Depends on what someone's conservative or liberal about, really. I'm a social liberal, but not entirely a fiscal conservative...and it wouldn't matter with this $750B bailout anyways since the tax cuts will be pretty meaningless. It's just a matter of what kind of economics you believe will actually fix the problem, and since I'm no economist, I won't say I know whether Keynesian economics will work here or not.

Last I checked, he was intending to improve the US military by actually increasing the amount of soldiers and Marines. There's supposed to be training for more than just warfighting but also the sort of COIN stuff you see being done on the ground now - that's delivering everyday supplies to the locals, assisting in their everyday affairs as well as the usual security work. There's also supposed to be upgrading and replacement of older, but still useful gear or older gear, depending on the situation. In short, an all around approach in terms of ground combat assets, advanced manned and unmanned air assets, and even making changes to the way the US military operates at sea by adding smaller, fast-deployment ships. I mean, I could be wrong, but I'm going on what I'm reading on the website he's put up and from his own statements.

Heck yes, UC Berkeley.

Just to humor people, I looked and found: - Stevens did endorse Palin - There was a campaign ad planned out with Stevens in it - McCain said he should quit, Palin asks him to do the 'right thing' - According to MSNBC, Stevens is close with the former governor of Alaska, so the Stevens/Palin relationship is "wary" - Another source says that Palin and Stevens' Alaska cabins are similar in design and that the materials are from the same company - The same source says she came in on a PAC that Stevens was close to when she started in politics - The company that built Stevens' cabin, Palin's cabin and the Wasilla sports complex are all the same and are close to both politicians, and neither cabins are cheap nor fast builds It's all loose ties at best since the company is one that's basically like Home Depot of Alaska. Mind you, I still think Palin does not, in fact, know what God thinks, that she is not ready for public service, she's also not intelligent nor articulate enough to be in office, that she's got ethics problems, and I'm upset at her personal use of public funds, and I feel like she's as fake and power-hungry as Hillary Clinton. But I think the Stevens thing is really unrelated, or loosely at best.

Art Or A Hate Crime?
meangreendork replied to UNTLifer's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
I was going to get to the Obama food stamps, but thanks anyways. I'd call that racism, along with some of the statements coming from the radically far-right side of the political spectrum. However, I won't call this hanging of Palin anything more than art in bad taste, if art at all. FYI: Art grad, Obama voter. But to get to the question of a hanging Obama? Yes, that could be racism depending on 3 things: - goal of the person making the display - perception of those viewing the display - perception of those reporting the display to the public If the person building the Palin-by-a-noose display intended this to be art or not, it's still in pretty bad taste. -
Biden sounded about on the spot to me...I don't see where he messed up besides sounding a little ticked off at the questions being asked of him. I don't know about calling Obama a socialist when the US is kind of already there with Social Security, an existing tax system, the "you're a resident of Alaska, so here's a pile of money" bonus. We're not suddenly going to be overrun with KGB operatives, and capitalism will still be what runs the US economy the same way it always has. I don't expect to see a T-72 tank rolling down the street with a squad and a half of the Spetsnaz strolling by with AN-94s in hand come February.

Yes. I like Dodge and all, but if there are nothing but blowouts this season, Dodge may have to go. It's one thing to pitch morale victories and close games, but not 28+ point deficits. That's inexcusable.

On that TD run of his last night, he didn't give up until his knees and shoulders hit the turf. From where I was on the track, he looked like he punched the last few years in on his toes and fingertips. This kid is amazing. And the fans. Good God, I love these fans. The team is 0-andwhateverthecrapitisnow, and we still have a good crowd. I like that, and what I'd love to see is that big crowd grow with a winning team. We would've loved to have a crowd like last night's when we were ruling the SBC. I'd love to see what a proportionate crowd would like on as the team was on its way to a bowl game.

Corrected smartly. Okay, quality coaches, then?

It's not really that simple. Back when Meager (your son) was the QB, many of us figured he'd be the complete package QB much the same way we think Vizza is now. But the OL back then seems like it is now, and it's not giving the QB time to look downfield. Meager ran for his life on more than one occasion and threw his share of bad passes because of it. It's pretty much the same problem now. Don't get me wrong, I like the fact that Dodge is getting really good skill position players, but relying solely on them to win the game is something you can only do on "planet playstation". Dodge or whomever replaces him, has to get the right guys up front because in reality, a strong OL can make a horrible QB look good. How much more if that OL has QBs with the ability to scramble or pass like Meager, Vizza, or Tune or Dodge?

It Is Time To Begin The Next Coach Discussion
meangreendork replied to shaft's topic in Mean Green Football
Thanks. Hmm, he's only been here for what? Just around a season? Even if he was allowed to call his own defensive schemes, he doesn't have the manpower he'd want. Furthermore, if all he's allowed to call are EZ-Bake oven defensive schemes, can you really blame him? Really? -
Well, then this all goes beyond what's going on at gametime, it's more or less a coaching issue. If Dodge isn't the guy, then who? If you ask me, I say we give Deloach a shot since there aren't exactly a list of people wanting to coach at UNT.

It Is Time To Begin The Next Coach Discussion
meangreendork replied to shaft's topic in Mean Green Football
If he goes winless this season (possibility, by easy odds), then I'd expect RV to bring him to the office for a "little talk". Though, I don't know who would step in. I'd almost say DeLoach just comes in at HC. -
I think it's telling that you still need to shut up and wait.

That's basically what they did. Too bad the hit is worse for the GOP than it is for the Democratic party. I think mainly because of the particular choice. A whole host of far-right politicians are out there, and not all of them sound remotely as uneducated as Palin does. And even Biden is skating the line between acceptable/unacceptable himself.

Interesting

Wait, wasn't it already brought up that Berg's source of information was Wikpedia? -
Someone sounds awfully butthurt. You tell me how we're gonna fire Dodge mid-season and then fund his buyout AND fund hiring a new coach. Oh, what's that? Silence. Okay, so wait until end of the year, kick Dodge out and pay for his buyout. Oh, I forgot NT has a strained athletics budget and probably can't fund that. I figure you'll be able to pay the buyout, right? Maybe even find a replacement coach, too. Oh, you can't. Sounds like a case of, "you need to shut up and wait".
