History In The Making
meangreendork replied to KRAM1's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Hey, I voted for him since he was black. Then I was upset to only find out that he quickly changed his skin color around post-election. Sneaky bastard. -
Was Bush Really That Bad?

It's all probably a sign that politics in America needs to be revamped or something. And that's on BOTH sides of the red/blue fence. -
Was Bush Really That Bad?
meangreendork replied to stebo's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
I never had a real problem with Bush until he more or less mismanaged the 2nd Gulf War. And by mismanaged, I meant that he didn't give the inspectors enough time, he didn't get enough international support, the post-war strategy was flawed horribly, and the logistics to start the war weren't entirely in place. The case for the war was already building against Iraq, especially when they started turning away the inspectors and suspicious actions and movements were being reported. Then, Bush went hair trigger and rolled in, guns-ablaze. The initial military conflict wasn't that hard, but those in handling the strategic end of the war never really planned for what to do when it "ended". That's really the MAJOR problem I've had with Bush was that he didn't really plan that war out properly and he took bad advice from the wrong people. After that, we had some of the various homeland security/personal privacy invasion policies kick in and I wasn't ever a fan of that. Had he given his case at least 3 more months, the international support would probably have been there, and if not, the supply and logistics would have and the post-war strategy could've been developed more. His impatience is really what doomed his public opinion, and that led to a lot of the negative press and the unbalanced media coverage of the war. Mind you, I was worried about Bush taking a 2nd term, and I was really worried. But like Stebo said, the country managed to keep itself upright and the checks and balances more or less worked. Bush didn't do what so many of the far-lefts thought he would do prevent an election from happening by calling a long-standing state of emergency, he didn't start a draft, and while the profiling against Muslims is something I am VERY not fond of, we're not all in detainment camps. Was Bush bad? No, but he was a good few steps from being an excellent president. History will treat him a little bit better because some terrible things happened while he was in office and he wasn't exactly 100% ready for them and though few, if any, are, he could've done better. -
For that Black lady - it depends on how you see it. It's really, really easy to see it in Rick's way and in John's way. On my first listen, she sounded hopeful. She also doesn't sound entirely uneducated, either. So really, this depends on who says it and who listens. Since she sounds like she could be an already responsible parent and worker, she could be saying, "I won't have to worry about the gas prices being really really high and I won't have to worry about employment/mortgage crisis/predatory lending/adjustable rate problems..." But, if one were to grab someone of less education, they could say, "I won't have to worry about gas since it'll be free or dirt cheap (or something, I dunno how that one would work). And I won't have to pay my mortgage, etc." I think the first is more likely since this woman doesn't seem horribly stupid or uneducated. That's not to say Obama supporters aren't stupid in their own right. I spoke with one in Denton the other day, telling me Obama was gonna pull everyone out of Iraq as soon as he gets inaugurated and that McCain was a babykiller. I damn near slapped her for that. Mainly more for the McCain statement than the also totally incorrect Obama statement. As for that 2nd one, yeah, that's pretty obvious. He's trolling...and it's funny to see it in action.

New York Times Article About The Drug Article
meangreendork replied to Green Dozer's topic in Mean Green Football
That's the odd part. I'm guessing Dodge is doing the good-guy thing for the players with the drug habit by putting them through counseling. Will it work? I don't know. Was it a smart idea? In theory, at least. -
New York Times Article About The Drug Article
meangreendork replied to Green Dozer's topic in Mean Green Football
I'm glad Dodge had the whole team tested. That's good of him and it needs to be done. However, I don't think the team's overall performance is the result of drug use. That could explain a missed tackle or a player fatiguing early...but not an overall performance drop. -
About the only people throwing that in there are people who are pretty far right wing. Seriously. I don't see the "lefties" on GMG doing it, and more often than not, if someone's saying "Barack Hussein Obama" they put extra emphasis on "Hussein". JayDub doesn't do that, I don't do that, Bryan316 doesn't do that, emmitt doesn't do that, JohnDenver doesn't do that, JesseMartin doesn't do that. I'd say it's the far-right wing doing that, and it's generally to link him to being Muslim. I mean, it's why people starting doing it in the first place. Also, you did a great job of handling everything else. You know, the whole carbon emissions thing, and how McCain also has a policy on it (which is good, and why I was leaning in his direction before, since about 90% of his environmental policy is rather sound), and how the article Palin was going off about had been available in the public domain for months.

It's like the emails and random craigslist postings that tell us about how some random scheme in Kenya is going to net us $1000 or how Bill Gates and his charity are going to get us paid for every email we send. We'll wait and see. But I would figure something legit would be all over the news, especially tonight.

