  2. Since Hayden Fry left in 1978, we have not had a coach who left with a winning record (Jerry Moore was .500). In fact, with the exception of Moore, all of them were fired. I'm not sure why we think this regime will be any different. But I certainly hope they are!
  3. The Pit was not commonly referred to as the Snake Pit either. As with the Mean Green confusion, sometimes I think the Athletic Department wants to perpetuate these stories.
  4. I hope we do indeed have a turn-around and the examples seen here are encouraging. However, the odds are not in our favor. In 2012, a comprehensive study showed "that if you are a bad team, changing your coach didn’t make a difference". http://freakonomics.com/2012/12/21/is-changing-the-coach-really-the-answer/
  5. I told them in 1971 that they needed to get rid of Rod Rust!
  6. Sounds about right to me. We've been bending over for a long time.
  7. ODU's AD came from WKU. ODU is already planning to leave the CUSA for the AAC. And to think they had no football team and their basketball rival was Philadelphia Textile when we were playing Louisville, Memphis, Cincinnati, etc.
  8. Do any of our facilities include a jail?
  9. Of course they are not going to sanction Baylor or any other big program. Those days are past. After 20+ years of fake courses, what did they do to UNC? Nothing.
  10. The uniform on the right was worn for almost 20 years and was black with the green cape. The uniform on the left entered service in 1969 and had a green jacket, black pants and the dreaded "overlay" featuring the NTS design. The NTS was the exact same formation that Mr. McAdow used on the field to play the alma mater, always before the came began. The band would then transition to a block formation, facing the flag, to play the national anthem. I can't tell you the joys of sitting at Fouts in 100 degree heat wearing a heavy wool uniform with another wool overlay on top. I'm surprised people didn't pass out from heat stroke. But we were tougher in those days.
  11. That's OK. We get plenty of recruits from Dallas.
  12. UNT Football Camp .... Featuring Portland State Coaches!
  13. ODU will sort this out in due time and become a CUSA contender. When I left Norfolk in 1971, ODU's main rival in basketball was the Philadelphia Textile Weavers while we were playing Memphis, Cincinnati, Louisville, etc. Since that time, they have won 28 NCAA national championships in a variety of sports and have the highest athletic budget in the conference by a wide margin. I would say they passed us by many years ago.
  14. You guys crack me up! Winning at UNT: #UNTenable
  15. Always nice to see this. The other day while grocery shopping in Chapel Hill, I saw a van with both North Taxes and Wake Forest decals. On further reflection, maybe that was our former WBB coach?
  16. I just got the "correct" call a few moments ago. I asked him of there were any hot dogs left over from the BBQ. He said "no", but offered to have a Dominos pizza sent over if I wanted.
  17. How naive. It's all about recruiting sexual predators and protecting them while in school, arranging fake classes, having tutors do the players' homework, slipping them a little cash when they are short, fixing up their parents homes, altering their SAT scores and more. That's how they big boys do it and if we had a AD worth his salt, we would be doing it, too! Joking aside, that's great news and congratulations!
  18. I entered (matriculated!) North Texas in 1971, the first year Nolan was president. At his first address to the university, he said "I am the president of the greatest university in the world." The audience then started laughing loudly...but I degrees. Nolan was very pro athletics. He figured out a way to bring Fry to Denton by paying him both the AD and the head coach salaries. While Nolan was president, both the basketball and football teams were nationally ranked for the only time in our long history. He was very well liked by the students; he even gave up his president's mansion on Ave C. He was not so well liked by the faculty as he did not have a doctorate. He was more of a business manager rather than an academic.
  19. My apologies if I misread your intended message. I do know the the COM struggles every year to get as much as they do. In fact, the budget I quoted was 350,000 less than they received in 2014. The University of Michigan, which has a music school much smaller than ours but roughly equal in terms of prestige, has a budget of about 44M a year!
  20. Right you are, Sir! That explains why the 2015 line item for athletics was 18.2M while the COM budget was 12.9M. Then of course we add the student fees to arrive at the true figure of about 21M. Once again, let me say the COM is not the source of the athletic department problems. If someone has proof to the contrary, please present this for all of us to consider.
