What Are Your Thoughts on This Past Season(GIF Only Thread)

Please stop all these GIFS The same ones show up each time Haiku are sublime -
Without Googling, I knew that Kings Point had a midshipmen band and wish they would quit trying to pretend they were British. I did have to Google about the Coast Guard band, however. I knew they were stationed at New London, the same base as the Academy, but did not know if their mission included support for the Academy or not. Good job BeatNavy! You mentioned the inauguration parade. During Bush the 2nd's first inauguration, he saw the Kings Point Band and exclaimed, "here comes the Marines"! At that point in time, he did not even know we had a Merchant Marine Academy!

First, huge congratulations to the coaches and team for this great turnaround season. We may have a real program yet while I'm still vertical. I could not attend the game but enjoyed every word on the radio and followed many of the comments on social media. I suspect most people do not know that the West Point band is not made of cadets, rather they are NCO's that audition for the vacancies just like they would for an orchestra. They enter at a higher rank than the usual recruit to allow for their advanced training. Many of them have doctorates, for example. You may enjoy knowing there are a large number of UNT grads in the band. Here is an interesting article from their website about this which really speaks highly of the UNT College of Music. https://westpointband.wordpress.com/2016/10/20/mean-green-to-army-green/

Now this is something to really crow about!!

The ACC is really going to lower the boom on UNC's women basketball team now!!

Very true. Twenty years in the air force did nothing to increase my interest in AFA football. I wouldn't have driven ten miles to see them play unless North Texas was the opponent.

Rout in progress.

In the old days, Scrappy was a live eagle. I recall Mr. McAdow telling me the first one died and the last two were quite a bit of trouble so the idea was abandoned. They used to live at the Ft Worth Zoo.

It may be a trying "wait and see". The women lost to U of Nebraska by almost 30 points today. I should add that was Nebraska-Omaha rather than the home campus. It's a good thing UNT-Dallas is not on our schedule this year.

Marshall attendance.... GUESS IT

It is sad but has been going on a long time.. While a student in the early 70's, I recall the NT Daily gave the OU-Texas game more coverage than our own game. -
For some reason, I have a hankering for some pie!

You guys wanting black are so behind the times. Matte gray is the new "in" color. Which is a good thing. I always thought the green and black combination made us look like an X-Box,

Hello. Depending upon the age of your kids, you may want to consider Ninja New York. I have not been there but understand from colleagues with children that is a good place to visit. http://www.ninjanewyork.com/ Yes, although I am no fan, it is part of the NYC landscape and will be missed. For deli, I like Sarge's or 2nd Ave. Katz's is fun but it has become so popular that the wait can be enormous.

Odus Mitchell's Legacy Overlooked?
letsgiveacheer replied to Mike Jackson's topic in Mean Green Football
Wholeheartedly agree. I only had the pleasure of meeting him once as he had long retired when I arrived on campus. Just look at his list of conference championships, plus there was the integration milestone and also the fact he won the MVC championship in 1958, the very first year we started playing in the University Division as the top affiliation was called at that time. To put this in perspective, he won a conference championship ten of his twenty years as head coach. 1946 Lone Star; Odus Mitchell; 1947 Lone Star; Odus Mitchell; 1950 Gulf Coast; Odus Mitchell; 1951 Gulf Coast; Odus Mitchell; 1952 Gulf Coast; Odus Mitchell;' 1955 Gulf Coast; Odus Mitchell; 1956 Gulf Coast; Odus Mitchell; 1958 Missouri Valley; Odus Mitchell; 1959 Missouri Valley; Odus Mitchell; 1966 Missouri Valley; Odus Mitchell; -
This kind of stuff is inexcusable. I know we have new people on board but the SID should be responsible for getting the correct information out, not more confusion. Come to think of it, what kind of mental giant would even think that a school that has been playing football for over 100 years has never started 3-2 before? The odds for that happening would be tremendous.

