Do NOT Purchase EA Sports NCAA Football 2012!
meangreendork replied to jquincy's topic in Mean Green Football
Wasn't planning to buy it begin with. The new stadium wasn't going to be in it and neither were the uniforms since the dev team is usually a year behind, especially when a program has major changes during the tail end of the development phase and pre-release. And the music? I solve that by adding my own tracks anyways. -
Uh, based on...?

I like some of what's been produced by that company the AD hired, but this billboard is really atrocious. Unless the idea is to get the viewer to need to look at it 3-5 times get what's going on in that billboard, the billboard leaves a lot for improvement. The stadium render is difficult to read at that distance and size. The grass background makes it hard to read. It's all a mess.

You should see what they're doing. It's a lot of conditioning workouts that I didn't see them run last season, and it's all run at a quicker pace, too. The great part about a lot of these drills, all of the resistance is either from the player's own weight or from the weight of another player. These aren't just laps run around the field, it's body drags, teamed pushups, shoulder carries, and all sorts of endurance and strength work. After the Carey release, this also shows how serious our new staff is about getting these guys conditioned and motivated for the next season. I recruiting tool or not, a change of pace in workouts and change of intensity is usually good.

Most of you already know about the "University of North Texas" and diving eagle being finished on the stadium. Coming from 35, north of campus, you can see it nicely from a few miles out and the stadium from even further. And this morning, I was greeted by a large red truck and HMMWV with the USMC sabre on the side of each, with a US flag and USMC flag in the middle of the practice field. There something between 6-8 Marines out there today giving our team the run through in some different workouts.

That's a good question, and most people's answer is no. But the difference is the perceived amount of people who us the US flag and the 'Confederate Flag" as part of their visual language, and what percentage of them (or at least perceived amount) is racist. The US flag is probably used by a far larger population and a far more diverse population than the other flag. As such, its odds of being associated with racists/etc., is far lower. If you see 1000 people with a flag (and I use "see" not, "there are" for a reason), of which 1 is a racist, it's hard to see the other 1000 as racists. One is more than likely to be seen as a patriotic American with a US flag. However, the 'Confederate Flag' is often seen in use by racist groups, and in many cases, what many would call hicks. If you see 10 people with this flag of which 1 is a racist, it's easier for someone's brain to draw a conclusion that they're a racist. One is more than likely to be seen as any number of rural/southern stereotypes when seen with this flag. A lot of it is perception and relative representation. We do it all the time when we meet 1000 UT fans of which many are douchebags and hope that they don't represent the 1 UT fan we sit with at lunch or at work.

If you know anything about the internet, you know that a simple search won't do all of the filtering through conjecture, opinions, and lack of recordkeeping to find what you want, especially when it refers to history that is hundreds of years old. So about your sources: Either put up or shut up. I can sit here and say all sorts of junk about the Civil War and say "durrhurr, look it up." That means nothing without actually citing something, and since what you're putting up has some iffy statements, the burden of proof is on you. Also, CBL: slavery is A cause, but not THE cause. Especially when many in the northern US didn't much care about abolition or were against it, or just didn't care. Don't forget how long it took for abolition to occur, and then how long it took for the US Army to create units composed of former slaves.

College Football Countdown #112 North Texas
meangreendork replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Tulsa is a scary team. I watched them play a bit last season and paid really close attention during the Hawaii Bowl. They picked apart Hawaii's offense the entire day, and they have a very, very strong offense. Just the same, their offense did well for a good part of the season. I think our guys can win, but Tulsa isn't a pushover. -
I've been around for just about 11 years and there's a night and day difference. When I started here, the stands were empty and you couldn't find someone with UNT gear on nearly as easily as you can now. Heck, within the year that RV started, you saw a difference in the atmosphere on campus, and even moreso with the successful Dickey years. Then look at the attendance during the Dodge coaching era - I was always surprised that despite the record, we had the attendance we did. At the same time, our facilities got a massive improvement, and with the new stadium and the new facilities for the other teams, you can't miss the improvements there. If I can see a difference in just 11 years, I'm sure you see even more in 41. I think FFR's being pessimistic here.

