1. Damn. I really, really enjoyed Arena Football. I mean, it was almost as good as home games for NT, short of the fact that the Desperados had better chances of winning games. The AFL was a great league, the speed of the game was great and so was being so close to the action. I'll miss it and I hope to see it back once things return to normal. Also, thanks ESPN. The revenue money that could've come from televising the games could've brought back that $12mil or at least part of what was needed to keep an already lean-running league going. The AFL would've been fine as it really does a good job of holding football fans over in the dreaded spring between football seasons.
2. You know, as someone born in another country, but who has lived here his entire life, I think this documentation stuff is bullshit. It shouldn't matter where someone was born. It should matter that they have been a citizen of the nation for a long period of time, it should matter that they understand many of the varied customs and traditions of the US. It should matter that they were educated, raised, and lived in the us. Their birthplace shouldn't matter. I can tell you that many of those who have a great appreciation for the US weren't born here and their appreciation for the US stems from the knowledge and experience of being in another country with fewer freedoms, economic opportunities, and less quality of life than what the US had in the 1940's much less today. Either deal with the fact that he got voted, exercise your right as a voter through your appropriate representatives in policy-making, or shut up. This is childish nonsense. Stop being xenophobes and stop being poor sportsmen.
3. I'm gonna say that it's a tough situation to be in - a graduate without work. I've been there, but I also never said, "UNT didn't do enough to help me." The truth is, a degree is only part of the package needed to find a job, and right now, if she can't find work in her profession, she's going to have to ruck-up and work where she can until she finds work in what she really wants.
4. Most of SI's coverage doesn't really kick in until August. Then from August until around May, they have college, pro, and arena football to cover. At the same time, there's still baseball (when isn't there baseball?), then basketball, and hockey. Baseball is really in that odd blank space between May and August and that's about all there is in the summer as far as major sports goes.
5. No, this was a smart idea. I'm all for healthcare reform, but for something this large and this sweeping, there needs to be a lot of research done and a lot of homework completed before it's voted on. It's like refinancing your home; you want to do it fast so you can get the benefits of faster, but you need to do thorough research so you do it right.
6. Yeah, all our conjecture will be moot or confirmed come the Ball State game. I'm hoping we're wrong about things being worse and right about things being better. Our program can do all it wants to bring up the stadium, but ultimately, wins will do more than anything else. New stadium =/= wins, but wins could +++ for a new stadium.
7. No self-promotion in this one, you're just being a good alumni!
8. There's the key point right there. Obama's standpoint about his kids during the election was, "I have kids. Don't follow them around, please." Palin's was, "I have these kids, and they believe abstinence works, see? We're awesome. Oh wait, one has a kid out of wedlock but hey, pro-life because we're better than you. Also, stop talking about my kids, regardless of what I've said or the limelight I put them under." Palin turned that one daughter of hers into a target. Mind you, the media isn't blameless, but Palin should've known better or at least not be surprised by this.
9. I think you were referring to TTG's comments (or someone's) that got them temporarily banned. This was in another thread, but I think it's in the same one being linked to.
10. Play him away, keyboard cat. <param name="movie" value=" name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344">
11. I thought the Iraqi government already had a withdrawal date set for the US before the US government did. At any rate, if the Iraqis want to run their own show (and they should) let them do it if they want it that badly. They're supposed to be a sovereign nation, so let them do their own thing.
12. If that guy turns the deal from an AK47 to say, an AR with a 6.8 upper, I think I'm driving to Missouri for a new truck.
13. No, I'm looking at this as a site designer. "Here's this new site", or in other words, "Let's just scoot the navigation to the top of the page, but not change the overall look of the site." The extra functionality is nice to have, but you can't really say "the new site looks awesome" when 99% of the style is the same thing. I think the correct statement is, "it looks marginally better than the old one, the eagle screech is gone, and they added some new widgets, which are pretty freakin' cool."
14. Aside from the site not screeching at me, this isn't any better than the old one.
15. Looks like he took a nasty hit that jarred his memory around before he got here.
16. Well, I guess the former owners got one huge payoff for all of their work. Great for them. Hopefully the new ownership will handle it as well once they grab more English-speaking employees.
17. The opportunity costs of marijuana remaining illegal are really the major sticking point here. If your department only has 15 officers, would you rather have them preventing violent crimes and handling domestic disputes or arresting someone for simply having pot in their home? Your officers being deployed costs $x thousands of dollars. Do you want them making arrests over $50 bags of pot or catching uninsured drivers and making DUI arrests? I would rather deploy my force to the most imminent and direct threats. You know, "closest target" philosophy.
18. In their first game against NT, they lost 21-0 and lost a player due to a hi/low tackle that hyper-extended his knee. I think the score is about even now.
19. It's different. Cobbs/Quinn/Kennedy/Buckles/Zuniga are on the list now. I wonder how Nick Bazaldua didn't make it to that list, though. NT won more than a few games because of his abilities.
20. We talked about this. And then our dear friend, meangreenbob said we needed to cut George Dunham from UNT sports. After that, people hit meangreenbob with large satchels full of bricks.
21. That only applies to fake, spend-happy "Republicans". I mean, how else do you complain about it now in thread after thread and barely mention in it in the previous administration?
22. Walk around campus sometime. Ask graduate and non-traditional students. Not everyone has mom and dad's credit card to depend on, or an easy field of study. You'll find students trading insurance money for a higher GPA or just a passing grade.
23. It's still a well crafted game, and this year has some good improvements, like the new custom team builder and some other junk in it. I guess the problem I've always had is that there should be more between one year and the next. 07/08 were examples of minimal improvements from a year to the next, so I skipped on 2008. 2009 actually made good use of the hardware updates but not having a team builder was a bit of a letdown. I'll get 2009, but I'll probably grab it in a week or so. As for COD...don't get me started.
