I saw them at the last North Texas-Ohio game in Athens and their band really did an excellent job. You know, the whole world went to hell when this communist "corps style" of marching was embraced by almost every band in the country. It is about as exciting as watching a house plant grow.

He is not the marching band director at Ohio which is usually reserved for the bottom man on the totem pole. The days of the head man conducting both the marching band and the top concert bands are long over.

There may be suggestions but the athletic department will not have any control over the band. Williams is a tenured professor not a staff member.

The band never has marched in a military style. When Mr.McAdow had it, marching was done in what is called an "8 to 5" style. i.e. 8 steps to every 5 yards.

Unfortunately, it is going to be a rough season which will make it tougher to recruit for next season and the next season, etc. Forty years of losing has gotten us in this hole that will be difficult, if not impossible to recover from, no mater who we get as coach.

I suspect they are both wondering what they got themselves in to.

I recall having to climb aboard one of SMU's student buses and telling them to stop throwing crap on our band whose buses were parked next to theirs. One correction, Silver. Yes, our leadership is really getting younger. With names like Wren, Seth and now Jared, I wouldn't be surprised if the next hire is either a Logan or Zachary.

And we were over the top about Mac and his debut against FIU and we all know how that went. This is the problem. We start a new era about every four years at North Texas, full of optimism, hype, and new slogans. If Littrell can turn things around, it will be the second miracle. Since i have been following North Texas football in 1971, every coach but two have been fired. The odds are stacked against us tremendously. But here we all are, still hoping.

That would be fiction. UNT's vocal program is not the "best", those accolades would go to Indiana, Juilliard, Yale (graduate only) and a few others. But certainly UNT is among the best and has produced many great singers over the years, including a number of singers on the Metropolitan Opera roster. https://opera.music.unt.edu/alumni While known for jazz, the strength of UNT's music program is its great depth in all aspects of music...opera, orchestral, keyboard, new music, theory, composition, etc. Other than the conservatories like Juilliard and Eastman, there are only a few places like Indiana or Cincinnati that can even approach this depth

Opera...now there is something I can speak about. As someone said, Murchison was never built for opera and the main performance hall does not have an orchestra pit or what is called flyspace for sets, props, etc. Large scale operas are held there but it is always a compromise. There is a smaller Lyric Theater in Murchison which does have a pit but it only seats 300 people, not nearly large enough to stage a grand opera or hold a reasonable audience. North Texas does have a highly regarded opera program. It won a national competition a year or so ago and I often audition and cast UNT grads in my New York City based company. It is always nice to see our youngsters doing so well in an extremely competitive environment.

I have no idea why anyone would give any credence to these ridiculous "rankings". What were the objective criteria? Who did the site surveys? etc etc The author is one Liz Naughton who also ranked CSU Long Beach the leading state university in California and ranked University of New Mexico fourth among four in NM. The most notable university in New Mexico according to Ms. Naughton? The Institute of American Indian Arts, of course. Yes, we should really be proud of Liz's accolade.
