  1. Just back from the Ohio game and enjoyed that they hosted a Band Day. I'm not sure the season opener was the smartest time to do this as the stadium was pretty full. Referring to the old NTSU Band Days, almost every high school band director in Texas owed their job to Mr. McAdow as he was quite the deal maker. Not too many weeks went by without a superintendent calling him and asking for a recommendation. So the directors felt obliged to attend. I can tell you first hand that while it may have been enjoyable for the students, most of the directors wanted nothing to do with it. As an aside, the Ohio band was a real source of pride for the fans. They marched like it was 1975, complete with spats and overlays! Silver would have approved!
  2. Yes, at the game, I was pretty sure we were going to pull it off. The Ohio fans quited down (they had been pretty rowdy throughout the game), and we did indeed have the momemtum but we let this one slip by. Talking to some of the Ohio fans afterwards, they felt is was going to go our way also and were glad to get away with a win.
  3. This is the first North Texas game I've been able to attend in four years so this is a big deal for me. At sixty years old, there is the same excitement and anticipation I felt when I attended my first game vs BYU in 1971. We'll whip these guys tomorrrow! Mark my words.
  4. I am as wel but will not arrive until Saturday. I'll be the one in the green shirt!
  5. North Texas 33 Ohio 21 I'm not making the drive to Athens just to see us lose!
  6. This thread reminds me of the pre-season discussions prior to Todd Dodd's debut. Some thought we had a chance for an undefeated season which included taking Oklahome to the woodshed.
  7. Yes! Looking forward to the game. For you youngsters, we used to whip Louisville every season like a red headed step-child.
  8. They looked great! Congratulations to the Mean Green. It's been a long time!
  9. There has been great sportsmanship from the Vandal fans that have come to this board. Thanks!
  10. Great game. No moral victories for the Bison!
  11. That's what we're talking about! Well done, Rick.
  12. Here is the third annual Grid of Shame according to the Wall Street Journal. Our "weakling" comnection is easily understood but hopefully corrested this season, but I would guess the embarassed ranking is a result of a large percentage of our athletic budget coming from student fees. Grid of Shame
  13. C-USA does like its colors! But here are some of the worse nicknames in the entire country, in my opinion. Tulsa's makes no sense at all. UAB? Who wants to be named after an article of clothing? West Virginia is not exactly known for his vast plains and thundering herds of livestock. Raiders? Raiding what...other colors? Bulldogs, Owls, Panthers, Golden Eagles are boring. There are some good ones: Green Wave, Pirates (very approipriate for their geographical location), Roadrunners, Miners and of course, our own beloved Mean Green. Thank goodness we switched from Eagles but I liked our original nickname, the "Normal Boys"
  14. That's pretty surreal when you think about it! To those who want a new helmet design, maybe here is the answer: The new helmet could feature the hat with a helmet on it. That would really mess with people's minds. As far as the shirt goes, let's give a jeer.
  15. For those that are thinking about attending the Ohio game next week, I just ordered my ticket but the guy at the ticket office told me they are expecting a sell out. You may want to get your tickets soon. I hope we have this problem for the Idaho game!
  16. Congratulations!!
  17. Mean Green 33 Vandals 20 Green Brigade -10 for the underserved flack they will take for wearing unmatched shorts
  18. He should have included a scene of UTSA fans enjoying some fried chicken.
  19. It was all a misunderstanding. See here for proof. Poor Central is always the odd man out here. With UNC, Duke, and NC State as neighbors, it is hard for them to get attention unless something like this happens. Some may recall when a Central student accused the Duke lacrosse team of rape. This accusation was false (the Duke players were no angels, however) but as a result, there is now at least some sort of attempt from the two schools to make nice, such as playig their opening football game against each other.
  20. Yes, that was quite a big deal to get that McDonalds. Previously, you had to get to University Dr near TWU for the only McDonalds in town. The franchise owners were big supporters of North Texas, came to eveything in their McDonald's blazers. As Drex said, the place was entirely decorated in lime green, not only the helmets but also large murals of some of the great moments in North Texas sports.
  21. How's the wheat, barley, pea, lentil, bluegrass, and canola harvest looking this year?
  22. How's the potato harvest looking this year?
  23. Yes, that's the logo but as several have said, it was never on a white helmet, always greem as far as I know. Unless the earlier posting of the white helmet is a trick photo to throw everyone off, we can now confirm that that the "throwback" uniform will be a mashup rather than just one uniform from our past.
  24. "The Nest" infers a refuge for laying eggs... not that we haven't done our share of that in the recent past.
