Good show, mike. We got those, in what...2004? 2005?

The North Texas Battle Flag... I like that, and that's what I've known it to be called by. If not that, then something grand like, "The Flag of North Texas" or "The Emerald of Texas" would be pretty nice, too.

Bryan has shown mastery of the (photoshop) force! I thought that EA has released official templates for all 4 consoles, but I could be wrong. Just make sure you send him something with a good resolution, something like 300dpi or a jpeg with dimensions that are in the 4-digits in size.

They've got current gen versions of NCAA 2008. They don't have the same features, but from what I read, they didn't just spit something out for this year's version.
-
This is a fluff punishment. We already know that unless the NCAA gives them a sudden-death penalty, they'll be able to recruit as they please based on program prestige. Also, they already have bowl money and the emotional impact from the wins as well as any other intangible rewards. Worthless words from the NCAA, I think. They were almost better off just letting them go, it'd be a whole lot more honest than this.

Yup. UL-L is the "big" UL campus. UL-M is their equiv of UTEP or UTA.
-
Uhm...I guess they got some great OL's right there. Great for pancaking. Seriously, I hope they're really, really, really fast. If they only weigh about 150, a guy weighing 200 crashing into them is gonna HURT...hope they dodge well.

Who knows...my bet is that there's a great secret organization that just clones out these kinds of folks. They all seem the same, I swear it. I can't really figure out how someone gets into that kind of money without at least a generation or more of at least some money behind them. ...Unless you're a D-1A football coach.

So he could've played at UT...just not at QB. Most of us knew this, but the important thing is that he's coming to play for our team.

Did We Miss A Chance To Add A Stadium Fee?
meangreendork replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
I'm not saying UNT has to be cheap, paying for an education at UNT isn't "paying little or nothing". What I'm saying is that SHOULD not have the same cost as other schools. Some people view UNT as a glorified community school, which it's not. UNT can find a good rate that gets the right funding in to all of the departments without cutting an arm off of its students. Say, if UT's 15 hour tuition was $5000 a semester, then ours could be something like $4000-4750 (I'm just pulling numbers out for the sake of illustrating my position). People's viewed value of something isn't solely based on what they spend on it. For something like "experience" (which really is what school spirit is based upon), it's more about what they see and feel. When I first came here, I saw Dickey's old program being pretty shoddy and I saw what was left of the previous AD's administration. Trust me, I wasn't that big into what was going on at UNT in terms of its athletics and therefore, I was about as spirited as a brick. But, once I saw the program improve and I saw the students get behind RV, a better DD, and Dr Pohl, I started to believe in the school because those big guys did. I've been hooked ever since. It's about perception- and when DD was in gear, students got into what UNT's spirit was about, and when DD started to flounder, so did the support. Now, you can see it surging again with Dodge. With a better program comes more donations, more spirit, and a better program. And you can do all of this without charging whatever the other super-huge schools are charging. You're assuming I'm riding the "far inexpensive" end of the spectrum, and I'm not. If you ask Bryan316, I'm usually trying to find the right place somewhere in the middle. UNT needs funding, but it shouldn't raise rates so suddenly and at such a high rate that it discourages potential and current students. Think of it as suddenly jumping residential taxes by 30%, it'll be upsetting for residents of a city. If it's done gradually, you can get what you want without scaring anyone off. And besides that, you can see what UNT's done with the money it's had, and it's shown all over our campus, and those buildings are great. They really should have kept that increase as it's probably what would've been smart to do. It seems like it's in the right place. -
Talk about your overnight success, right? What I like about this situation is that Dodge has the capability to properly coach the QBs on our roster now, and he can make great use of their talent, which means solid QBs for the next 1-2 seasons from Meager/Wilson/Phillips. Then, we have Vizza and Dodge coming in which not only makes us deeper at QB, but it makes us deeper with great talent that'll be ready to go when their time comes. Looks like we have that security at QB that we've always wanted.

Very true. If UNT can get an undefeated season or seasons with very high W/L ratios, then the polls will start getting behind UNT and bringing the rankings up. That should mean BCS bowl in pretty short order. If that doesn't work, then continued success at that level will mean conferences will start calling UNT with invites, and continued success in other conferences will mean BCS bowl.

I'm with Rick. The QB talent is there (heck, the overall team talent is there), but the right coaching staff is in place. I think...I'm almost certain we'll see something new and great in a few months!

Did We Miss A Chance To Add A Stadium Fee?
meangreendork replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
Because the other major Texas universities already charge an arm and a leg, that's why. Part of the attraction for UNT is that a student should be able to get a really good education without having to have mom, dad, and their cousin's neighbor's aunt 4 times removed take out 178 mortgages to pay for school. Heck, that's part of the reason I came here. Now, that's not to say that the school shouldn't charge what they weren't going to charge...that's probably not a bad hit, but I don't think UNT should knock tuition to say, UT's rate. I also don't think that what you pay a professor really correlates to the level of school spirit that they have. I think it's their own personal preferences that do it, and the school's own academic performance and athletic performance that determines that. Heck, I'm sure there are profs at Michigan that don't care much for Michigan football and never will no matter how they're paid because they just don't like football. Besides which, UNT still has great professors. Frankly, I thought UNT's campus wasn't all that bad in 2000, and it's gotten nicer since then...or haven't you seen the library mall? Haven't you seen the new dorms? Maybe you've skipped the new Health Center, the new Athletics Complex, Rec Center, the NEWER dorm being built now, and all of the other buildings that have popped up in just the last 2 years? -
Can Someone Confirm This Or Is It A Fluke?

Funny how de-committing from a school somehow means you're slower, weaker, and not that great of a QB. -

I don't think everyone trying to save the old Fry Street was associated with these jokers. -
Fry Street: Set On Fire By Students
meangreendork replied to UNT_playmaker's topic in Mean Green Football
The Tomato, as much I really loved eating there wasn't such a huge deal that it had to go down in a funeral pyre. Yeah, I had some great memories there, but the area being renovated isn't like the government taking away my right to own guns or speak as I please or something else that would warrant forceful disobedience or violent protest. This was stupid. Incredibly and utterly stupid. If it was those high schoolers who did this, then the ones caught have just about ruined their lives. They've also destroyed an area that has memories that've been around longer than they have. If it was UNT students, then that's a terrible disrespect to Becky and Ski as well as any UNT student (former or current) who really liked the Tomato. Makes my blood boil at how needless this was. -

No matter what you think about the Fry Street buyout, arson wasn't the way to handle this. I liked the Tomato as much as everyone else did, but to torch it was stupid, disrespectful, and a major waste of taxpayer cash. -

Hmm...that'd be weird then. I wouldn't think they'd have much appreciation for the area. Not that they've shown it with this. -

They better thank God that other businesses in the area didn't also catch fire. It'd be more stupid than it already is if businesses still running were damaged or even destroyed by this. -

meangreendork replied to UNT_playmaker's topic in Mean Green Football
I heard about the protests, but if this fire has something to do with that, it's not the right way to protest the situation at all. I don't even think I'd protest a civil rights issue with arson (until it got to a really bad place) much less something like this. If people want the shops and restaurants from Fry Street saved, they should donate or something more constructive -

I'd think. I got the picture from the TV show website. -
If some kids back out, that's expected. I'm really happy to see the volume of quality players and the approach the new coaching staff has. If we lose some, I'll be disappointed but I won't think that will kill our season.
