3pt arc. It's almost, well, it's almost like they practiced shooting them that way, that same way over and over and over again. They took their time, focused on the net and kept their bodies almost perfectly in control during the shot. I know, crazy, huh? That they would practice something like that? Contrast that with what I saw from our shooters, with one exception being Tony M, - I did notice he was pretty good about his shot setup - was that we just looked like we took them from wherever they happened to be when the shot clock was winding down and it was like "oh crap I guess I have to shoot a 3 now" . Very different styles of play, I think that was obvious.
  14. I'll say this, I've finally learned my lesson when it comes to coaching hires. I will make no judgments on hires until after a full year of team play. Todd Dodge, Benford, even Mac, all of these guys, you just never know until after you see the team take the field. It is the same way with recruits. I will still get my hopes up, can't help that, but I will always reserve a sick feeling in my gut for the "Todd Dodge factor". As for recruits, I'll call it the "Riley Dodge factor" It is omnipresent with any hire that is unproven as a head coach. Am I being too harsh on Riley? I kind of think I am. Man, were those expectations high though.
  15. Sad to say but the attitude part probably cost Mitchell some SERIOUS $$$. You'd think he'd be an animal out there last night given what was at stake. Attitude matters. I mean, would you act that way for an interview? That said - we should all HOPE that Tony still goes in the high 1st round. It is what's best for both Tony (obviously) and the MG BB program.
  16. Part of implementing a new system is knowing how to ease into it. That's just basic people skills. You have to know how far to push your players into a new system, how much they can take. If you push them too hard this is what you'll get. I think this is another one of those areas where experience is an issue. This is why the Dan McCarney hire was so appropriate and why this Benford hire was such a head scratcher. McCarney has had experience implementing his system as a new head coach. He's been there and knows the psychology of it. Yes, Benford was well regarded and was a great assistant at Marquette, but did it make sense for him to be the head coach HERE? I remember when UNT president Gretchen Battai (sp?) made the comment about Todd Dodge "I was told by someone that we would be crazy not to hire this guy" or something along those lines. Sure, great, someone told you he's the best thing since sliced bread. Was that a Southlake big money donor?? Was it some Dodge HS fanboy? WAS IT SOMEONE WITH CREDENTIALS WHO KNOWS HOW TO EVALUATE COLLEGE COACHES? Again, even I succumbed to that hype. Here's the deal. I'm a fan, an idiot when it comes to that kind of thing, you shouldn't listen to my opinions, you (RV and the UNT pres. at the time) should listen to MANY opinions of other college coaches in the know. Surely some people at other college programs would have said, "dude, don't do it, it's a BAD IDEA". He's a HS coach that kind of thing just doesn't work out. Again, the judgement of the AD needs to be calm, collective reasoning. Taking opinions from many and then making the right call based on all of it.
  17. This I can agree with. "Best Answer"... One point I'd like to add though. This team seemed strangely to be able to match up with Lehigh for about the first 5-7 minutes. We were matching them score for score and were hustling like crazy, driving to baskets, really into it. After LeHigh started raynin' treys we looked like we just got a knockout punch and then lost our energy and want-to. The comments about his system do seem to make some sense though. But if we are really running full speed practices on game day that does seem foolish given that this team does not "FIT" his style if that is to be believed. If that is the case, are we (Benford and co.) sacrificing this season to try to transform this team to a fast paced type of system? If so you would think that Mr. Rick Villareal would have asked that type of question early on in the interview process and would have said no thanks on the deal. I mean - why the hell would you agree to this sort of a transitional year with a different style when you are already set up for success with the style of play that JJ had honed over the years into a working system? WHY WASTE THIS YEAR RICK???
  18. Love the "best answer" feature. Hilarious.
  19. Benford has the Mac Brown manic clapping technique down.
  20. Stood next to Donnie in the concession line. Word. #iamfamous
  21. First time I'm seeing the benford'd meme images. Laughed'd!!!
  22. Ok thanks, I'll check there first.
