Very true. Before Todd Dodge was a twinkle in his father's eye...that time period's incarnation of UNT was green and white. Wish people would get that UNT had white helmets with stripes on them for decades before we took up the green helmets. This goes back...20 years or so before Mean Joe's time at UNT.

It's like going on a date or going to a party: If you look good, you'll probably feel better. And we all know that a lot of what determines a game's outcome goes on in the player's heads, so this totally makes sense. I wonder if they called Iowa Hawkeyes the "Iowa Steelers". And for that UNT-SLC crap, we've had the white helmet/green jersey thing for years, long before SLC even existed.

Nt Earns "a" On Gender-equity Scorecard, #2 In Nation
meangreendork replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
That's nice. So how about that next men's team? Maybe the revenue can bring more money for another women's team and make it all nice and even and TitleIX okay again. -
No shock here. But I wanna see a huge improvement and I'm certain TD is the man to do it.
-
And our school is. But those aren't the people choosing the slogan. As far as I know, anything related to the AD is probably handled at the AD, and the AD doesn't really go looking to pick up kids from the design program. Also, the URCM doesn't do AD work unless it's stuff put into the North Texan.

Dodge Never Cared Much About Pre-season Polls
meangreendork replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
No coach should care about pre-season polls, but many do. It's good that TD doesn't because all of the rankings for #1 in the universe don't mean squat when your record is 0-12. I think there was a talk about this on ESPN radio between one of the radio hosts and the coach at TCU. -
Sun Belt Negotiating For Second Bowl
meangreendork replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Shouldn't it be the "Papa John's Pizza Pan"? No, but I really like the name "New Mexico Bowl". It sounds better and more prestigious than "Random Corporation Name" Bowl. -
Good statement, sir. The buildings themselves were in pretty shoddy shape, but I think the businesses themselves got the ugly end of the deal. We'll just hope they'll find new homes around town. Now, the older buildings would've been nice if they got restored, but they were in that bad condition if I remember right. Unfortunately, it looked like the new developers didn't have the old businesses in mind to that end. Now for socialism- it, like many things in this world, is fine and useful to an extent. Public transportation, limited workdays, etc, have some place here. But total control of someone's earnings, total media control by the government, and the like don't have a place here. And yeah, the Muslims do have a reasonable goal if they stick to what's supposed to be there- which is a Muslim state in the Middle East. Unfortunately, that's perverted by assorted radicals and twisted to become a total destruction of the Western world...which isn't part of what the teachings were. It's sad stuff that religious fervor becomes hate. You could argue that Christianity's goal is to overtake the other world religions and that's got its share of radicals as well. Depending on which sect of Christianity you dig up, the only difference between them and radical Muslims is a bomb strapped to someone's chest. I've seen some "Christians" (in quotes because I don't think Jesus or God would really approve of their methods or statements) wage serious hate against homosexuals and anyone else that doesn't side with them. It's pretty sad, too.

This seems pretty true. If you think about it, the win margins got smaller every year, and if you watched at least the home games, you could see every year that the gap was closing between teams. You could see USU, Idaho and the rest closing, with some doing it slowly, and others like Troy, closing fast and overrunning UNT. The timing was in UNT's favor and it was capitalized on just enough to win the SBC. DD was there at the right time, but I think any coach would've done the same, and many would've done more.

It's about where we stand when you calculate the bowl appearances AND the shoddy seasons. I'm not shocked to see this ranking, but I wanna see it get better soon.
-
Yes, I think we all know that Fouts is like your first car...beat-up and old, and as much as you love it, it's not gonna last much longer.
-
It's okay, I'm just as confused as you are. I'm guessing that whatever heavy-passing scheme we briefly saw last fall is now Dickey's new bread and butter offense.
-
"Dickey" and "Wide open offense" in the same sentence? Maybe he's stopped running all 3 downs.
-
Pardon me if I still don't trust Meager after having seen him play last fall, no matter what he looked like in the Spring Game. I used to think he'd be a great mix of speed and passing, but most of his passes were under or overthrown last fall, so I'll wait on calling him a starter.
-
That's a surprise, I guess. I'm hoping that TD and the new attitude can get us back into the top half and then into the top 25.
-
Doesn't really matter now. The white ones are just as good as green if they match the unis well.

From a minority point of view... Any lawsuit leveled against that councilman is utter trash. Now, I think he could've handled it with more class (more for his own PR, not to respect that punk kid), but he's telling the truth. That kid IS a punk and needs to be thrown in jail, and his mother IS doing a piss-poor job of parenting. There's no threat in that letter, just a prediction of that kid's bleak future. His mother is a bad joke of a parent and not only does he need to see jail time, she probably does as well. If I were an African-American, I'd be embarrassed by this. This sort of irresponsible parenting and stupid behavior on both the kid's and parent's part is the kind of thing that makes the rest of the American public think so badly on African-Americans. I also read that news link, and there are some people blaming the situation on (you guessed it) white America. Now, I understand that being poor and from a deteriorating urban environment means that you're given fewer opportunities than the rest of us, but myself, being the stepchild of a black man from that kind of background, I can say that those limits can be broken. There's a part of me that thinks urban African-Americans should take responsibility for their situation, stop blaming thuggery on their environment, and stop trying to feel so entitled...that entitled mentality is the same thing that ruins behavior of the rich kids, too. Dangit. Being poor is only an excuse for some of that kind of behavior. My dad came out of the same thing and he's helped get 2 kids through college, married a woman who's about to attain a master's in education, he's gotten a laundry list of his own degrees, put away a 20 year career in the US Army and any number of accomplishments. That's proof that an African-American from a poor family can do more than just sell drugs.

Notre Dame To Play Home Game In San Antonio
meangreendork replied to Green Means Go!'s topic in Mean Green Football
That's a good way to say it. If a team needs to play against a DIAA team to "practice", then it probably just needs more practice. As for the DIAA teams, the worst part is that they probably need the money from these games. The way I see it, and the way another post said in this thread, the game should be played at the DIAA field. -

And not just 7 or 8 home games, but with 2 or 3 games against D-IAA opponents. It doesn't show me how much of a bad@ss your school is when it's trouncing D-IAA schools it shouldn't be playing in the first place. -
Has Anyone Seen These Helmets Before?
meangreendork replied to caliuntfan's topic in Mean Green Football
They look like they'd be for the team. Physical ability records, team overall goals...yeah, I think these are for the team. As for our unis, I bet these will be the nicest uniforms ever fielded by UNT. And that's how it should be. GMG! -
The Rec Center parking situation can be a mess if you like to go before 7 or 8. A few summers back before they built that new student health center by the Rec, I parked there on a Friday at 3pm during MayMester. There were nothing but open spaces in that lot (short of UNT-owned vans), most classes in May back then ran until 1 and didn't have Friday sessions...And I got a ticket. Point is, I always waited until after 7 or 8 during the longer semesters, or went when I was already on campus. Walking to and from Fouts wasn't too bad, but it was a hassle, especially when it was cold.

This is what I want the public to think about these games, and the statement made by UNT at each game: OU: "North Texas and Todd Dodge didn't mail it in. They fought for 4 quarters, bloodied OU's nose and showed them they mean business." SMU: "Last year was no fluke, and the DFW area has a big and scary candidate for the college team of the DFW. SMU had better start paying for its players again." Navy: "UNT is for real again. They've stepped it up against their OOC opponents and won almost all of them. No matter who you are, you better expect a big fight from the Mean Green."
