  1. There was no North Texas section for the game so we were scattered all over the stadium. Maybe twenty to thirty UNT fans were there in total? I had the good fortune to be seated near UNTCambell who is as dedicated a Mean Green fan as you would wish. Coastal Carolina University has a nice stadium that seats about 20,000. Social distancing, masks, etc etc were all enforced. The Appalachian fans were all very gracious and friendly The outcome of the game was about what I expected. "Happy Appy" was the far superior team as well as better coached. However, our team played hard the entire game. Unlike many games where I have seen them "give up" this was not the case tonight. As I remarked to UNTCambell, after 50 years of following UNT football, I have seen only ten winning seasons. Once and awhile, it would be good to see a win in an important game.
  2. Now that is some creative thinking! These guys should be proud of themselves for "appropriating" a trademarked slogan from 2006!
  3. Unusually, tickets were not even available through the North Texas box office, you had to buy them through the official Myrtle Beach Bowl portal. As has been mentioned, most of the 5000 seats available were sold out in a few hours.
  4. Hello, you are welcome to one of mine. Please send me a PM.
  5. Yes, I just bought my tickets (they make you buy two!) and only the end zone was available.
  6. Eight years from now, we can finally breathe.
  7. Passionate fans are the backbone of any program.
  8. Well, that was a close one. Happy for our seniors.
  9. Like that one?
  10. Not to mention those two ignored rape allegations.
  11. I remember that game very well. There were about 300 in attendance although the official reported attendance was 1000! The "rumor mill" said that Fry voted SDSU very high in the coaches poll prior to the game which lead to their 18 or 19 ranking. And yes, they did make a mess of the visitor's locker room!
  12. For the perception of our conference, it was at least nice to have a ranked team.
  13. Are we sure this wasn't Ramon Flanigan and Silver Eagle?
  14. This is all well and good but classical music competitions are traditionally fraught with political bias. Unless these are judged in the blind, which they are not, the results are quite possibly skewed. The university does not talk much about an ill-fated jazz competition organized by Wynton Marsalis a year or two ago. Prior to the competition, the school talked this up quite a bit, with the president leading a large UNT delegation to New York City. Some invited schools like Berklee and Miami had the good sense not to participate. I told myself, this is not going to end well. Sure enough, not only did our world famous One o'Clock Jazz Band fail to win, they were not even in the top three. https://jazztimes.com/blog/temple-university-jazz-band-wins-jack-rudin-jazz-championship/
  15. Interesting... on the roof of the field house is painted "Denton Teachers College". That was never one of our many official names. I guess we had identity problems even then.
  16. The Ivy League just did this. ODU got this right. We, and everyone else, had no business playing football this season.
  17. I was there for Fry's first two seasons; 73 and 74 and remember our games pretty much as non-events. Many of the games were played at Texas Stadium which dwarfed our small crowd of supporters. The one exception was the 1974 NTSU-SMU game which did attract a decent crowd and interest. The worse example was our Nov, 74 game with San Diego State at Fouts which was remains our only victory against a ranked opponent. Not counting the band, there were not 300 fans in attendance. I remember the announced attendance was 1000!
  18. Understood, but ethics and college football parted ways long ago, unfortunately. If this mattered, schools would not be agreeing to play them.
  19. With Falwell Jr out of the picture, I would think Liberty could be more attractive to a conference now. As far as joining CUSA, I am not so certain they would be welcomed by ODU. Virginia is not a small state by any means but there are already 4 FBS schools in the state and JMU could easily compete in SBC or CUSA. Early on, Falwell the Elder said he wanted Liberty to be the "protestant Notre Dame" in college athletics. It looks like they are on their way.
  20. Their athletic budget appears to be about 5M more than ours.

  22. Getting away from us early again.
  23. MTSU.... I bit of trivia. The chair of Middle's School of Music was a classmate of mine at North Texas.
