  1. Shamrock if he decides to actually go the full depth of what he knows. Slice doesn't have as impressive a record, mainly because he doesn't have an impressive gallery of previous fight opponents.
  2. Dodge has brought us some very good talent that Dickey would'nt have ever been able to bring in, even after the SBC rings and NOBowls. And yeah, we can't expect a turnaround in a year or two. Weren't we the same people who said we'd give him 2-3 years so we could see what his recruiting classes could really do and see what he could do with the right coaching staff?
  3. Anyone could've told you that. Many of the other SBC schools are going into OOC games and landing big punches if not scoring a knockout or two. You could see the parity of the SBC vs NT in the two post-Baylor-blowout seasons get smaller as the victory margins got smaller. The other schools got better recruits and better coaches while NT didn't. ULM, Troy, and MTSU basically closed the gap.
  4. Research, man. Seriously, it takes more than "relaxing credit restrictions" to cause what's happening now. It's a combination of adjusted interest rates at the FED level, the reduced restrictions you mentioned, predatory lending practices by any number of financial institutions, borrowers taking loans they didn't properly research or decide upon, corporate level greed, and the US government not stepping in fast enough. And even the government not stepping in fast enough is the fault of every member of the House, Senate, or even the Federal Reserve. Seriously. I think America as a whole, (myself included) needs a bit of a lesson on living within its means.
  5. Everyone's pointing fingers at everyone else and this really pisses me off. I kind of think this isn't really the time for this sort of stupidity to take place. I figure there may be more important things to argue about than "who's fault is this?" and at least move on to the "now what do we do?" arguing.
  6. The bailout wasn't supposed to all $700B at once. I gathered it was supposed to be phased so that in eventuality, not all $700B would be needed. Mind you, I don't think the mortgage lenders and the suits that allowed this to happen shouldn't be given a free ride away from the fire, the economy may need a fairly large correction now. And as this pertains to both presidential candidates - their programs that involve tax cuts or more spending on anything are in pretty serious danger now. With a bailout, money may not be there to pay the programs. Without a bailout, the economy may not have the money to pay for all these programs. I'd say we need a balanced budget, but that's like 10 years from now.
  7. That's true. That's not to say this isn't a tough season. I think the most important we can do as fans is to keep supporting the team, to show up at the games we can show up at, and those of us that are students or know students, get that bill passed. If it's tough for us to watch, it must be tougher to be a player and see it firsthand or as a coach, knowing your boys can be far better than this. Yes. And all parts to do that are coming together. We wish they'd go faster, but they're on the way.
  8. Very true.
  9. Clements is also older, more experienced, and has had more time in training than Vizza. Seeing as how they came from the same school, I would say that explains why Clement is a better QB at this point. Though honestly, Vizza looked fairly composed for most of the plays and he delivered balls pretty well until the score became out of hand.
  10. Absolute truth, and if they're not thinking this way, they will be come Monday practice. Both these guys are definite character coaches. They know what they're doing!
  11. You still didn't address McCain's infidelity. Besides, no one's saying Clinton was a man of character, which is why we're not saying that now. And furthermore, why are you asking him if he's married yet? So...yeah, how about that answer? You know, the one where you tell us how you handle McCain being unfaithful to his wife? That answer, where you actually apply yourself and tell us all how McCain's infidelity fits into that picture of character? Going to let us know how it is that McCain's character is somehow still impeccable? That the way he treated his wife is still acceptable and still makes him this shining beacon of morality? Well, you do that and let me know how that works out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIc0EKvwJkQ
  12. He's also being expected to make a 180 turnaround of a program in roughly two years. It's taken other coaches with bigger programs with bigger budgets and better recruiting ties longer to do that.
  13. True. Plus, the O was doing okay until the D starting handing over TDs in the 2nd quarter. So, in terms of the coaches being "good enough", they are. But I'd say a lot of what's happened tonight probably rests on the player's shoulders.
  14. One of two things happens next week: The team shows that it's pulled its head out of its collective-whatevers and thrashes FIU. Why? FIU isn't that good. The team should be able to beat them handily, if it's down to talent. OR The team goes out and mails another game in like they did tonight. They could've won this game, if it's just down to talent. Because this wasn't about Rice being as good or better than UT or Tulsa or LSU or whomever. It's team committing stupid penalties, making serious mental mistakes, and losing its pride LONG before the game became out of reach. You wanna know who beat our team? Our team beat our team. All Rice did was show up.