Yeah, there are. It won't be possible to take down and replace the hundreds of coal plants in 4 years. Also thanks for reminding us that Obama's middle name is Hussein. I mean, it's like my last name being Young, just in another country. I mean, I'd say that's trying to remind us Obama's a Muslim, but he's not. And even if he is, is there really a problem with that? The US Armed forces have between 4000 and 12000 Muslim servicemen and women, and some of whom have died overseas. You want to tell them you won't vote for someone because you don't like their middle name? Yeah, I didn't expect so. You don't want to vote for Obama based upon his policies and his viewpoints? That's fine, and I respect that. But if you want to tote the "Hussein" thing around, I can't really be okay with that. That's the same foolishness as if I didn't want to vote McCain because he was a "babykiller" in Vietnam. In the public domain for like, 9 months or something. http://cdn.sfgate.com/blogs/sounds/sfgate/...a-interview.mp3 The internet archive has had it since March. http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://cdn.sf...a-interview.mp3 1.) McCain also supports carbon emissions cap/trade policy. Which, is basically THE basis of pollution with coal plants. 2.) It's actually a great idea to knock off coal plants over a longer span of time because it's pretty much impossible to make them 100% clean because there's still release of carbon dioxide no matter what happens to the sulfur dioxide and other released chemicals.

TOBE NWIGWIN!

While I am VERY, VERY happy for the win...I wish we weren't getting our first win at WKU. I wish they'd won at home. But hey, congratulations nonetheless!

Are you really trying to draw a cause/effect relationship here?

Stadium is on it's way, the student support is growing, I like this. I like this a lot.

No, it's a serious issue, so I'm with you on that. The short of it in terms of abortions is that I'd rather that they not happen, but if need be, then so be it, etc., etc., on abuses and personal responsibilities. Stem cell research is something I'm for, but mainly in the situations where the fetus is essentially going to be lost anyways. It's kind of in the same boat as organ donation. If I died and I was still somewhat useful in terms of body parts, then harvest away, as I won't use them anyways. As for stem cell research on a wider scale, I don't much like the idea but it's one of those things I've had to make a trade-off for in choosing candidates. In short, either go with McCain and Palin who would seem to be trigger-happy with an already stretched-far-too-thin US military where we're looking at loss of human lives on both sides, but also massive military expenditures as well as geopolitical repercussions, plus the indefinite timetable for Iraq, and while great work is being done on the ground - the Iraqi people need to take responsibility for their own government / essentially overturn Roe v. Wade and take choice away from people...or go with Obama who would support more diplomacy before involving the military while also expanding it / deal with the possibility that abortion laws will be abused (like any other law) and the small possibility that we're looking at human cloning for the use of stem cell production. I don't see mass production happening as there are too many who oppose it. I don't see a ban on firearms happening as Obama already stated he wouldn't start yanking guns from people, and that too many people, like myself, like our firearms. It's like when people freaked out about a draft - I didn't see that happening as that would basically be a political disaster and really thin out the quality of the military. We'd have to have a civil war for a draft, really. That about covers that. About the whole ACORN thing, McCain spoke at one of their rallies in 2006. I'm not so much hacked off at McCain being there (it fit his agenda and he was there for a good reason) but its how he's gone from "Man, I like ACORN, I'm gonna speak at their rally" to, "Man, I hate ACORN, let's smear them into the mud for my own agenda". Pick one, McCain, just pick one. The good thing here is that no matter which presidential candidate wins, I think the US will be okay. Provided that Obama keeps a fairly centrist leach on Biden and that McCain doesn't roll over and die while he keeps his centrist leash on Palin.

As much as I don't like the idea of that method of abortion, I guess I'm looking at the bigger picture here, which is really a gradual erosion (by legal precedent) of right to choose and that this procedure was really intended to be only used when a full birth will risk the life of both mother and child. The method, mainly the suction of the brain, is really to ease the passage of the aborted fetus, as gross as that is. The final responsibility of this choice really rests in the hands of the mother and (in some, though not all cases) the father and those close to them. I wouldn't support the ban either if I knew it would put mothers and medical staff in a situation where both lives will be lost when applied in a blanket and generalized manner. The downside to this is that people will abuse this procedure. However, and most importantly, the abuse of the choice to abort at late term shares similarities with other abuses in that the responsibility and moral weight rests on those who make the final decision. Were I given the choice between my wife or child given the odds that neither will survive, I would hate myself, but I would choose my wife. I would hate myself more if I were to lose both.

Wish we'd get the modern version of that with the new green and the Son-of-Worm on it. It would be sweet! Or at least the Son-of-Worm on white.

If Dodge does turn it around, I'm expecting what we got from Dickey but with more OOC competitiveness, maybe even breaking into the BCS a year or two after the first few SBC rings and NOBowl appearances. And maybe 10 or so years down the road after that, a new coach, better players and the same success that the big Texas 3 enjoy. That's the kind of turnaround I want to see. And if that doesn't include Dodge, then so be it.
