  1. Did Mack meet Mac?
  2. Thanks!! Hope you are well. I've invited the UNT opera program to perform in NYC on March 15. You should come up!

  3. You are correct, I remember that Simon and Garfunkel song that was popular while Fry was here..."Lloyd Bridges Under Troubled Waters"
  4. "They just don't have other people taking their tests or attending class on their behalf..." Well that's the problem in a nutshell! Can't we just find someone from UNC or someplace similar to show us how its done??
  5. Looks good but they missed some opportunities for speakers and topics. How about: Kram1 "The Power of Eternal Optimism" Plumm Mean Green "The Effectiveness of fonts and colors in Written Communications" Silver Eagle "The Evolution of Marching Band styles in Texas and Beyond" I am sure there are others that I missed.
  6. Rebranding.
  7. I think this is great. A few months ago, I was on campus for the first time in many years. Unfortunately, I was not able to catch a game but I did see the very impressive Apogee Stadium and all the other new buildings around campus. The physical aspect of North Texas may have changed but that special atmosphere that was present forty years ago is still there. And this video captures all that is unique and special about our university. Link
  8. Time for a drink. what a game
  9. "Congratulations to TCU and SMU on their remarkable success in advancing to major conference affiliations" Now we know for sure that we are not in a major conference if there was ever any question.
  10. These guys have short memories. North Texas and Tulsa were conference mates in the MVC for many years.
  11. We should start bringing our own floats!
  12. When this all settles down, I think we and all the other non-AQ schools will be in a sort of football purgatory if not so already. At least there will be plenty of good company!
  13. Here is a nice article in today's New York Times about the background and success of Ark State's coach. North Texas receives a mention. Who recalls that our hiring of Todd Dodge received similar national recognition? That is until we played our first game against Oklahoma. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/28/sports/ncaafootball/coach-from-blind-side-thrives-in-college-game.html?ref=ncaafootball
  14. North Texas 24 ASU 21 ArkStFan stays home to watch game 8 of the World Series and his team falls apart without him.
  15. I suspect most of the support or lack of support for heckling is along generational lines but I'm sure there are exceptions. Years ago, people justified the emphasis on sports in high schools and colleges as important in building character. Now, it seems the characters are the one building sports. Is it OK for parents to heckle little kids on the soccer fields or little league? Must be because it happens all the time. Is it OK to applaud when an opposing player is injured on the field, also which is also happening on some campuses? Where do you draw the line?
  16. That was after my time. In my day, we marched barefoot and wrote our formations on the back on a shovel with a lump of coal.
  17. I think the band should start wearing spats again.
  18. Perception wise, yes. I was listening to the local sports talk station and the host was saying he found some football on TV tonight: FIU v Troy. After a few guffaws from everyone in the station, he said it's amazing what you'll watch when you are desperate!
  19. Of course you are correct! One of our favorite weekend trips from Durham is to visit Blowing Rock.
  20. I wasn't going to bring that up but you are absolutely correct about the origins of "Happy Appy". While we are at it, ECU used to be called Easy U.
  21. "Happy Appy", as it used to be called around here, is the real thing. Students like to attend due to its beautiful location in the Smokey Mountains. I suspect most ACC teams are reluctant to schedule them after speaking with Michigan. They have two primary problems. First, there is no media-market at all in that part of North Carolina. Second, the closest airport is about 1 1/2 hours away in the Triad region of the state and that is not even a major airport. Who knows what will happen? A sleeper could be Old Dominion. I've written about them before and their basketball program is as good or better than any CUSA program. Just in their second or third year of football, they are more than holding their own in the tough Colonial Conference. Their advantage is that Tidewater is the largest metropolitan area in the country without a major league sports team. I do think North Texas gets the invite, however.
  22. Is this a trick question? 1. Yes I agree we needed to change the time 2. I disagree we should not have changed the time An autographed picture of Vic Trilli goes to the first lucky caller with the correct answer.
  23. Remember the poster that told us we were getting Mac (albeit he was described as a Florida coach) long before he was on anyone'e radar? Where is he when we need him now? Greetings from Hungary.
  24. From now on, please call me LGAC. We can all use a little branding.
