  1. If his statement is for real or not, that's getting close to the attitude I hope our guys have this year and every year. I think Dodge has it in his that if his schedule says "play Superman U.", then he'll do his best to get his guys ready and himself ready. That kind of mindset that he can play at their level and find a way to beat them, and if not, scare the crap out of them in the process.
  2. "MURPHY! MURPHY!" Wow, I thought our school had problems, but none of them potentially put the university at risk with a contagion. Thank goodness that lethality is so low.
  3. I'm doubtful about Meager. He looked good at the Spring Game, but I'm worried about what's going to happen to him on gameday. It seems like he gets really jumpy on under pressure and overthrows or underthrows the ball, or just gets hit. I'd almost rather that the QB try to run the ball and gain or prevent lost yards if he can't read the coverage or if he gets jumpy. I'm still behind Wilson here.
  4. That's outstanding! It really shows the caliber of coach we have by the caliber players he's bringing in. Also, here's the Fab Five:
  5. I'd say a little from each column.
  6. Johnny F'n A' Quinn. He seems like a disciplined and smart player. That translates to great training habits and a great receiver record. Class act all the way.
  7. The team being in black uniforms once or twice a season won't change that. ESPN won't call them the "Mean Black". The black jerseys were done before Dickey (as we've seen proof of that) and it won't kill anyone if the team gets really nicely done uniforms in black. As long as the team uses their usual uniforms for most of the year, it's fine by me and it shouldn't be causing a big stir.
  8. I remember the all-white uniforms and green helmets. I never, ever liked that as the away uniform. They look like white PJs.
  9. DD being the one starting the position won't matter much when it's Todd Dodge's team that makes the wins that get the press coverage.
  10. I think he sleeps. There are reports that he does, in fact, require sleep. Now, this conflicts reports that his superhuman talent is fueled by a special chamber (provided by a race of superhuman football coaches) he only spends 10 minutes a day in. I could be wrong about him needing sleep, but I'm sure his superhuman feats of football-coaching-ness take great strain on him.
  11. My girlfriend's mom used to go to Big Town, reportedly. Before the demolition, it looked pretty sad.
  12. Then the NCAA should be consistent, just like mentioned by myself and another GMG poster. The NFL should probably do something about the Redskins while we're at it.
  13. They let FSU go, thanks to the Seminole (actual Native Americans) speaking up for them. Illinois isn't really the same class that FSU is. The Illini are good in basketball but they're no football school, and they don't draw the kind of attention FSU does.
  14. I think the message is entirely correct. Unless there's a gross misstep in the justice system, then I think we won't have to worry about wrong charges. To the players, it says, "Don't get in those kind of situations, you're an athlete, and if you're an athlete on scholarship, then someone else is paying your way through college, and you have a responsibility to those people to NOT misuse the opportunity. If you have to ask if it's 'okay' or 'legal', it's probably not. Rather to be safe than scholarship-less."
  15. 1. The NCAA's only gonna pull this crap on schools that don't rake in the money for them. This policy, as previously stated, is inconsistently enforced, and unfairly enforced. Sadly, it's the NCAA doing two things: covering their butts from the lawsuits, and ignoring the problem when the pursuit of the policy costs them more money. It's crap. 2. This whole radical muslim/redneck talk is totally off topic. It's probably gonna get this thread, and to be honest, there's no easy answer. Coming after all Muslims is a mistake and will get a lot of innocent people hurt. Ignoring the problem is also going to get a lot of people hurt. I would doubt that any of us here (unless you're a military security analyst) are entirely qualified for this. There's a lot of culture to go into and two entire denominations of the Muslim religion to study. Many of us don't know every working of our own religions much less other religions, so it's best to just not mess with it, at least, not here.
  16. Come on now, Dodge may actually like the facilities he has, and maybe...maybe he's a good enough coach that they're learning the system!
  17. They showed that poor SMU QB getting nailed as he did his 3-step drop.
  18. Just finished the show up. Here's what I got from it: Looks like Dodge has picked two starting recievers: Brandon Jackson and Casey Fitzgerald. Not that this is a shock to any of you. He also talked about 6 WRs he's picked up. TD sounds really confident in the team he has right now. "Big and young" is how he described the offensive line, "Tremendous competition" is what he said about the QB's. Hayden Fry and Coach Dodge met up Monday, and I'm sure that was a good thing for him, as well as his meeting with Pres. Bush. Our coach presented himself really well and he is definitely a good representative of UNT, and would be even if he wasn't the football coach (OF THE CENTURY).
  19. What's Dodge thinking? "Gonna kick these guys in the teeth and show 'em I mean business."
  20. Somewhere between 20-25. About 3 seasons' worth plus a NOBowl.
  21. Keller HS is being forced to do the same thing. Sadly.
  22. Sometimes, I think the people pushing for this Indian name change stuff aren't Native American. Sometimes, I envision these folks as suburban, caucasian folks who don't know a single Native American, and aren't thinking in the interests of Native Americans, but thinking in the interest of the school or NCAA and trying not to get lawsuits or bad press.
  23. This is now, and has always been, BS. No one chooses a mascot name because they want to make fun of or embarrass those associated with it. It's not like ASU or anyone else with Indians as the mascot, chose that mascot because they want their team force marched off their playing field and massacred. I'm sure it was chosen to draw some of that fighting spirit, independence, and hardiness Native Americans are known for.
  24. Isn't North Park Mall one of those older malls? I call it "The Castle" and it underwent a really, really major overhaul in the last few years and it's a fantastic mall now.
  25. North Town thread Found this when I was looking for photos of NorthTown. You're right though, these emptied malls are a major problem when they're no longer being occupied. A structure that large can be great when it's used, so many good things can come out of it. When it's abandoned, just as much bad can come from an unsecured and dangerous structure. I'm worried that when Golden Triangle closes down, it won't be taken down and replaced in short order. I don't think it'll make a great impression on incoming when they see ruins of a mall when they're here for freshmen recruitng. Hopefully the city council realizes that Denton depends on the universities for a lot and they'll do something smart to remedy the situation at the mall. Most of 288 is great to look at, I'd hate for people to skip that area.