We Got Bin Laden
meangreendork replied to CMJ's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Actually, it's not a distance requirement, and that you bring that up means you're missing UNT90's point. Let's try this: Pakistan's government is sorely limited. Limited by resources, limited by its own people, and limited by corruption. They're also getting funding and training from the US military. Is it really in their best interest to make a huge to-do about some random handful of militants being turned into hamburger some long distance into a mountain range that is as sparsely populated as it is far from civilization? No, because the incursion is of little consequence when compared to the amount of assistance that Pakistan receives from the US. It is, however, a bigger deal when the incursion includes a series of aircraft, actual personnel going on the ground, the head of a terrorist organization, and all of this happening near Pakistan's West Point. Pakistan may still not do anything about this because they are aware of their situation, but in the case of Bin Laden, they're probably a bit more motivated due to the amount of equipment and manpower used, the location and its proximity, and the target involved. -

He had his 5 hour energy that day. He should probably IV that into his system because he constantly looks like he's dozing. -
1.) It's not about a new logo. Logo =/= branding. Branding = logo/snapper lines/color choices/branding strategies/messaging/media choices/etc. 2.) It's about trying to improve relations with merchandise companies, retailers and small businesses, local or otherwise. 3.) Also, they ideas is to make UNT the campus of choice of our part of DFW and northward, then shift southwards and out to encompass all of DFW.

I don't think he is, he might be if he does take Trump seriously, though. Personally, he's a celebrity and one that thinks he can tell OPEC to screw off and not have to pay for it later. -

At first, we're all "Yay, a victory we can all celebrate because all/most of us were in favor of operations in Afghanistan because none of that is at all questionable and all very rock-solid!" And then Rick rolls in with, "No, must make political and divisive! GRR! SMASH!"- 137 replies

Coach Canales At The Denton Jazz/arts Fest
meangreendork replied to meangreendork's topic in Mean Green Football
He's there for a UNT-sponsored appearance. It's the tent near the entrance nearest to the largest stage. -
Ran into Coach Canales at one of the tents leading into the fest today. You guys should say hi if you're in the area.

I thought the whole birth cert thing was BS. If Hilary didn't bring that gun out, then odds are, it was legit to begin with. Everyone asking about it, even after the entirely-good short form came out, should've just stopped with it. Now some are BSing about his father's lineage, even when that would've ruled other presidents out as well. It's a lot of butthurt people involved in this. It needs to stop because we have other, bigger issues to deal with as a nation. Some may have pursued the birth cert thing out of racism, but that isn't everyone, nor does the inquiry into the cert become a racist action on its own. I like how no one thinks the idea of someone having to be born as a citizen to become president is somehow outdated. I want to clarify and say that someone can't just show up in May and run for president in June, but let's say someone was born overseas, comes to the US at the age of 2, totally integrates into American society, and then works their way up. Is their loyalty somehow less than that of someone born here?

Hell yes, interlocked letters that EVERY school does that the athletic department is never, ever going to do!

I'm all for this, if there's a ton of training and checks before someone gets the OK to carry. I'm not talking about some 10 hour course, I'm talking about 6 months of work that has to be done, and most of it in 2 areas: determining when it's the time to shoot and how to do so, and placing the right set of rounds onto the right target. I like the idea of someone being able to protect themselves, but I don't like the idea of additional rounds being thrown around with no real idea of where they're going. I'm not worried about a nutjob with a CHL rolling through campus. A nutjob will be armed no matter what. I am worried that you have a situation where someone did a CHL over the weekend when something like this really does require months and months of training for both WHEN to shoot and HOW to shoot, so they take their 6 hours of classes and start putting rounds downrange like a bad hollywood movie.
