  1. That's a douche move on that donor's part. Withers did okay at UNC but did very well at JMU. I'd say he's a good pick. The best? No. But he's shown he can win with a less than stellar situation and fierce competition at UNC, and he can definitely win with smaller resource pools and the reduced profile of an FCS program at JMU. He isn't the shiniest pick in the world, but he might be what TxST can afford and he might even be the perfect fit, too.
  2. They're unstable as hell right now, I can't imagine he'd want to go into that circus.
  3. I'd think so. Passionate about the program, passionate about the university. Has a bowl ring on his finger to boot. Can't see anything wrong with that.
  4. He read Roesthlisberger like a giant print book, great pick. It was made better with Robertson's footwork and the blocking his teammates gave him.
  5. Pretty sure that Nick Saban knows more about choosing a QB than everyone on this board combined. Morris is a high probability success - he's a transfer backup from a high-caliber P5 school, not a transfer who was a backup at a G5 program.
  6. Maybe it's the right fit, like he can't spread himself out so thin as a HC but DC and *only DC will work. I don't think I'd put him out there for recruiting. Best of luck to him, though.
  7. If anything, it prevents workout-related injury.
  8. This could be a big steal and one hell of a coup if he is in fact headed here.
  9. I feel like UT and Cumbie are the factors. Strong seems to want Cumbie down there so I bet Patterson had to break out the big donor wallet to keep Meacham. I assume (and just assume) that we couldn't beat their offer so we didn't try? If I were in Patterson's position with my two OCs about to be poached, I'd be in people's offices asking for money try to keep them both or at least one of them.
  10. I feel like it'll be some rando HS coach at this point.
  11. I don't think we got a list of actual, interviewing candidates. I think we just woke up one day and got press releases.
  12. Unless there are photos of Meacham and RV sitting together over Jimmy John's to confirm RV's single-handed role in landing Meacham, yes.
  13. It looks like he's been sidelined or figureheaded for this coaching search. I also feel like the president will understand that our new HC's wall of skins and more importantly, wall of recent skins means the coach knows more about running a football program than RV.
  14. Seriously. If Frank the P5 coordinator, and then UNT coach gets grabbed up to coach a P5 program, then that coach clearly was doing the job. Which means wins. Which means better recruits and therefore, more wins. And that means good odds of another successful coach coming and repeating the process. Sure beats being here in 4-5 years hoping we get a good coach to get us back in the win column again.
  15. Not that an FCS coach hire did Ohio State any good or anything, right?
  16. Pretty sure Briles was never interested in the UNT job in the first place. That said, I'd be totally OK with him coaching here.
  17. Let us not forget having a great DC, RV. If Mac, Dickey, Skladany and Dickey's one great DC had anything in common - and had right - was that you gotta have the sort of defense that can do more than stop offenses, it should be able to create turnovers and put its own points on the board. I want a DC that has that sort of philosophy and the resume to back it up.
  18. Horton could be a good grab for us. Success at Auburn and at Arkansas, recruited and coached top RBs for both schools, recruiting coordinator, as well as having been a WRs coach. The big sellers are his time at successful SEC programs and more importantly, being a successful recruiter. I'd worry about him having trouble with recruiting at "our" level, but he seems like an alright fit. I wouldn't hire him off the bat, though.
  19. I got no problem with a run-first offense but you've gotta have a QB to throw effectively. While I'd prefer a coordinator over a positions coach, he might have the clout to attract other good coaches and thus, good recruits. Auburn is no slouch of a program.
  20. Depending on location and western power forces in the area, I'd attack it. Hell, I'd see if I could score some air assets to fly over the no-go zone to wrap in with some ground vehicles for a massive assault. Post some other ground assets around it and its major centers so I could also mow them down as they ran. Then when I run my monthly Daesh propaganda rag, I'd talk about how stupid the coalition powers were for putting targets so close me and so close to each other. Then I'd yap about how this is what the western powers want - they wanna send people to camps in the desert to die. Worse yet, people would totally believe that.
  21. I've seen some of that. It's tough being what's basically a political moderate and the sort to think big picture/long term because you're the first target of people who are really rooted in emotion or ideology to apply their thinking to practical situations.
  22. Seriously. His whole act screams out, "hey look at me, I'm the best Christian ever!"
  23. Until his coaches show better results across the board, of course.
  24. I think the lines that went something like, "it's us vs. the fans" and, "it's difficult to recruit at North Texas" are why not Dickey.
  25. I've seen racial profiling and this isn't it. Nothing like, "you match the description" or, "you don't seem to belong here." Just basic questions. And asking her to stay on the sidewalk or close to the side of the road. She messed up with the editorial and she messed up by dragging UNT into this. Now we've got her mess and the mess of a whole lot of other people involved.
