  1. A point of clarification. We do not belong to the UT system. We are our own system but your point is valid. It is going to take a major re-do to right this situation but I frankly don't see it coming.
  2. When growing up in Virginia, Madison was an all woman's college specializing in teacher education. Look at them now.
  3. At least UTEP is beating Incarnate Word!
  4. Regardless of his level of play, calling a young man "garbage" is uncalled for.
  5. We wish. James Madison is leading SMU as the 4th quarter begins.
  6. I recall Fry saying that he had no choice but to leave the Valley. Of the football schools, Cincinnati had already gone while Memphis and Louisville left about the same time we did. Only Tulsa, West Texas, and NM State remained. Who knows what he was really thinking? My guess is that he thought we were going to be invited to join the SWC. We all know how that turned out.
  7. Very impressive! The last D3 game I attended was NC Wesleyan vs Ferrum College. At halftime, there was a drawing for a quarter side of beef.
  8. Growing up in Norfolk, Va in the 50's and 60's was pretty special. Prostitute capital of the U.S!
  9. 1971. My first game was North texas vs BYU at the Cotton Bowl. Every Mormon in Texas was there. If I was ever tempted to steal a bicycle, that would have been the time.
  10. I think "State Fair" was the best movie ever made. As a plus, it starred North Texas alum, Pat Boone.
  11. Agree, it was very well done. I was a bit surprised there was no mention of the golf team's four national championships.
  12. It seems everyone with a computer is ranking something now. The referenced ranking is suspect to me as it ranks Belmont University as the best in the South! I have never heard of this place and can assure you that they are not a major force in music. The ranking also says SMU and TCU are other strong schools of music in Texas. Both schools are good but is is generally acknowledged that Rice and UT-Austin are the other really strong programs in Texas. There are about five programs in the US that are acknowledged as tops: Juilliard, Curtis, Eastman, and perhaps New England Conservatory and Indiana. There are others that are consistently ranked very high including Michigan, Cincinnati, Illinois, Florida State, Manhattan School of Music, Yale, USC, and of course North Texas. It's really anybody's guess who is better. For example, Illinois is usually ranked higher than North Texas but Dean Scott was the dean there prior to coming to North Texas.
  13. Nice post! Yes, I'm very proud to be a grad of the COM and am fortunate to make my living in music as the director of an opera company in NYC. Jim Scott is a very impressive individual and has taken the COM to new levels. Musical America (the "authority") named the COM one of the top 50 in the world and that is saying something. He works very hard at fundraising as the state provided budget is not nearly enough for him to maintain these levels of excellence. He makes about a quarter of what Dan McCarney makes. I also know he attends football games! PS. The reason Juilliard credits do not transfer is that they are not accredited.
  14. I may have mentioned this before, but I once had dinner with Caspar Weinberger.
  15. Heh, heh.. http://screengrabber.deadspin.com/kansas-state-band-formation-is-nsfw-1728983145
  16. Well done, WKU. It wasn't so long ago that they were about the only team we could beat!
  17. Someone must have lit a fire under them.
  18. Did Plumb put you up to this?
  19. Congratulations!!
  20. It is a hallmark of fine journalism that they have a photo of North Texas under the caption for Texas State. Well done, Jason!
  21. ODU just signed a home and home series with UNC. According to the article, UVa proposed a 1 and 2 series with them but ODU rejected this, insisting on a home and home contract. For a school that is just starting out in FBS football, they are doing pretty well in the scheduling department! http://hamptonroads.com/2015/08/north-carolina-odu-sign-football-deal-brings-tar-heels-norfolk-2017
  22. I've been to most of these towns and agree Denton ranks right up there. But the ranking of Durham as #2 casts some real doubt on their process. Durham has one of the highest crime cities in the county with failing public schools and a downtown that is all but deserted at night. Things are getting better but there is still a long ways to go. On the other hand, neighboring Chapel Hill which hosts UNC, is the archetypical college town. Even the village's fire trucks are painted baby blue!
  23. Get your minus 1s ready now. Here's a cheer from our past: Enchilada. guacamole, tortilla team... Hot Sauce, Hot Sauce Go Mean Green!
