Fitzgerald Honored For Record Night
meangreendork replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
This begs the question: could our best RB in UNT history, Patrick Cobbs have served in the offensive scheme we have now? I also don't know about the hamstring being something this chronic. Maybe there's something inherently bad about his motion that causes that one muscle to act up? That's my only thought on that. I would like to see him on the field, racking up yards either through the air or by running it. I'd like to think he could be used as another reciever, too. -
Wish we could get Jonas B and Craig Jones to come back and help our secondary learn to do their job. I remember the Jonas Buckles hit a few years back where (I think) some poor kid from NMSU got plain hammered ... BLAM! The ball popped up into the air, the NMSU player laid on the ground for a few seconds, and Buckles stood up, walked off, and crossed his arms across his own chest to celebrate having "killed" the WR. The guys that played under DeLoach were something else, huh?

I'm with you. The defense this far into the season looks pretty weak, and I know it can do better than it has been. I don't know if it's the players or if it's the coach that's at fault. Either way, Mendoza needs to find a system that'll work with the players he does have. The major worry is the defensive line- they can't get pressure up front, and you can have the best secondary in the world, but they'll still get burned up by good WRs and QBs if the defensive line doesn't start pushing the QBs around.

Makes us all want to get a prenuptial agreement, despite how much it supposedly says "we don't trust our wives/fiancees". No, it just says, "I don't trust your greedy friends and your lawyer." Anyways, this NBA ref did it to himself. It's making more in a year than a majority of GMG users make, so he was simply being greedy. Unfortunately it bit him hard, and it took a chunk out of him too.

Okay, okay...he did do this to himself. But for her to demand a majority of their assets...isn't that a bit much? Unless she actually owns a majority of these assets, shouldn't she only be entitled to half at most? I've had talks with folks about this sort of thing before but I think divorce law in the US could use a serious overhaul.

I'm a bit sad since our guys didn't win. However, I think the game went very well, and I'm pleased with the team.

I've seen this a million times from the track at Fouts...and it's the cheerleaders. Plain and simple, they're trying to get noise from the crowds when the QB and the rest of the offense needs to focus on what they can hear...QB audibles, audibles called from the defense, and of course, SNAP COUNT. Someone should have a talk with the cheerleader coach. This is about the ONLY complaint I've ever had with the cheerleaders.

I Must Have Watched A Different Game Than Many
meangreendork replied to gangrene's topic in Mean Green Football
DM did his job last night, and it's easily said that the WRs did an outstanding job. I know he threw some poor passes late in the game, but come on, he's throwing more passes in one night than UNT QBs have probably thrown in 3-4 games...translation: HE WILL BE TIRED. It's almost unfair to expect someone to not be tired after throwing as many passes as he did last night. About 5min into the 4th, I was thinking it was time to put Vizza in for at least a series or two to let DM rest. As for who to blame for the loss, it's a little bit of everyone's fault. Bad OL penalties, bad passes, missed catches, and a few missed defensive opportunities. If anything, it sounds like any other game with a close loss. -
I don't have a lot of bad things to say about last night...mostly because I think...wait, no...I know Dodge and his staff and the players probably already know what mistakes were made and how to overcome them. 601 yards in passing, the overall score, and the comeback are definitely something to be proud of. I was extremely happy about the game last night, despite the loss. I'm also just shocked at how incredible DM looked last night. I know, I know that SMU is weak against passing, so if anything that means he'll put up at least a few hundred yards against any decent team. And judging from the radio broadcast...it sounded almost like home game. Lay off Evyn, he made good decisions and played with HEART. Our defense was good, the offense looked great, and only after a few weeks of real practice. I'm looking forward to see what happens in the next few weeks which I think are bye weeks.

I spent the hours from about 9am-6pm yesterday slugging up hills and rucking 30lbs of junk on my back, and I'm still worn out and spent...I don't blame our band AT ALL for not being in full uniform. Even though I spent all of last week water-loading, I'm still spent and dehydrated. I think it was a safe decision to keep the band out of uniform. Unless someone wants to PONY UP the cash to get the band uniforms more suited to hot weather, I'd suggest that we all keep our mouths closed about uniform decisions. They sounded good, and that's judging from the radio broadcast. ALSO Im glad they're playing Holst's "Mars" again on big D plays.

