  1. I knew it was just a matter of time.
  2. When you are my age, that's not so much of a sacrifice.
  3. Very nice! There are two things that I'll always remember about Fouts, those WPA reliefs and the trough pisser. We should have saved that as well.
  4. True. Mississippi State was ranked 16 at the time and we lost the game by only two points 17-15. The only other game we lost that year was to 20th ranked Florida State. The other point to make is that there were 11 games in those days rather than the 12 played today.
  5. Abilene is known for its paradoxes.
  6. Freshman: Room 628 West Hall...three to a room! Sophomore: Clark Hall Junior, Senior: Apt on Ave E, the name of which I have forgotten. In those days, you had to live in a dorm until you had 60 hours. And the women had a 11pm curfew!
  7. I suspect that most on this board are at least two generations removed from WWII. Mr father graduated from high school in 1941, enlisted in the army and following his stateside training was shipped off with the Fifth Army to participate in the Italian campaign as a mortar gunner. About a year and a half later, he returned from the front with injuries which plagued him the rest of his life. I thought about him a lot on June 6th. As I read this debate, I am trying to think what he would have to say about all of this. My guess is that he would have preferred another day be chosen for this very special announcement. I realize the significance of 6/6 but this was also the 75th anniversary of D-Day and also most certainly the last time any of the participants will be alive for a major commemoration. None of this downplays the significance of Mason Fine's accomplishments. He is by all accounts a very special young man and I suspect that if his service was really needed in the military, he would be among the first to volunteer.
  8. Fouts Cotton Bowl Texas Stadium Tulsa Skelly Field New Mexico State Richmond Middle Tennessee Army Michie Stadium ODU Liberty ...but not Apogee! Now that I am retired, I plan to rectify that omission this coming season.
  9. Knit?? Hell no. We skinned some mules and wore the pelts!
  10. I suspect they all have partaken of the 'bible belt".
  11. We should sign UNT-D for a five game series at Apogee.
  12. Ha! I had no idea what the uniforms cost circa 1965 which is when the uniform I wore was purchased. The figure I quoted was taken from a brief discussion I had with the COM dean a few years ago in reference to the current uniforms.
  13. In the past, it has come from the College of Music budget and is a huge expense for them; somewhere in the neighborhood of $250,000
  14. On the contrary, his DCI background almost guarantees another era of "corps style" marching. He is not the director of the Northwestern Marching Band, but a grad assistant. Here is an example of his high school band on the field: I must say I am very disappointed with the hire. I hope I am wrong.
  15. We had some great games in The Pit with those former conference mates.
  16. What very sad news. I had the privilege of sitting next to him for the last game I saw at Fouts; UNT vs Utah State. He is a North Texas legend and great example. RIP.
  17. We are thinking that these scandals only exist at the P5 level but a quick Google will tell you that athletic programs at every level, including G5, FCS, and even D III are bending the rules.
  18. I see this as another indication of the success of our programs here. After all, we have another coach going to the P5 ranks.
  19. It was interesting to take a quick visit to one of the LSU fan boards to see the reactions. For the most part, "they've got nothing on us" seems to be the party line, which is disappointing in itself. And it is not just the P5 involved in this nonsense. Creighton is now identified and God knows who else.
  20. Looking at their past few month's stories, I see some pretty balanced reporting. https://www.ntdaily.com/category/sports/
  21. Tony Denton had this all figured out!
  22. We really seem to have trouble placing those ReddyIce machines!
  23. You are wrong, sir. I have been on this board too long to know otherwise. In no particular order, the conspirators include: SMU, the College of Music, the NT Daily, the Denton Record Chronicle, the residents of Denia, and in general, the artsy-fartsy students that populate our campus.
