  1. My nominee for worst post of the season right here. The current BCS 'champions' won't really be as such since a lot of good programs are being left out because they weren't good programs back in like, 1954 or whatever. The BCS is an oligarchy, and it's as simple as that. God forbid that these schools have to win a national title through something like a tournament, or have to play schools that might endanger their flawless (hah) record. I mean, why should the BCS be subject to the same rules as pro boxing, the NFL, the NBA, olympic track and field, and really every other sport? No, let's just decide the championship of a sport based on popularity. So what if a tournament happens, and what if Cincy, and Rutgers and Boise and TCU all get knocked off and UT and OU still rise to the top? At least this time, they earned their way to title game instead of being nudged along through a popularity system.
  2. What, as opposed to the "old" war tax?
  3. Way to kneejerk it, pal. The guy didn't have PTSD, but he did get the shit bullied out of him after 9/11, and it seems like he wasn't really of the best constitution anyways. Hearing all of the post-tour stuff from other soldiers probably just exacerbated his own weakness. He should've been booted out of the service after the issue at that medical center, and definitely locked up after being tied to that radical imam. Honestly, I wouldn't want to be a muslim in America right now, much less a muslim in the military. Everyone would look at me like I'm gonna knife them in the damn back, just like it was with the Japanese in the 1940's. I can see why they wouldn't wanna call it terrorism because it'll scare the crap out of people and raise some bad paranoia in the military, but that damage is already done. Yeah, I do agree - everyone's in cover mode, and I bet there are more than a few people who could've prevented this.
  4. I wanna think of it that way too, but I want to say that almost doesn't really count. Admittedly, if our team would show up as a group and be there the whole game we would probably be 6-2 right now. Without costly turnovers, and consistent play from the defense, we'd have a totally different record. While that's somewhat encouraging, the question has to be asked - "Why not? We're so close!"
  5. IDK, apparently you need a tier 1 football program, a city population that's 80% students, and every building painted in school colors. You know, apparently you can't have a college town without this. This thread is dumb as hell.
  6. It's easier to steal from a friend than it is from an enemy. It's even better when you're the better equipped pickpocket. Good diplomatic relations have any number of benefits that aren't PR related.
  7. A former White House speechwriter posted a call on the conservative Web site Newsmax for the president to be deposed in a military coup. It was quickly taken down, but the damage was done. Perfect example of where politics in our country should never go. But I have to say that the problem is really the media wanting to get that next step for more ratings and more attention - and in American media, scare, sex, and shock sell.
  8. I think this sort of "I'M GONNA LEAVE THIS FLAMEBAIT POST, HAHAHAHA" behavior was covered in this post: http://www.gomeangreen.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=47767#
  9. Well, I hope they fix this, but I'll just manage with the Carrollton station when it opens. I'll be really happy because there's construction for a station RIGHT behind my office, and that'll be awesome to have if I like this place enough to be there that long.
  10. I know he's the first prez to go in person, but that's it. I didn't really pay much attention to this anyway.
  11. Sarcasm fail, kid. Plus, if you read those claims, they were about as bassackwards as the ones the Republican and the other assorted party representatives spouted off. Besides, those weren't worth reading anyways if they were actually serious.
  12. Are you really so naive that you'd think it'd improve that much in just what, 8 months? And this is just aimed at you - because UNTFlyer has it right - very little of what economies do has much to with a standing president. That sort of thing takes a year or two really sink in. Aside from things like adjusting the fed interest rate, most economic changes are in small increments and happen over a long span of time. In case you didn't know - economies are very closely related to psychology, both in how mindsets and actions affect them, and that you always want both to be stable, engage in gradual change, and that massive changes (up or down) usually result in a massive change in the opposite direction. Let's put this into perspective - Dickey really fouled up our program. Took him just a few years to rip up what he had in 2004 and turn it into what we had in 2006. Ideally, we expected Dodge to turn it around in 1-2 years. We're expecting to toss Dodge out this season or next season if things don't go well. A football team has what, 50-some-odd players, a handful of coaches, another handful of staff, as well as external factors like fan support, alumni donation base, etc. Each one of these has to play its role to improve a team. Multiply that by a few thousand, add an exponential amount of external factors (other countries and their economies) and that's about what it'll take to fix the US economy. Things on the inside have to improve, and they are. At least the fall is slowing down and the last month or so has seen at least some turnaround. That's good internally, but a lot of what happens in our own borders has a lot to do with what goes on outside of them. I don't know if you're aware of this, but a good part of the reason why our markets failed is because markets we're attached to did the same. They've gotta get their crap in order with us, otherwise it's like fixing the hard drive of a computer while trying to run it on a surge-happy power supply with an iffy CPU fan.
  13. Didn't we already have a discussion about posts like this?
  14. If the team that was at Ball State and that showed up at the 2nd half tonight shows up with improved discipline, my answer is that YES both games can be wins.
  15. He's a good player - he's got all the right attributes but he's gonna have to learn to tuck that ball away or throw it away. I know there's a lot of pressure but it's always better to lob a ball into the stands than it is to cough up a turnover. Really, he'd improve a lot if he would just stop running the ball like it's a loaf of bread. He needs polish - but I know he's gonna be good if he improves his weakness.
  16. I actually thought that Dodge finally made it work in the last half of the game. Barring the penalties and turnovers, the game was winnable, and probably a sure thing. That said, I think Dodge needs to get these guys focused and better disciplined both to prevent penalties and to prevent turnovers. These players also need to do these improvements on their own because they won't win another game otherwise. I think the physical caliber of players is there, but I think they need to cut the mental mistakes out or we'll have the same season we had last year. I think our guys can still go 6-6 this season but they're gonna have to shore up the discipline issues. I see the potential in both the coaching and playing, but it's gotta come sooner. I've got hope for this season and unlike last year, there's signs it can happen.
  17. You know, just last week you asked us if the jerseys had somehow been replaced with new ones. No, your posts are entirely meaningless.
  18. You and me both, but it's an improvement over playing almost everyone in the top 5 in one season, though.
  19. Oh noes, time to close up the program, fellas. We can't be competitive in anything because of a few losses. ARGH.
  20. Hyperbole (pronounced /haɪˈpɜrbəliː/ hye-PER-bə-lee[1], from ancient Greek "ὑπερβολή", meaning excess or exaggeration) is a figure of speech in which statements are exaggerated. It may be used to evoke strong feelings or to create a strong impression, but is rarely meant to be taken literally. Hyperbole is used to create emphasis. It is a literary device often used in poetry, and is frequently encountered in casual speech. It is also a visual technique in which a deliberate exaggeration of a particular part of an image is employed. An example is the exaggeration of a person's facial feature in a political cartoon.
  21. Did you seriously just ask that?
  22. Hey, hey guess what. In the grand scheme of things, none of this matters. It's pop music - it's freaking transient kitsch, not the bloody Cuban Missile Crisis. God.
  23. Except that in the case of some target demographics, mom and dad are either without the time or discipline to encourage their kids to attain an education and that it may be up the child him/herself to determine their own fate in later years. Any motivation is good motivation when it comes to getting someone to pursue education and to stick with it as they grow up.
