MGB: UNT, Memphis announce series
letsgiveacheer replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Excellent news. Now if we could just snag Louisville, Cincinnati, and a few others, we would be right back where we were in 1969! -
I think you can also get one from the U of Florida.

No problem, my friend. I thought it was great!

North Carolina is fast becoming an embarrassment to the nation and the UNC sandal is but one example. Rather than addressing the problem, UNC has spent almost 8 million on PR firms and lawyers. Most people here believe the head coaches..football, basketball, soccer, etc knew nothing about this and are innocent. The "Carolina Way" was nothing but a hypocritical slogan. If UNT was UNC, we would have been shut down long ago. http://wncn.com/2015/10/26/unc-spent-nearly-7-6-million-on-lawyers-pr-services-in-academic-scandal/

Yes, accountability is generally high for commanders in any service. His career is finished but he will still be allowed to retire with a pension rather than be forced out.

That's a good one! For the life of me, I have never understood this animosity towards our music program. Would someone please remind me where the largest gift ever made to UNT came from? Was it from a former football star,? You know, the window to our university? Maybe someone impressed with our business school? Now I remember...it was from someone would supported our College of Music.

In contract to the article's title, I didn't see any "marketeers" responding, just two biology majors and a journalism major but Jackson's point is valid. I don't know of any top university that even has a slogan and have always felt ours were demeaning. The worse one was "UNT, the Metroplex's best kept secret". Someone please explain that to me. "A Green Light to Greatness" also sound cheap and was a rip-off of Southern Railways, "A Green Light to Innovation" But if we are going to have a slogan, how about... North Texas.. we're pretty good for the money

A new stadium may be in the future for ODU
letsgiveacheer replied to letsgiveacheer's topic in Mean Green Football
They have tried to incorporate as much of the existing stadium as possible. The existing stadium is quite classic, plus Virginians can't easily tear things down. It's an old joke...but how many Virginians does it take to change a light bulb? Three, one to do the changing and two to talk about how good the old one was. -
It is pretty odd that we have never played Old Dominion in football and it is one series I am anticipating, Norfolk being my home town. Anyway, there may be a move afoot for them to build a new stadium, replacing the existing Foreman Field. I would bet that this happens! http://pilotonline.com/sports/college/old-dominion/football/new--seat-odu-stadium-could-open-for-season-developer/article_31cb5f25-bb3f-5bc8-b05e-610c0c6748a7.html

Agree. Things look good for our WBB program. There's no reason why you guys should know this but in the early days of college WBB, ODU was the powerhouse. They won three national championships and was once runner-up in the early 80's.

Too bad but closer than I would have expected.

Ivy League Coaches Eliminate Tackling at Football Practices
letsgiveacheer replied to Greenrex's topic in Mean Green Football
Yes they are, at least the few I have known. This is third hand information so may be all hogwash but I understand the coaches have a gentlemen's agreement concerning the academic standards of incoming freshmen. Obviously no dummy is going to get into an Ivy League School, football star or not, but even Harvard knows that are not going to be able to recruit a tackle with a perfect SAT score. Using the old SAT scale, each school is only allowed X number of recruits with SAT scores of 1100 to 1200, X number 1200 to 1300, etc. -
Sun Belt dumping Idaho and NMSU
letsgiveacheer replied to greenb.o.g.'s topic in Mean Green Football
I'm not sure what would be worse...getting kicked out of the Sun Belt or losing to Portland State by the worse margin in NCAA history. Joking aside, I am sorry for these guys. My wife went to "State" and I also think we have played them more than any other school. Plus, they have the most politically incorrect fight song in the business. -
I went to the last game we played there and cannot recommend it highly enough. The atmosphere is quite special. There is a parade in the morning (not the type you are used to seeing) followed by the game. I recommend you arrive early enough to attend both as well as stroll around the campus. Assuming you take the Metro-North train from Grand Central, you'll need to take a rather expensive taxi from Garrison which is the nearest station to West Point. Even the train ride is a treat as you travel up the Hudson and the leaves should be changing around that time. As for me, I work in NYC bit have a business obligation on game day that I cannot get out of. What bad luck! If anyone wants to know about hotels, restaurants, etc in NYC, just let me know.

Thank you for the correction!

You youngsters may not know that the very first post-season game we played was called the Salad Bowl. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1948_Salad_Bowl

Top Teams UNT have Never Played
letsgiveacheer replied to Mike Jackson's topic in Mean Green Football
Who knew we played BYU so many times? I recall the 1971 game in the Cotton Bowl as it was my first. According to their stat page, we have actually played them five times, winning two. I agree they would be a good opponent at Apogee especially since we can now leave the soft drink concessions open. Games Played: 5 at North Texas: 2 at BYU: 3 First Game: 1958 Last Game: 1980 BYU record vs. North Texas All Games 3-2-0 at BYU 2-1-0 at North Texas 1-1-0 Neutral 0-0-0 Average Score 25.6-19.2- 26 replies