I agree. Roman is not a guy I want to blame last night's loss on. He's playing out there with a ball of fire in his heart, and some smart decision making in the returns, and he was hitting as hard as guys with 3 extra inches and another 50lbs on them. He's a good player, and with some time and the coaches we have, he'll be a great player. Tommyp, the defense is still jelling right now, the offense is still jelling right now. Heck, the adhesive on the helmet decals is still drying right now. Here's the thing: Last night showed what kind of improvement we can look for in the team, and that was just a week bounceback from the loss at OU. This isn't the same team that was in Norman last week. This definitely isn't Dickey's team. I didn't like the loss last night, but I am definitely convinced that Dodge and his staff can do great things with this program, and that's just this season. Frankly, I was as happy with last night's loss...almost as much as a win. I know that the coaches will bring the guys in, get them up to speed on their mistakes and have them correct them ASAP. It's not that us bandwagon-Dodge fans expect him to turn around the program instantly, but that we know he can turn it around, and that he will.

I'm with you. I can't really count the OU game since it was basically the first real trial for everyone in the football department and because (judging from the Miami game) OU is just that good this season. Last night (even through the radio broadcast), I could tell that this year's Danny Meager is NOT last year's Danny Meager. DM and the WR corps lit up the sky last night, and even though SMU's pass D is weak, 600+ yards passing converts to still outstanding numbers against any school with a decent pass D. So maybe those who said DM needed the right coach and the right system were right. Then again, I think we all agreed that the players last year needed the right coaches to do their job at their best.

I still stand with our guys. OU came out with a fury after being humiliated last fall by Boise, and they didn't want to look stupid again. It just so happened, we're the team they start the season with. Also, the spread offense and the pass-heavy style gave OU a ton of chances to score. I still think our guys can trounce SMU. OU came to play for real last night, and Bob Stoops probably didn't like hearing about Appalachian State beating Mich at their house. Honestly, there are a ton of reasons why our team didn't look like we wanted them to, but I don't think any of them are attributed to bad coaching or lack of effort on the player's part. Dodge still has to undo a lot of what DD did and also has to play with some of the guys DD recruited, whether that be for the better or worse.

Volleyball Drop 3 Straight At Shocker Classic

Could be like Gonzaga in men's BB. In the case of VB, just like Men's BB, a conference doesn't really pre-determine the performance of a program. Just like BB, a VB program isn't nearly as pricy as a FB program, so you can do more with less. -
American Gladiators

I watched the original show as a kid...I hope they bring back The Gauntlet and that other event with all the guns/projectile launchers with the gladiator behind the auto-tennisball cannon. -
Iowa State Allowing Fans To Pick New Helmet
meangreendork replied to Green Means Go!'s topic in Mean Green Football
They could just put the old logo on a white helmet. The new helmet candidates look a little too old fashioned and too plain for me. -
I watched part of the Summerville and some other something-state school on ESPN2 for a bit. Now that college football is here, I'll probably shift to just watching that and a few NFL games.

Awesome to hear that while the plans for the new stadium are coming together, they're not forgetting to do their best to put on a pretty show at our current stadium. About the website colors: Don't freak out on that...computer monitors (like Adman said) aren't that great to match colors on since different monitor settings, different monitors, different video cards, and sometimes, different browsers may show colors differently.

Stadium / Fund Raising Idea

What is this? Syracuse? -
BAW...poor you. I've never had a problem there. It is sorta-kinda Mexican food though...comes with the territory.
-
I think this game will really rely more on the defense than anything, but I'm one of those people that doesn't think that you can outscore every team you play without the D showing up. I'm hoping Willis looks as sloppy as he did in the last SMU game, or even a similar performance; I got a feeling our secondary and LBs are better than they were last fall.

Mr. Chopsticks is kind of an icon...but a place that's catching up is the Uncommon Ground Sushi place and the sister shop on Loop 288. If you guys are in Denton and wanna try something interesting, check those places out, and if you don't like raw fish, they've got a good amount of cooked dishes, too. Another good place is that Hooyah burrito place in Carriage Square.

Our Olympic basketball team better have its act together next time.

Yeah, but at least the Spongemonkeys were kinda funny, especially before they became a Quizno's commercial.
