Thanks for this. Yes, it will be a tough game. As someone posted earlier, we are about 6 point underdogs.

This kind of stuff is usually reserved for a UNT coach's third year, not their second game.

WANT TO SEE A REAL FOOTBALL BAND?
letsgiveacheer replied to SilverEagle's topic in Mean Green Football
I saw them at the last North Texas-Ohio game in Athens and their band really did an excellent job. You know, the whole world went to hell when this communist "corps style" of marching was embraced by almost every band in the country. It is about as exciting as watching a house plant grow. -
WANT TO SEE A REAL FOOTBALL BAND?

He is not the marching band director at Ohio which is usually reserved for the bottom man on the totem pole. The days of the head man conducting both the marching band and the top concert bands are long over. -

There may be suggestions but the athletic department will not have any control over the band. Williams is a tenured professor not a staff member. -
WANT TO SEE A REAL FOOTBALL BAND?

The band never has marched in a military style. When Mr.McAdow had it, marching was done in what is called an "8 to 5" style. i.e. 8 steps to every 5 yards. -
I once had dinner with Caspar Weinberger.

I see Sul Ross took it on the chin, too.

Thank you and we will be back, no doubt! I hope you stick around after your son has left the program, too. It is disappointing that so many parents are active while their children are on the team but never to be heard from again once they graduate. You will always be welcome here!

Grade the Coaching/Performance
letsgiveacheer replied to El Paso Eagle's topic in Mean Green Football
Unfortunately, it is going to be a rough season which will make it tougher to recruit for next season and the next season, etc. Forty years of losing has gotten us in this hole that will be difficult, if not impossible to recover from, no mater who we get as coach. -
I suspect they are both wondering what they got themselves in to.

If only our locker rooms were better.

As usual, our SID has it wrong. We were definitely at Texas Stadium for the SMU game in 1974. I recall having to climb aboard one of SMU's student buses and telling them to stop throwing crap on our band whose buses were parked next to theirs. One correction, Silver. Mr. McAdow had left by that time and turned the band over to graduate assistant Jim Hansford until a new director could be found. Yes, our leadership is really getting younger. With names like Wren, Seth and now Jared, I wouldn't be surprised if the next hire is either a Logan or Zachary.

B12 Chooses Preferred List Candidates

My guess is that Old Dominion will go to the AAC next. They have been working towards this goal since the day they got in C-USA. -

I remember that well. Instead, we've become the "Idaho of the South"- 28 replies

B12 Chooses Preferred List Candidates
letsgiveacheer replied to Cerebus's topic in Mean Green Football
Yes, former MVC conference mates Cincinnati, Memphis, and Louisville all moving up in the food chain. And to think we used to whip them like a red-headed stepchild! -
If I recall, most of us were predicting a close game or possible upset when TD debuted against Oklahoma and we all know how that went. And we were over the top about Mac and his debut against FIU and we all know how that went. But I just can't bring myself to predict a Mean Green loss so: UNT 21 The worse cheaters in the history of college sports: 14

This is the problem. We start a new era about every four years at North Texas, full of optimism, hype, and new slogans. If Littrell can turn things around, it will be the second miracle. Since i have been following North Texas football in 1971, every coach but two have been fired. The odds are stacked against us tremendously. But here we all are, still hoping.

That would be fiction. UNT's vocal program is not the "best", those accolades would go to Indiana, Juilliard, Yale (graduate only) and a few others. But certainly UNT is among the best and has produced many great singers over the years, including a number of singers on the Metropolitan Opera roster. https://opera.music.unt.edu/alumni While known for jazz, the strength of UNT's music program is its great depth in all aspects of music...opera, orchestral, keyboard, new music, theory, composition, etc. Other than the conservatories like Juilliard and Eastman, there are only a few places like Indiana or Cincinnati that can even approach this depth

Opera...now there is something I can speak about. As someone said, Murchison was never built for opera and the main performance hall does not have an orchestra pit or what is called flyspace for sets, props, etc. Large scale operas are held there but it is always a compromise. There is a smaller Lyric Theater in Murchison which does have a pit but it only seats 300 people, not nearly large enough to stage a grand opera or hold a reasonable audience. North Texas does have a highly regarded opera program. It won a national competition a year or so ago and I often audition and cast UNT grads in my New York City based company. It is always nice to see our youngsters doing so well in an extremely competitive environment.

UNT Dallas Law School in danger of not getting accredited
letsgiveacheer replied to Cerebus's topic in Mean Green Football
I suspect that it will be a long time before UNT-D's graduates are recruited by any of the large partnerships in the DFW area. According to this article in Money magazine, more than half of new attorneys are starting at 62,000 or less. http://money.cnn.com/2014/07/15/pf/jobs/lawyer-salaries/ -
Not football, but guess who is #1

Long, long ago, you had to have 60 hours to move out of the dorms unless you commuted. -

I have no idea why anyone would give any credence to these ridiculous "rankings". What were the objective criteria? Who did the site surveys? etc etc The author is one Liz Naughton who also ranked CSU Long Beach the leading state university in California and ranked University of New Mexico fourth among four in NM. The most notable university in New Mexico according to Ms. Naughton? The Institute of American Indian Arts, of course. Yes, we should really be proud of Liz's accolade. -
we need to change our name?
letsgiveacheer replied to Coach Bill Lewis's topic in Mean Green Football
Yes, the mug joke comes around about every three years but this time it has quite a bit of traction. On my Facebook account, this is shown as the #1 trending "news"item today.
