How cheap did you drink in college?
letsgiveacheer replied to NTAlum09's topic in Mean Green Football
Unfortunately all too true. The irony was that at that time, the legal drinking age in Texas was 18. We had to drive to Lake Dallas if we wanted anything which at that time, was a 1A high school town with a bunch of liquor stores to accommodate the NTSU students. Lincoln Park came later and we then had a choice of going south or east for a bottle of Everclear. -
Historic moments in UNT athletics

"On a different note, but one that was not good news on the national scene, was when our football team got caught stealing hundreds of towels, sheets, and blankets from a hotel in Logan, Utah...that one made USA Today and CNN back in the mid 90's..." Heh, heh. I remember that but even here, we are not alone. http://www.deseretnews.com/article/524986/AT-BAUGH-MOTEL-TEAMS-THROW-IN-THE-TOWEL.html?pg=all -

Historic moments in UNT athletics
letsgiveacheer replied to Tyler Maryak's topic in Mean Green Football
Sad but true. We were very respectable in the Odus Mitchel years and the later part of Fry's tenure but there is really not a thing on a national level to give any prominence to our program. During our Sun Belt run, we were beaten like step-children in our non-conference games. -

We would need to carefully research this before making such a claim. Angelo State had an African American on their team in 1953. They were a junior college then, but still.. http://sportsday.dallasnews.com/college-sports/collegesheadlines/2014/02/25/long-unknown-to-those-outside-west-texas-first-black-player-in-intercollegiate-texas-football-finally-gets-recognition -
Coach Gene Stallings visits Seth Littrell today
letsgiveacheer replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
We must have owed him some residual fees for all the successful consulting he did for us. -
Michigan State & Nike making a Mean Green uniform
letsgiveacheer replied to 3XL's topic in Mean Green Football
Compared to their new uniform, ours look a little spartan. -
And the story continues as it was rumored that Fry voted San Diego State very high the week before we played them, putting them in the top 20. Of course we won, making it the only time we have beaten a ranked team.

I do think Cheerwine is better than that awful Big Red stuff I used to see in Denton! -

Cheerwine = acquired taste -
I think he is a very good hire for Texas State and had though we would go after him as well. JMU put a licking on SMU this past season.

That's very, very sad and I am sorry to hear this. My experience was in the Air Force and as a commander for many years, recall many harsh sentences for somewhat minor infractions. One case that i still remember was an airman who failed to make good on a 2300 check to a local body shop. He was given 5 years. Returning to the tragedy at hand, I hope whoever prosecutes this crime, civilian or military, achieves the maximum sentence if proven guilty.

Do you have any statistics to support your claim? In this very sad case, there is concurrent jurisdiction. The military has a claim to prosecute a crime committed by any member. There was a 2010 case in NC where a soldier was acquitted for a triple murder in a civilian court. He had left the army following the murder but after his acquittal, the army recalled him to active duty and then prosecuted him under the UCMJ and found him guilty and then sentenced to death. My guess is since he was arrested by Federal Marshals while on a military installation, the parties desire that he will be tried in a civilian court. This may and can be reversed once the case makes its way through the courts.

North Texas student shot and killed
letsgiveacheer replied to greenjoe's topic in Mean Green Football
Yes, I read about this last night and it is such a sad story. -
I'm just happy Frankford & Midway is open again. I needed a little something to tide me over until the 15th. Joking aside, congratulations, Emmitt. You do us proud.

The pleasure is mine and a very Merry Christmas to you and your family as well!

It could have Benford worse.

We're only down 19. I hope we can pull this off!

A few say he was confused by speaking in a football stadium for the first time...reverb and all that. Most think he did a little too much early celebrating.

That never fails to amuse me to no end.

Ha! Yes...the Mean Green Machine! I also recall the green suit and hat he wore everywhere. Thanks for the memory! I wonder if he is still with us?

We are excited about every four years.

I recall Hayden Fry driving around town in a lime green Chevy! It was a SS 396 if I recall correctly.
