  1. That's what makes this so difficult. We see women as equals. They see women almost as second-class individuals. Both groups see their views as what is right and it would be difficult to convince either side to change their stances. I don't believe that the Saudis are quite as civilized and forward-thinking as they would believe themselves to be, but they look at us and see the same, I would guess.
  2. Yeah, they do. I'd say that the US killing a person convicted of murder would be a little closer to the ideal 1:1 ratio of crime to punishment than what happened in the original posted article.
  3. DallasGreen: 1.) Talk to the other PC-level alumni, and see about getting this changed. See who you need to talk to in the university about getting this changed, and if you can't get it changed, then just write checks straight to your departments of choice. Avoid the middleman. It's what I do. 2.) Nice generalization about the arts/humanities/music/etc., there. Meanwhile, the Journalism program, Visual Arts and Music programs are what's getting the university recognized right now so I'd say that if it's working to get more students to the university, then let it do so. Take the good press that you can get while you beef up your weak points. 3.) We should plot to have Chancellor Jackson suddenly and mysteriously end up in Nairobi. It should solve all of our problems.
  4. I'm a moderate, so I'm realistic about this sort of thing, but always waiting for whatever new fuel source to get off its butt and break the dependency cycle. That said, it's also weird being in Texas since people assume you're a hard-right militia member or a far-left rebellion member.
  5. If you take out the fact that 9/11 attacks took place just after Carville made his comments: ...if the comments were not made public, then you do have a double standard. ...if they did make the statements publc, then it would probably have been something frowned upon by anyone with a brain. It'd be a pretty big shot-to-the-testicles to make Carville's statements public because there's a good chance it wouldn't matter when he said it because it'd seem like he said it any time after the attacks took place anyways.
  6. I say you're a Nazi and that you let it keep going. I get a good laugh or two everyday from the nearly incoherent, overly-and-needlessly punctuated posts that come up here.
  7. They're still going to, you know that. I mean, I get the environmental concern that the drilling may seriously hurt the environment. And although I'm almost always for the protection of the planet, it's one of those times where a sacrifice has to be made. You can't say we wanna stop taking our oil from imports if we don't have a viable alternative. We have some fuel alternatives like algae-based gasoline, but that's still on the horizon. Even though that fuel works, and works as well as gasoline (it's also carbon-neutral) there just aren't the facilities to use it on a national scale yet. Until then, the oil has to come from somewhere. It might as well be our own oil, and we might as well pay our own people to drill for it.
  8. The bill's been cut down significantly, with earmarks less than 1% of the total bill. Six of the ten biggest 'earmarkers' were Republicans. Republican earmarks consisted of 40% of the total per tradition (Majority party gets 60%, minority party gets 40%). Then there's about 40% in tax cuts/breaks, and the rest in the actual general spending fund. I'd say that 1%> is a good start. You know, homework and such.
  9. PETA and Greenpeace used to be something worth talking about until the real hardcore, concrete folks went too far with their causes. Like with any particular cause, political effort or party, you can't be too far one way or the other, spouting off rants, and looking like general eff-wits as you do so and expect the rest of the world to take you seriously.
  10. You sit here and blame the President for it while your own party is guilty of earmarking a good share of that money. Funny how this works. http://roaringrepublican.com/2009/03/04/re...-spending-bill/ It's really everyone's mess. The economic situation up until now and the situation as it is. Pointing the finger at just one person is really fruitless effort.
  11. Outstanding work, sir. All the talk sounds rather un-American to me.
  12. Yes. +1. Seconded. Confirmed. Roger. Good Copy. Cap approves of your message.
  13. Yes, evidently. Enemy of my enemy is my friend?
  14. Yeah, but this is basically how he's handling that question: And in his original answer: But that won't stop people from calling him a socialist, and not socialist meaning how they handle their stuff in Europe right now, socialist. I mean the version of the word that conjures up bad memories of the Cold War and Soviet-style Communism. The Soviets hijacked that word first. Then, as a reaction the US used it. But the Cold War is over and has been for quite some time. Russia is not ready to take over the world. Heck, it can't even take its old territories back. If you ask me, the big threat is China, but they like our money too much, and before you tell me they're socialist, they're more totalitarian in government and more capitalist in economics right now. Oh, I also don't like Obama because he's Muslim.
  15. Hey man, those socialists are everywhere and they're trying to take over the world with their public schools, standing military, public transportation, and law enforcement entities. And you know how much we don't like publically-funded law enforcement. Also, I hate Obama cause he's black.
  16. Yes. These aren't tax dollars or something. These are voluntary, charitable donations and need to be treated as such. But yes, agreement across the board on this weird. I'm gonna go eat a 1/2lb burger and then a block of tofu to make my day even out.
  17. We're all pretty much white anyways. Well, except for the ricers. They swear to god they're black.
  18. Lord, wtf. I think it's pretty understood that you don't need "Los" in front of everything and people still would get it. It's like when Pepsi came out with Pepsi Si...I spent all time asking if it was going to be any different, and it wasn't. I thought it was kind of a waste of money on a product everyone is already familiar with. I mean, I have no problem with being multilingual in a country you need it in. If I wanna work/live in Japan, I'm gonna learn the language. If I'm going to Spain, I'm going to learn the language. You know, "when in Rome" and such. But I don't jive well with how immigrants from Mexico are driving this happening here. Learn the language. Please. I'd feel weird about traveling to another country where English isn't common unless I was nearly fluent...how much more if I lived there?
  19. The site is run by the writer of the book of the same title. He's white, so that should make it okay. I mean, if a black dude ran a site/wrote a book and titled it "Stuff Black People Like" and wrote it in satire of the stuff city-dwelling blacks wrote, it'd probably be cool. Though, there's a whole entertainment network that's actually seriously aimed at blacks. It's called BET, and it's the worst thing that's happened to black people since the end of the civil rights movement. I'm sure MLK rolls in his grave everytime someone tunes in.
  20. The scholar is forgetting two very important things: The Roman Empire was large, even by current standards. The British Empire was also incredibly large AND separated from each other by great distance. Technology for both travel and communication wasn't as advanced as it is today. People also had fewer means by which to communicate and travel back then. Nice attempt at trolling, kid. I'm more worried about Russia splitting again. It seems to have deeper divides in it that go back centuries, and it hasn't been an economically stable country in decades. I'd hate to see the shakeup if they split again.
  21. Uh...this really isn't a big deal. Instead of paying interest over time, they're having to pay what would've been interest up front.
  22. I'm all for changing the way we handle the environment, but WTF. Though, I know you can produce a ton of paper using hemp. Actually, you can supposedly produce a larger amount of paper with hemp (by acreage or something) as opposed to using trees. Hey, I would be down with that, but not with re-usable wipes. Negative.
  23. I can support these two men having their heads on a pike.
