Remember, according to SMU, you can lose/miss out on something you never had. Also, I agree our attendance is poor; however, when they make the reported attendance numbers, UNT fams call it out when it is way off. At SMU, like on Saturday, they can have 10-12K in the seats, report 21K, and then boast how they have higher attendance than UNT. But I thought you guys had the support of all of Dallas?

I am in no way in favor of getting transfers that cannot contribute, but I believe we should have a stronger emphasis on transfers. Currently, everyone is pointing to Texas State and Colorado as examples of what can happen. However, keep in mind that Texas State's previous coach went very heavily all transfers; in fact, I believe one of his classes was 100% transfers, yet he was unsuccessful. I will give Texas State credit. They are being very vocal about recruiting Texas high school players, but they seem to be putting just as much, if not a more significant, effort into bringing in transfers. We do not seem to be prioritizing or making a lot of effort at this. Also, as has been mentioned in other posts, I commented that even before the transfer portal and NIL, North Texas has never seemed to get the higher-level transfers that other G fives seem to land. This is very frustrating.

I'm not sure how many actual butts in seats we had, but I really doubt SMU had more than 12 to 13,000

Coach O is Keeping Receipts...
El Paso Eagle replied to NorthTexasWeLove's topic in Mean Green Football
This, and this again. In a short time he has brought more social media attention to North Texas than everyone else combined. If you don't understand the difference he's making in social media and getting players and people in general noticing UNT, then I'm not sure what anyone can say to you. -
Don’t Blame it All on the 3-3-5 Defense
El Paso Eagle replied to MeanGreenGlory's topic in Mean Green Football
I really wish a coach that runs a quick scheme offense would stop and adjust when the defense is struggling and try to use up the clock. This is something Seth refused to do and we had our defense stay on the field way too long in many games. I guess it's just part of the air raid mentality that won't go away -
This Honeymoon just got shorter
El Paso Eagle replied to TheColonyEagle's topic in Mean Green Football
For Morris, I will be interested in seeing how he adjusts in-season to what just happened on the Defensive Side of the ball. If, in the nightmare scenario, the Defence continues at this level with the 3-3-5, how does he react? I'm not saying to fire the DC this early or during the season, but do we even have the coaching experience level to change if needed? I believe Eric will get us headed in the right direction; I'm just not so sure the DC will be around to experience it. -
MGR: Cal @ North Texas Photos [UPDATED 9/3]

Thank you @Cerebus -
The Good - Can not overstate how good of a job JP Headley does with his snaps. He is good! I was also very impressed with Noah Rauschenberg's leg strength. No doubt's on his KO's going out of the Endzone. The Bad - We had one of our worst punting performances in years. On the bright side, between the terrible punts and, luckily, having a kicker with a strong leg, we didn't have to find out if our coverage teams could also not tackle.

We could have done a much better job bringing in transfers more suited to the 3-3-5. One of the concerns voiced early on the fan boards was that we did not have the players on the current roster to run this formation. Hindsight is 20/20, but Morris and company failed to address this, and yesterday reflected this. Like the Dodge era, we saw what can happen with an inexperienced DC. Even Seth realized as an Air Raid tree coach, a little too late, it was better to find someone to run the Defense and stay out of their way. Sadly, we did not learn from Dodge or Seth and were mainly focused on the Offensive side of the ball.

Good points. IMO, we will not build a roster that competes against the better G5s and lower P5s with HS talent. We should be looking at somewhere between 70-75% transfers.
-
I agree, but Jared was left with a shit-show of coaches whom Wren should have parted ways with. We're all upset, but a year ago, most were very vocal that we would not be competitive in the American with the staff in place and the talent level. Wren should have made the change at the end of the 2021 season. I am willing to give Jared a little leeway on cleaning his house.

I am all in favor of going heavy with transfers as we try to build and be competitive. However, we need to understand why, historically, North Texas has done a terrible job with transfers. Before Morris, before Seth, and before the transfer portal and NIL, we have never done a good job of attracting transfers compared to schools similar to ours. So, head coach aside, we need to look deeply at why players are not coming to North Texas.

Are there any backup O-linemen with any size we can move over to the defensive line? We need bigger bodies taking up space. I'm not sure what can be done in one week about the pathetic tackling. Maybe time to have some starters experience the bench-life if they can't tackle.

Our AD made a MASSIVE mistake with this HC hire
El Paso Eagle replied to Travis's topic in Mean Green Football
SUMG brought up a good point that Grant lost his first home game to UT Rio Grande Valley. I'm not happy either but maybe some of us had our green glasses on for too long and thought this team was a lot better than we might be. -
Will give him credit for not spinning the results and starting off by say it starts with him taking a look in the mirror.

Officially in the no room to say shit zone
El Paso Eagle replied to El Paso Eagle's topic in Mean Green Football
And we get pissed when other people talk about teams from the American that might have merged with the Pac-12 and we were never in the conversation. -
We as UNT fans might want to step back a bit before we make comments about any other teams.

****OFFICIAL CAL va. UNT IN-GAME DISCUSSION***
El Paso Eagle replied to Coach Andy Mac's topic in Mean Green Football
I think the reality is hitting how little Talent this team has. We have been a #Hit6 team against CUSA talent and it seems like almost every time we play someone outside of the mid pack G5's we are exposed. -
Maybe they will adjust but if you're going to run a gimmick defense and you're going to hire coach with no coordinator experience and you don't have the Personnel to run that type of gimmick defense we are seeing the results

Starting to think even Dodge's DCs would be embarrassed by this team's tackling. -

Dude, it seems like you moan and groan and bitch and whine more than anyone. Since you showed up, you've acted like you are doing UNT and the state of Texas a favor by gracing them with your presence. STFU.- 433 replies

Not at all, just with the portal teams can turn around quickly. Cal has 9 or 10 transfers starting and another 8, or so playing today. -