The Army game will be here before you know it. If you have any opportunity at all to attend, please do so as there is no better place on earth to see a game, especially in October when the leaves should be at their peak. I have the good fortune to work in NYC and am happy to pass on some thoughts. Getting to NYC. For me, JFK is the preferred airport. You can take the Airtrain ($5) to Jamaica station, then either the E train to Manhattan or the LIRR to Penn Station. If you take a taxi, it is $75 to Manhattan. LGA is a bit cheaper to Manhattan by taxi but using public transport is difficult and requires a bus. EWR is also an option but you will spend a lot of time and money getting into Manhattan either using public transport or taxi. Hotels I like the Hiltons in NYC mainly due to their reasonable room size. Hotel rooms are notoriously small in NYC. You will see bigger closets than some hotel rooms in NYC and price is no indication of what you will be getting. When I am not at a Hilton, I always tip the desk clerk $20 in hope that I get a larger room than I paid for. Sometimes that works, sometimes not. I know most of the major hotels in NYC so if you have a question, please PM me. Getting to the game The train from Grand Central is fast and a great trip. You will get off at either Peekskill or Garrison and then take a cab. This will be expensive and about a 20 minute ride. Of course there will be other fans on the train that can help share. You'll also need to reserve a cab for after the game. If it was my choice, I would take the game-day ferry as previously discussed. At West Point I would try and attend the parade prior to the game if at all possible. You will be proud to be an American. Their band (made of NCOs and not cadets by the way) will probably play our fight song at both the parade and pre-game, too. When you hear the Army song, it is customary to stand. The Army fans will appreciate that. The game is over and UNT won. Now what do I do? I have a great suggestion that I know you all will be sure to want to do: Go to the opera! Yes, the Center for Contemporary Opera is producing a world premiere, Jane Eyre, by Louis Karchin on Oct 22, 8pm at the Kaye Playhouse on the Upper East Side. There is a great cast, creative team, and huge orchestra, called the "A list" by the New York Times. Also, I personally know someone who can get you some tickets. Get real, letsgiveacheer, I'd rather get hit upside the head with a 2 x 4 than go to an opera. Ok, here are some other suggestions: Where to go if you told your wife you were visiting a sick buddy but are really bringing your secretary to NYC. Begin the evening with drinks (a martini, of course) at the Waldorf Astoria's Peacock Lounge, then dinner at Le Perigord, followed by a nightcap at Bemelmans Bar at the Caryle Hotel. You will feel more comfortable at these places in a suit and tie. Where to go if you would like to have dinner at a Michelin starred restaurant but do not want to break the bank. My choice would be http://batardtribeca.com/restaurants/batard/. It is hard to find but for about $75, can have a really great dinner. No tie needed. here. Where to go if you would like a famous NY steak dinner. Keens, the Palm, Peter Lugers are all famous and worthwhile but my choice would be Maloney and Porcelli http://www.maloneyandporcelli.com They offer a wine dinner beginning at 8pm and for $85, you get unlimited wine (not the best, but very good), and choice of starter, entree, and desert. Their steaks are prime and it is actually a bargain. Where to go if you are seated in the middle seat between UNT90 and UNTLifer on the flight to NYC and Ben Gooding is in the row behind you, kicking your seat-back. You will need liquor, fast!! Finding a bar in NYC is about as easy as finding a Baptist church in Dallas. Two of my favorite dive bars are The Distinguished Wakamba Cocktail Lounge and the Holland Bar. There is nothing distinguished about the Wakamba Lounge, people are killed there. https://www.yelp.com/biz/the-distinguished-wakamba-cocktail-lounge-new-york https://www.yelp.com/biz/holland-bar-new-york Stay away from: Carnegie Deli...for rubes only willing to pay $25 for a sandwich Benash Deli...worst deli in NYC BBQ restaurants...these are thriving in NYC, but the natives do not know any better Any restaurant in Times Square..."hey kids, there's an Olive Garden, let's eat there!" The tragedy of this all: I can't go to the game as I will be tied up with the opera. What a dunderhead I was to schedule the show on the same day as the game. I hope all of you have a great time.

Looking at the Houston Chronicle website, coverage of the UNT-Rice game was buried in the generic college sports column. When I finally found the article, here is the headline: North Texas rallies from early deficit to beat Rice in double overtime A quick 17-0 lead isn't enough to get past Eagles

Yes, Band Day was a great NTSU tradition. As Silver said, it was always on Homecoming. Mr McAdow would invite bands from around the North Texas region as far south as Waco. He would also invite some service bands and three or four or those would also participate. As the parade was early in the morning, there was a distance limitation but at least 30 bands participated. The bands would arrive about 8am and immediately come to Fouts for a rehearsal. The parade began around 10am and would be organized at the Fouts parking lot. The North Texas band would always lead the parade, followed by the Denton HS band. After the parade, the bands were bused back to Fouts and provided a sack lunch. As game time neared, each band would march around the track, playing away. It was aways nice to see the little 1a bands trying their hardest to keep up with the 4A schools with their 200 member bands. At pre-game, we had our show, then the alma mater as was the custom in those days, and then fall into formation for the National Anthem. The service bands were then invited to join us on the field for the anthem as well. At half time, we would do our show and at the end, all the massed bands would join us for one or two tunes. Most, if not all, of the bands would stay to the end of the game. It was a great experience for them as well as their parents. It was also about the only time in the season that Fouts was almost full. I can say from experience that most of the HS band directors really despised Band Day. Most of them had Friday night games which ended past 10pm and then faced a 4am wake-up to get their bands to Denton. But, they were all loyal to Mr. McAdow and did this out of respect to him.

We had better be careful. Mac may have sold them our playbook.
