Was that before the NCAA agreed to the 12 game schedules? It most likely will not happen but it would be great to see NT, SMU, and TCU play each other every year.

El Paso Eagle replied to stebo's topic in Mean Green Football
My old school. Robert E. Lee (Defending 5A Division 1 Champs) a.k.a. Tyler Lee outgunned the Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade Madonna Lions 34-28. The game did not end until after midnight dud to a kick off after 10:00 pm due to storms in the Tyler area. -

Does it seem strange that post “666” was a complement of PMG??????

This is a great point. While Mike Price gets the head line here in El Paso and across the region (and he does deserve them), another very important change in the Miners the past couple of year is the level at which they are paying their assistants. This past summer Michigan State tried to hire away their DC but Miners were able to be competitive enough to keep him.

UNT vs. LSU delayed television broadcast

To me the key is to get them both on the field. So the question might be, since they can both run so well, who can do the better job of moving around? I think that PC might be the better of the two at moving into the slot and receiving short passes.

Let me start off by saying this is another of the really stupid things the NCAA has done. One question I have, since there is a license for NCAA apparel I assume the NCAA gets a part of the revenue. This being the case I am sure that the NCAA is as of last week refusing, or at least turning over to the Native Tribes any monies from the sales of products associated with these schools?

Going at QB would have to go with Hall. The others mentioned are all good but you need to match the QB to "Dickey Ball" and Hall did a good job.

The problem for Hawaii will not be football; they will always be able to schedule 8 or 9 (or more) home games if they wish to. Also, they will always have the tie-ins with the Bowl Games in Hawaii. The problem for Hawaii will be in the men’s non-revenue sports and the women’s programs. The cost associated with any conference to travel is a killer. That’s why in the end they will most likely stay in the WAC (mainly because the WAC, if it stays together as a conference) will not kick them out.

Based on a lack of football related news, and the always ongoing speculation of where the Mean Green might end up one day, here are some guesses based on “what-If” in the next round of realignments all conference are forced to go to 12 teams so that each conference has the Conference Championship game. Why do I think this might happen? First it generates revenue and second, if you cap the number of conferences it controls the number of moves from 1-AA to 1-A. Conferences currently (2005) at 12 ACC BIG 12 CUSA MAC SEC Others (number of 2005 teams) Big East (8) Big 10 (11) MWC (9) Pac-10 (10) Sun Belt (8) WAC (9) POSSIBLE REALIGNMENTS Current BCS Conferences ACC – No Changes SEC Would like to get rid of Vanderbilt but that does not seem likely. If Arkansas should look to the Big 12 Louisville might be an option. Big 12 Possible losses – Missouri (has shown interest in the past in the Big 10) –Colorado has shown interest in the Pac-10 in the past. Possible Add - not sure but the potential is there for Arkansas, could also look to Colorado State Big 10 Possible Adds - Would love to add Notre Dame, Missouri also a possibility. Coluld Penn State leave? Pac 10 Possible Adds – If they stay in the region – BYU and Utah, could look to Colorado (don’t forget at the time of the Big East Would love to add Notre Dame. Could also see the possibility of adding Army and Navy. Louisville and Pittsburg could move to one of the other conferences if their success holds up. I think they might then make a run at some of the “old” C-USA teams – Memphis, East Carolina, Southern Miss – Central Florida might be a good move to pair up with South Florida. NEXT IN LINE Mountain West The teams that would seem to fit are Boise State, Fresno, and UTEP. While Hawaii might sound good the travel expenses for the non-revenue sports hurt their chances. Would the Mean Green make a good travel partner for TCU? THE REST CUSA, Sun Belt, MAC, WAC Based on the current number of 1-A schools there are 34 schools left. At best a couple of current 1-AA’s move up to give you enough for 3 conferences. In this case my best guess is these 4 are rearranged into 3 conferences (also would not be surprised to see Hawaii become an Independent). The other option is that several teams return to 1-AA and perhaps only 2 conferences come out of the 4.

Do we stand a chance at the MWC?
El Paso Eagle replied to GreenEddieNT's topic in Mean Green Football
Replace UNT with UTEP - That's my guess for the next moves by the MWC - UTEP, Boise, and Fresno -
Euless, Not trying to get into a pi$$ing contest, but don't sell NT so short - Look what JJ has done: 1. eased up on us playing the top 25 in round ball and getting the crap beat out of us. Thanks for admitting were playing an easier schedule and not wining more games 2. Lost about 5 or 6 games by less than an average of 6 points. Those could have been wins (but were not) Lost 5 by 7 or less, BUT using this logic we also won 8 by 7 or less 5. He is slowly bringing in better players.....you have to remember that UNT is a MID MAJOR. Oh, the favorite fall-back for anytime NT does not succeed. Does this mean that when we are successful it’s because were lucky? By the way – the other teams kicking our butts in the Sun Belt are Mid Majors also!!!! 6. Who do you recommend getting....and for what price???-----if you say you don't know or there are plenty of people out there---ok---then who?? Can’t name any you want to take a chance on? So you don’t think we would get applicants if the job was open? Didn’t we turn away Billy Gillespie (sp) – (UTEP, now A&M)? When the position at NMSU opened they had no shortage of applicants. 9. Give JJ a chance...he comes highly recommended and looks like he has some very good players coming in. Takes time to build a team...cant be done in one or two years. Please see reference to Billy G. at UTEP and A&M

This is an attitude that NT fans need to stop accepting!

I hope you aren't trying to say that is what I said.

This is not something you blame on lack of support- we need to quit accepting that statement as a blanket reason when any NT team does not perform. This is not a case where we are facing Top 10 teams and we do not have the athletes or talent to compete. Bottom line is we are not performing on the court and ultimately (and I realize this is a stretch for us) we need to hold the coaches accountable.

Not a question that I can answer but with all the concerns being raised regarding the hiring of minority coaches why are there no comments raised about the “star” minority athletes not choosing to play for a minority coach? Let face it D-1 football is a BIG business and if schools start seeing a competitive advantage in the caliber athletes they are singing because they have a minority coach you would see a sudden and dramatic increase in the number of minority coaches.
