  1. I wouldn't be so sure. 30K is very possible. SMU has a 30K seat stadium. What's wrong with that?
  2. You do realize that this is not actually "news"? This is just speculation that there could be news. We could be totally wrong about this. He could come out and talk about how great the weather has been and how it would really be neat to have a stadium by 2009 - if we had enough money.
  3. I was thinking this same thing. Sounds like there is enough smoke to be fire. We'll find out soon enough. If you're telling me breaking ground in 2009 that would be fine with me. I don't think it would take 3 years to build a 45K seat stadium. Maybe 18 months. Exiting times...
  4. Stebo- are you sure about the apartments thing? I thought I had heard that there were not going to be any.
  5. MOOT SPEAKS!!! I'm really curious to see first game attendance numbers. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Baylor type numbers with both end zones mostly full.
  6. I think you mean grunge, but hey, a lot of people have resentment. I'm not denying that.
  7. Also - listening to KD, he really does believe they'll win the conference tournament this year. We shall see. Hope he is right.
  8. I don't know if everyone realizes this or not but there is usually a weekly video news update with interviews of JJones, some players, and at times football information. It is a first class production - and free (for some of it). Check it out! Some good interviews with BBplayers on this latest one. Also some interesting information about how the Super Pit was remodeled with players lounge, big screen tvs, leather couches, etc. MGI
  9. One of the things he worried about was how cold it was up in Iowa. I know, I know, silly reason, but hey he did mention that as a concern.
  10. Looks like a real tough guy, kind of in the mold of Robert Gallery from Iowa (Oakland Raiders):
  11. The meetings I was involved in were usually involving which charity we did work for. Or which street we were going to clean up in Denton for our community service (which we did regularly). Or sometimes we would congratulate ourselves on having an average GPA well above the campus average. Now doesn't that make you feel like you just kicked a puppy?
  12. Just the other day, I projectile vomited before a big meeting. It was awesome. I came out of the bathroom, puke on my polo shirt, looked over at my fellow colleagues and beat my chest and said "heart!! who's got it!?!?". They all laughed at me and said - "dude that is disgusting, you're going to need to dry clean that shirt". I guess it doesn't translate into the business world. Oh well.
  13. I remember that exact play. I was at that game surrounded by probably 80,000 OU fans. I also remember the towel gate.
  14. Damn you quoner! I'm in a meeting and you almost made me laugh out loud. Would have a hard time explaining that one. For a while I thought you might be losing your touch. Not anymore!
  15. WHOA!?!? It is true! Amazing! Also kind of sad, no? Wouldn't he be happier as a president or administrator at another school? I have to say I'm kind of shocked.
  16. They're going to need a bigger venue for this next year. I think that the American Airlines center MIGHT be big enough. As a contingency, probably want to talk to the Smirnoff center folks.
  17. Personally I could care less if you do it at 30 or 45K. But if you're telling me I have to wait 10 more years before we have enough money to afford a 45K seat stadium, then I have a BIG problem with that. We need a new stadium yesterday. It all boils down to how much can you raise and in what timeframe. Based on prior experience I think we should capitalize on what we have now and move forward with the stadium as quickly as possible. If that means 30K, so be it.
  18. Basically, if I can remember all the facts correctly, RV drafted a proposal to increase the student athletic fees by a large amount, maybe $150 per year more or something close to that. There was a vote, hardly any students voted, and the small handful of voters narrowly voted it down. About 6 months to a year later, RV came back with an amended draft for an increase that was half as much as the original amount. That one passed. That money has been used to buy the Liberty Christian school buildings over by the new Athletic center. It also has helped to build the new women's facilities to ensure title nine compliance. I'm sure I didn't get all the numbers or time frames exactly correct but basically that was what happened. RV was giddy that the first amount he proposed would enable us to build the new stadium in a number of years no problem. That fell apart and now we are kind of stuck raising that money ourselves without the fee. Next time there is a rate increase there may be no vote at all. It may just be imposed, like it or not. If I got any of these facts wrong, anyone feel free to correct me.
  19. Don't be so sure buddy. Remember the athletic fee increase vote? Failed first time.
  20. That bridge crossing across I35 will be a nightmare to cross for large numbers of people. They really need to build that expansion to the bridge otherwise I see most people driving across it.
  21. Well, wait a minute though. I've been to their stadium. When you say they have no on campus stadium, it is maybe a 5 minute drive from campus. And worth the drive. For the size of the school, the stadium is top notch. Great sight lines, beautiful construction. If we are comparing this to fouts well... And a question - are we considering eagle point - "on campus"? You really can't walk there - that's my point also.
  22. Yes, absolutely. I think it is a valid concern. However I feel a lot better about raising this money with Dodge at the helm than I did with Dickey. Unfortunately I don't think NT has a silver bullet. We don't have a boone pickens. We have to find 60 mini-pickenses at 1 million each. Or 10,000 nano-pickenses at $6,000.