  15. DeLoach just got here. Give him time.
  16. Then the question is begged - is it then the players? And if so, is this still a product of the players Dickey left behind or is Dodge's recruiting also at fault?
  17. You should've slapped them in the mouth.
  18. Aside from that neck-injury risk, I say we go and try to steal that kid.
  19. It's important to pay attention to every angle. So while the site isn't top priority, it should be one of the highest. There's a reason why many companies put so much effort into their online presence.
  20. That's what I've been getting at, despite not looking up nomination dates. But yes, they should've done this before. Why they didn't, I don't know. But maybe some people who buy into global warming think that the efforts of that environmental organization will eventually reap far greater benefits. I mean, let's separate the politics of global warming from this and make it a "saved 3000 Jewish" vs. "spreading the word en masse about global pollution and environmental issues". Maybe you're okay with this, but I like the idea of breathing air that isn't polluted to crap and back. I'm just gonna call you out and tell you that you posted this because Al Gore's attached to it. Had it just been the IPCC you probably wouldn't have paid any attention to this.
  21. <- UNT Art Dept (Design) graduate here. Okay, see...there's this phenomena in the design world that tends to ruin really great design. It's the client. And not like the clients all in general. Or even in the case of UNT where the creatives will meet with a whole jumble of people. It's usually one or two people in key positions (usually the decisionmaker) that are totally ignorant of good design. It's the same thing that keeps really cool concept cars from the 1980's never got built so we instead got the 80's model Thunderbird/Cougar. Sometimes you can get really good work with a client that's more concerned with something being effective than one that's stuck with some sort of ill+pre-conceived notion of what's good to have. Or its like when a auto body shop knows that a certain add-on or paint scheme is gonna look stupid, but they do it since the client is dead-set on their stupidity. Mind you, the unt.edu site is okay, but my problem isn't so much with the visual design so much as it can be hard to navigate. But yeah, most of the folks that know photoshop from UNT came out of the photography or design departments. Yay. --- About the UNT Athletics Department and its design in general --- I think it's awful. I'd love to jump in and improve it, but I have this horrible feeling it wouldn't matter because I won't be making the final decisions, but some random dude with marketing or business major will. --- About the job posting --- This is more an internship-thing, though you probably don't want to trust your internet presence to an intern. I mean, it should be paid for, and ideally, this is a fulltime kind of job, too. I don't think it's a desperation move because I wouldn't think their AD would be this broke. It's an internship, so...yeah. They'll probably get hit and miss applicants, though.
  22. My bad. I thought it said something to the amount of the award being jointly awarded to her AND Gore. Actually, that year's award was jointly given to Al Gore and the International Panel on Climate Change. So actually, the award was given to Gore and another organization. Sorry Rick, but it's more than just Al Gore this time. It's other people putting in time for something they really support. But as for my comment: As in, they can't really turn around and give an award on a given year to someone simply because they died that year. It's something similar to some of the film and music awards where someone dies - they don't give them an award, they give them something else to honor their memory. So it's kind of hard to pre-emptively give someone an award, and it's even harder to turn around and give someone's award to another person like that. They should've given her an award before her death. Probably sometime closely after her story became public, I would say. And for global warming (here I go landing in the middle again), most of the evidence I see points to a cyclical warming trend that the Earth's climate undergoes at semi-regular intervals. The last "ice age" (for lack of a better term) happened prior to or around the 1250CE and up until like, 1500CE. Roughly. Basically, this sort of thing happens as the Earth's water supplies circulate in and out of the glaciers and ice floes of the world. Now, we haven't and probably won't hit anything like a major, worldwide ice age for another few hundred years. But seriously, global warming is more a cyclical occurrence of the climate. Same as the El Nino, same as the usual hurricane and rainy seasons, just with bigger spaces between. However, don't take that as an excuse to go throwing extraneous chemicals, hydrocarbons, smoke and whatnot into the air because that can and will harm us. That's increases in localized ozone (trapping heat), putting more chemicals in our own lungs, and damaging our environment in general.
  23. It was a joint award, and the Nobel Peace Prize committee probably didn't set an appointment for Sendler to die. Actually they probably should've presented her with an award far prior. I would say her work deserved the prize long before Gore got into politics.
  24. Keep in mind that these folks are generally uninformed. It's one thing to have all the information and say, "no, our university's priorities are not just football alone, but other sports that do not get any use of the facilities." Or, "our future students' already limited pocketbooks should be used to pay for academics only, not a gamble on a football stadium." It's something else to be ignorant of how the system works and say, "I don't like football, so I don't want a stadium."
