---If DD left at end of season---
El Paso Eagle replied to eulesseagle's topic in Mean Green Football
For those who want DD out so bad they can taste it I have bad news. The University is not going to fire him for the team’s performance this year. SO even though it may feel good don’t be the one to start the www.firecarreldickey.com web site. Your efforts might be better spent creating the site www.hiredarrledickey.com web site since the only way it looks like he will go is if he takes another job. -
It might be easy for a coach's wife to go on boards when her husband wins 10 games a year
-
Arkstfan, Good points. The one that hurts us the most is the fact we are 1 of 4 in our Bowl game where Marshall was 3 of 4. Until the Belt grows a bit more the teams in the Belt will be noted more for how they play in OOC games.
-
Please keep in mind Price’s base is in the mid $200’s – Where he makes most of his money is in the incentives - WHICH ARE PERFORMANCE BASED. The biggest of those being based on his ability to motivate the fan base and get season ticket holders and individual game tickets. I would not mind seeing DD get a big bonus tied to getting fans to the game. Also, Price’s assistants are paid a lot more than the previous coaches’ assistants. However with their success and the turn outs UTEP is still bringing in more money. In fact they are finding out that they can bring in more money for home games against mid and lower level teams than they can playing the “money” games on the road.
-
Question - Are we rebuilding into a team that can and will compete in OOC games, or the team that only seems to perform in Sun Belt games?
-
Harry, Your points are valid but the fact is that the team’s total failure in OOC games only highlights how poor the Sun Belt has been. If it is agreed that the Belt has been the worst 1-A conference then the success DD has obtained has been tainted. This is highlighted by this very thread in as much as the “pre” Belt years are left off.

Any chance Young goes Pro????
-
This brings up a point that the announcers (Dave and Craig I believe) made during the game. They liked it when we got in the hurry-up O’ and made the comment that with a young QB sometimes it’s the best thing for them because they don’t have enough time to think about what’s going to happen, instead they play on instincts. If he feels comfortable running the ball and he’s being told to hold back so he can stay on the field is this putting extra pressure on him?

Anybody Watch DD's Interview @ Halftime
El Paso Eagle replied to UNTLifer's topic in Mean Green Football
These are good points and the emotion shown by the coach does not mean they will succeed. However, the fact is the program at UNT need to not only build a solid foundation on the field we need to build up the fan base – Gets butts in the seats!!! And I realize it goes against the grain of many who like to say “real fans will show up regardless……..” but it would not hurt if we had a coach who had the personality and charisma to win over the casual fan. -
I would say it depends on the conference the JC is in AND if you plan on having to play the Freshman. In a case where you need to play the Freshman and have no experience I would rather go with a JC

EagleD - For tonight you are evil (I am a Lee Grad)
-
Euless, I agree at the time it looked like the belt was a better conference, but it now looks as if that was more of a goods sales pitch than anything else. Look, I have o problem keeping DD (for now) but we must demand improved OOC performance.
-
ANOTHER way to look at it is to note the "change" in success once we joined the Belt Who is to say that Parker or Simon might not have had better records if they stayed longer - ESPICALLY if they had the chance to compete in the Sun Belt
-
Eulesseagle, With all due respect you lose all credibility for you post when you start out by saying you are not counting DD first years. Parker and Simon also came into programs that were hurting. Why did you not pick and choose which of their W’s and L’s to count? The strange thing about numbers/facts – if you use all of the information it has a basis to be used or considered, when you start manipulating the numbers it looks a though you are trying to hide the truth!

What is the Coaches Responsibility
El Paso Eagle replied to El Paso Eagle's topic in Mean Green Football
61- That raises the question – this is not a new coach or a program that has not been successful. I’m not saying were at the point where we can “reload” but with DD’s success the last 4 years why do we have to count on so many inexperienced players? -
Let me start off by saying that in the company I work for I am responsible to ensure that I have my people crossed trained and have a back up plan for every position. That does not mean the back up is as good as the primary person, but if they need to step in they are experienced. That being said, our lack of experience this year is not a surprise – it was mentioned last night that we have something like 23 or 24 people who have played this year with no previous 1-A experience, we knew it was coming. I realize that the most pressing thing is to win now, but what responsibility does the coaching staff have to make sure the lack of experience does not impact the team they way it is this year?

All you DD lovers - I have a question?
El Paso Eagle replied to GoMeanGreen1999's topic in Mean Green Football
Hate to spoil the party, but is it just a coincidence that DD’s success started with the first season of play in the Sun Belt? I will give him all the credit for having the best program in the Belt but don’t act like he has achieved this success against quality competition.
