  1. I'm hoping it brings Dodge's team together and it probably will. The guys that work hard and stay sharp seem to be getting rewarded and praised.
  2. There's nothing wrong with questioning someone, but there's something wrong about that erupting into violence.
  3. This is another big challenge for the defense, but it's not one they can't overcome. I think that Navy's running will be hard to contain, but if you saw their game earlier against Penn State, you'll see that their passing game is no joke. Of course, this is all led by their QB, who's most definitely a guy that can pocket pass and run the option. Contain him and his running backs, and he'll never get a chance to look downfield for his receivers. The defense has to come into this game with a head full of steam and a belly full of fire to win on their side of the ball. The offense will have to really burn air Saturday. We all know Vizza's got a big rifle of an arm, he's just going to have to avoid turnovers and only run if he needs to. I have big expectations of our spread-O, and if that becomes successful, then expect some good running to keep Navy honest. Again, expect our guys to fight tooth and nail to win, and expect a high scoring game, despite the defensive performance of UNT and Navy.
  4. Hey, I got my degree and can't yet afford to get the rims by themselves much less the Caddy.
  5. It's a parenting issue, too. My younger brother used to listen to the same "rims/shoes/clothes/hoes" music that the guys on his HS BB team listened to but he never fell into that trap. Actually, I came home for his HS graduation a few years back and after he got home from that graduation party he went to, he actually complained about those same kids that fell into that trap. Him and his roommate love hip/hop and rap music, but to them, it's just music, a clothing style, but NOT a lifestyle. What kept him from following that path? Mom and Dad raised us to have more ambition and more discipline than that. Our parents set a good example in almost everything they did. They started when we were young and as we got older, they were able to let go a little bit more each year until they stopped worrying about us (except for being broke college kids or getting sick) altogether. That's the difference- parenting.
  6. Dangit! Can I get a consolation prize?
  7. If this were a racial issue, I'd expect the other minority players to speak up as well, but it hasn't happened and probably won't. I'm with the posters here saying that this is at root, a discipline problem.
  8. Thank you for this. I am where I am now because of what the NAACP has done. None of it has been directly in my favor, but it's what they did for my parents. Sadly, racism still exists and that's why, as often as I might disagree with the occasional NAACP or ACLU case, I like their presence. As for those of you placing so much blame on the media for what's wrong with America's youth. I'll tell you what's wrong with America's youth...America's parents. It's up to them to set the pattern for their kids, monitor what they do, watch, eat, and listen to. No amount of media restrictions, government intervention or anything from anywhere else is as effective as good parenting.
  9. Probably TFLF. You know, because if he does it, it's entirely the coach's fault. Never, ever is it the player's fault. Ever. Ever.
  10. You're right. The best players and gameplans are entirely worthless if the players aren't disciplined enough to follow instructions. The best gameplans and teams fall victim to teams that play as a team and have the discipline to continue doing so. Who provides the discipline? The coaches, and this is done through interpersonal, one-on-one interactions and through group interactions, the same ones that happen everyday at practice and that should be carried to and from the classroom. None of this happens in the film room.
  11. Sounds like this is, in fact, a personal discipline problem...not a race thing...and a problem that the coaches AND players are trying to handle. Lonnie? Rebuttal?
  12. As a DB---that'd probably mean leaving your coverage zone or leaving your man to try to grab an INT or something to that amount.
  13. Well, go in there and fix it. I hope TD knows what he's doing and that he's got a handle on all the crap the rest of us are throwing conjecture at.
  14. Discipline on the college level is STILL discipline at the college level. The players are older and are expected to have a little more composure and discipline, no matter the division of play they're in. I don't know what the NCAA division they play has anything to do with this. I also don't see how time period has anything to do with it either...when the coach or another player legitimately calls you out for a bonehead play and corrects you, you handle it. Period.
  15. All we do is play golf, tennis and maybe soccer in college. You know better than that!
  16. Seriously, right? I think this game will be close, judging from what I saw in Navy's last televised game. Yes, they are small, but they're very fast and that can kill our D. Then again, our offense is very fast as well...if the TOs are kept to a minimum and if Navy's punter won't kick the ball to the 1-yard line, we'll win. Yeah, I said it...if MTSU's punter weren't so damn good, Saturday could've been different. MTSU needs to thank God or whomever for that kid.
  17. What's that have to do with the current allegations of racism? And besides, why would you bring that in now? Of course we're gonna be mad as hell if TD only racks up 6 wins between now and end of 2009...wouldn't you? And what, if TD has an incredibly win-heavy record at the end of 2009, what are you gonna say about it? I think there's more to the story than we all know. I just want this to blow over really fast, I don't want this hanging around for the rest of the season and ruining recruiting and anything else it could damage.
  18. I was driving back from Houston last night and I was trying to catch the game on 88.3 and I didn't get squat about the game from it. Someone does need to bugger KAFR about doing their job down there.
  19. That's elementary coaching. No matter how good of a coach you are, there's always a maximum performance you can get from your players. The good thing about Dodge is that he's ALREADY drawn in good players and he'll continue to do so.
  20. I would hate to lose Dodge. Assume he loses every game for the rest of this season, I still want to give him another year. I think he's got the right recruiting draw and a laundry list of other qualities that can do great things for the university. Heck, he's already done some great things in just the few months he's been here.
  21. He didn't say that they were needing to toss out any staff. He's thinking the same thing many of us are: that the staff is learning and the curve might be steep for some. The good thing is that almost all of us agree that things will get better... ...and the best thing about it is that the upside to this new coach after his "retool" time is a lot more than that of the previous coach.
  22. Can't really blame anyone for last night. People got hurt and MTSU was able to get incredible field position the entire night, not to mention the safeties. You can't even really blame anyone for the safeties---it's hard not to have them happen when you start on the 1-yard line and the QB takes the snap in the endzone. Our guys fought very hard last night, and that's why the score was where it was and why the stats were what they were. I hope our guys stick in there and keep fighting all season.
  23. Every year, something crazy happens. It's the influence of those palette gnomes. I am, however, waiting to hear a story about someone dropping their car keys or phone down the through the stack.
  24. I've been building a bit this year- from what I saw before I had to go last night (so I could be a grown-up and work this morning), they were close to complete. Mind you, this was at 10pm. It looks as big as it usually does and the weather, aside from being cold and windy was alright. The rain held up some things Monday but I gathered from the actives that it didn't slow them down to any sort of real deadline problem. Translation: Looks good. Real good.
