  1. College football isn't the problem - it's the NCAA and it's AQs that are the problem. Andrew McNulty throwing a football in a UNT uniform isn't the problem. It's that odds are, no matter what the team does or who it beats, UNT will never see the same financial benefits from media coverage that a losing BIG XII team will see.
  2. The major culprit is Tulsa's play against our previous teams, and our previous coaches. The first season will be rough, but our team right now is better than at half of CUSA. The problem is facing off against the usual CUSA power teams.
  3. I'd like it to be Tulsa. There's a history there, and Tulsa is currently the best team in the new CUSA.
  4. The WAC has been sort of a bad joke since like 2003. Not that the SBC was much better, but at least no one thought it was going to die.
  5. Sadly, no. This is footage for last year's release of NCAA Football (prior to the Apogee opening) and it's also the stock indoor facility. Sorry, bro. But it is cool to see UNT highlighted.
  6. I don't see A/M Commerce liking that nor do I see the A/M system liking that either.
  7. JJ's a solid character, and let's be honest - if we were coaching at another university and the AD from UNT called any of us up asking if we wanted to coach at our alma mater, I'm sure we would all take it.
  8. I wouldn't expect him to succeed, but hey, whatever works.
  9. His wife and kids and the woman's (probably) ex-fiancee'.
  10. Marketing doesn't matter nearly as much as product does.
  11. The team is good, Mitchell makes them better, but there's a lot to be improved upon from last season. Rebounds, 3 pointers, mid-court stuff. Again, our guys make for a really good team, but they're just at the tipping point of good to great.
  12. I think Santorum's people play a lot of Fallout. Coming soon in 2013: FALLOUT - OBAMAVILLE. Watch out for those Iranians Obama hangs out with!
  13. Have any of you actually read the new policy? It's basically a softened version of the private sector's policy. Instead of the private sector's insta-fire, this one requires some review process and has appeals built into it. I think it's better than the old "you gotta commit murder to get fired" system and it's better than the private sector's, "good morning, by the way, you're fired" system.
  14. Doesn't look like UNT90's trying to say Martin had it coming - even if for some reason he had drugs in his system. I think it still comes down to Zimmerman pursuing and engaging Martin against police advice and against neighborhood watch guidelines. The situation doesn't really change.
  15. Unless he was looking to deal weed out there, his pot incident doesn't really change much about the incident. Even with that in mind, you have a kid nailed for an empty weed bag vs. a dude who calls 911 for every tiny thing on his watch with an assault incident on his record and for violence in his domestic relationships. If we're gonna look at background, Zimmerman doesn't win this one either. But Martin's 6'3" and 100lbs lighter than Zimmerman's 5'2" and 200lbs or so really helps explain why Zimmerman would get a beatdown, regardless of who threw the first punch. That "coon" thing is still up in the air, but I don't think he's an outward racist.
  16. This is interesting. http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2012/03/22/149166418/sanford-police-chief-will-step-down-temporarily
  17. Minorities can't be racist? Bahaha, that's an awful joke.
  18. Makes us all sound like a bunch of George Zimmermans, doesn't it? Oh wait, none of us got out of our cars to chase some black kid down, despite being told not to, got into a fight with him, got our asses kicked, and then wussed out by shooting him. We also never claimed self-defense, and then later said that we stopped on a street to check where we were, when our phone calls mentioned following the black kid on foot.
  19. "Zimmerman said he had stepped out of his truck to check the name of the street he was on when Trayvon attacked him from behind as he walked back to his truck, police said. He said he feared for his life and fired the semiautomatic handgun he was licensed to carry because he feared for his life." Read more here: http://www.miamiherald.com/2012/03/19/2703029/us-department-of-justice-fbi-and.html#disqus_thread#storylink=cpy#storylink=cpy This doesn't match the information from 911 tapes, and it doesn't match what was said by the girl Martin was on the phone with just before he was shot. It doesn't help that according to the national neighborhood watch, Zimmerman wasn't ever supposed to pursue on foot nor carry a weapon.
  20. This is pretty new - it's from the 911 tapes: “This guy looks like he’s up to no good or on drugs or something,” Mr. Zimmerman told dispatch, in his initial call. “It’s raining and he’s just walking around, looking about.” Mr. Zimmerman continued: “He’s here now just looking at all the houses. Now he’s just staring at me.” Then he added a second later: “He’s coming to check me out. He’s got something in his hands. I don’t know what his deal is. Can you get an officer over here?” At that point, Trayvon ran, and Mr. Zimmerman continued to follow. The dispatcher told him to wait for the police. A suggestion was made that Mr. Zimmerman and the police should meet by a mailbox. But then Mr. Zimmerman changed his mind. “Actually, could you have him call me and I’ll tell him where I’m at.”
  21. He might be clear to not be arrested at the time of the incident, but there's still the whole thing about how he got out of his vehicle and confronted the suspect, despite being told not to do so. I'm thinking he was a little overzealous, and based on other things I've read about his methods, it sounds right. I don't think it's racially motivated. Yes, minorities can be racist against other minorities, but that's not the case here.
  22. Outwardly racist? I doubt it. A result of profiling? Yes. Martin was profiled for being black in a predominantly white neighborhood. He's gonna stick out like a sore thumb, and he's walking around at night. The shooter's instinct to watch him because he's an odd thing in that area was entirely alright. But Zimmerman's actions after being told by police to just follow Martin, stay in the car, and not confront him were anything but acceptable. TLDR; Zimmerman's screwed. Not only did he do exactly what he was told not to, he ended up shooting Martin, and shooting Martin because he was getting the crap beat out of him (according to witnesses). It also doesn't help that he had a (dismissed) charge for another violent act in his past. And Martin? Probably killed as a result of Walking While Black.
  23. Those are the academic/official marks, not the athletics ones. Those are pretty much locked in. Also, SOW + black.
  24. Sept. 1 -- at LSU (Loss) Sept. 8 -- Texas Southern (Better be a blowout win) Sept. 15 -- at Kansas State (Loss) Sept. 22 -- Troy* (Win) Sept. 29 -- at Florida Atlantic* (Win) Oct. 6 -- at Houston Win (If conditioning has improved enough and our starters are at 100%, this is a win, though it'll be close.) Oct. 16 -- Louisiana-Lafayette* (Win. Maybe.) Oct. 27 -- at Middle Tennessee* (Win) Nov. 3 -- Arkansas State* (Homecoming) (Win, but with the same conditions as Houston) Nov. 10 -- South Alabama* (Win) Nov. 17 -- at Louisiana-Monroe* (Win) Nov. 24 -- at Western Kentucky* (Win, but same conditions as Houston, which is doubtful at the end of the season.) If the ball bounces in our favor every time and our team is at 100% every game with no injuries, I say 10-2. Being more realistic, I'm expecting 7-5. I don't think Coach McCarney will allow anything less than 6-6.
