Not doing the Vegas odds thing at all, it's not read as an equation, it's shorthand for "UNT wins by 14" drinking the kool-aid, or "loses by 14 or more" without the kool-aid. Either way, it's a squeak win or a runaway loss. It really depends on the performance of DT and what the losses in the defense cost our team.

If this was our current roster against the 2012 KState team, I'd say it'd be 42-28, UNT. Realistically: UNT +3 or UNT -14 or more. It's a squeaker, or KState runs away with it. Green Kool-aid mode: UNT +14. KState has an off season, their long-term inconsistency in both play and coaching sets in as Coach Mac's career experience and the weaknesses Chico saw in 2010 combine with an improved UNT team for a hard-fought but well-deserved win. Our passing game has to be spot-on against KState. It doesn't matter who throws the ball, just so long as passes are completed. KState will play against the run because they will think that's the only card we have. They will plan for passing, and they're good enough to stop that as well, so passing has to be effective and our offense will have to keep KState guessing in order to create opportunities. The defense has to keep doing what they've been doing over the last 2 games, but be even better than they were against LSU.

I think Coach Mac is building for a win in that game. His mindset seems to be more than just conference, but any team, any conference, he wants to win.

I noticed something about that game and the LSU game - our D sniffs for turnovers. It's good to see our guys getting really close to snagging missed passes, it really is. I wish they caught more of them, because there were at least 3 other TOs left on the grass on Saturday to go along with at least 12 points left on the grass, too.

Actually, the Ocean of Soul is more about PA overkill than anything else. If we were grading bands on a 1-10 scale, their band got a 5. If their PA guy would have shut the hell up, I would have given them a 7-8. I heard more of that overacting PA guy than the band.

The brigade is better by all measures. They have a bigger outfit, but their marching is always complex, intricate and equally sharp. The brigade also has far more complex music choices as well. TSU's band relied on easily recognizable (and in this case, far easier) music, easier to execute formations, small size, and showmanship. Too bad that as good as they might be, and as loud as they might think they are, they're still outclassed.

He led his team against Jacksonville State last week, where the other team put up 7, 14, and 3 points on Ark in the first 3 quarters. By sort of luck, Ark put up 7,28, and 14 on Jacksonville state in the first 3 quarters, most of it by way of player talent, not by coaching. The coach pretty much failed last night. I know ULM might be good, but this win isn't as big of a deal, especially when the Ark fans think their team is trash.

The Green Brigade is about as big time as marching bands get and they have been for years now. Don't be a douchebag about uniforms - heat is heat, and a uniform made of wool is asking for a bunch of kids to get sick or worse. Oh, and about bands in alternate uniforms? It happens. It happens even more in Texas.

Their band was pretty damned good, their various dance groups are great also. The PA guy needs to shut the hell up. He pretty much ruined their music because he was louder than all of it.
-
Don't get too jumpy. They had an interim head coach in there tonight. After this, I'm sure he won't be getting hired.
-
The real question is, can they keep it going?

What a tool. Look, if we didn't pay for the stuff this guy used that we didn't, I'm pretty sure his costs would go up, and with his mentality, he'd probably crap a brick about that cost, too. Heck, I would venture a guess that if we ran a university according to that system, we would just have a college, and not a great one at that.

I think our guys can pull of 7-5, maybe even the SBC ring this year. ArkSt was just burned alive by Oregon's speed. I know our guys may not have the same wheels on them, but ArkSt looks slower than last season. They're still a threat for the ring, no matter what. I also watched FIU at Duke, and FIU looked worse against Duke than our guys against LSU. While FIU put more points on the board against Duke, Duke's defense was very weak last season, and Duke broke the 40 pt mark far earlier than LSU did against our guys. Houston also looked godawful in their week one game. I know part of it is Fran at the helm of the Bobcats, but I think a lot of it is the loss of key Houston players that kept the game out of our reach last fall. Again, 7-5, maybe a ring. The ring really tips on the fortunes of the major powers of last year's SBC since we don't have a champ game in the SBC.

Glad that our guys brought the hits out, and glad Mettenberger wasn't hurt.

Even my social liberal side doesn't like this. It's one thing if I'm an insurance company or medical outfit and I was asked to pay for this sort of surgery for an otherwise law-abiding citizen. But in my mind, a murderer has basically declared war on society, so the rules change, as do their rights and privileges.

Texas Southern has a new coach. We don't know him well, but the DIV-II world knows him well, I'm guessing. http://www.chron.com/sports/college-football/article/TSU-hires-Shaw-s-Asberry-as-football-coach-2421476.php Last season, TSU went 4-7, but the season before that, they were 9-3. Comparing them to FBS/DIV-IA teams is a bit difficult since they've only played a handful in the last few years, with no games in 2011. 2010 vs. UCONN, they lost 62-3 2009 vs. ULM, they lost 58-0 vs. TxSt, they lost 52-18 vs. Rutgers, they lost 42-0 Interestingly, they always play Prairie View close. This week, their game was a barn-burner as apparently neither team showed up with a defense.

LSU students' bad taste and bad grammar
meangreendork replied to UNT90's topic in Mean Green Football
No, LSU fans really would prefer to shower at Penn State and then root for Alabama at an LSU game. No errors present, except for that pseudo-french nonsense. -
Attendance ideas for UNT's Tuesday night ULL game
meangreendork replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
For the faculty - let's encourage them to offer extra credit or some type of incentive for students who attend that game. If the professor has an early class the next day, let them allow the students who attend the game to miss or take the class at a later time in the day. Let's be bold and go beyond just asking the faculty and staff to help us on this big night. Extra credit isn't something I'd offer unless the game was somehow relevant to class. IE: social interaction, sports marketing, culinary arts or something. Some of these other ideas are pretty good - but they all tackle the "make it easier to get into the game" issue, too. The idea of returning to the old process of an ID swipe at the gate for students will probably be a huge boon. Frankly, I don't see why we don't do that and stick to it. It would likely help attendance all season. Other great ones include having people "check in" via Foursquare at Apogee and take a photo of their presence at the game. Partnered with local businesses (or even non-local ones), the people who check in and take a photo, and load it (typically one action anyways) are given some sort of prize selectively, or everyone gets a blanket discount. To encourage attendance for the whole night, a special prize can be awarded to people who are still checked in after the start of the 4th quarter, or at least selectively given to a few in that group. Reduced prices on the concessions will probably help (I'm not sure to what extent), but advertising that will put more people in seats, I'm sure of that.- 38 replies

It really is, top to bottom. That support CFA day thing was silly. I don't think God wants us to voice our opinions by buying a chicken sandwich. That day's counterpart day was just as silly, too. Everyone who got involved with this mess is silly, and the only people who got anything out of it were CFA's shareholders. I don't agree with CFA's stance, but booting them from campus means they'll just buy a spot near campus. Won't fix anything at all.

OT: Idaho Going Independent in Football
meangreendork replied to KoldBeer's topic in Mean Green Football
Holy crap, Idaho just needs to do a full shift down so they can compete better and actually play in a conference. I don't really expect anyone to want to go all the way to the Kibbie or have the Vandals drive down unless they're desperate to fill their schedule or get a money game in. I'm glad our higher-ups didn't choose the WAC. Whether not we stayed in the SBC, CUSA would've come knocking on the door of the SBC. I don't know if they'd knock on our door asking for a switch. -
Any T.V Upgrades for Football Season?
meangreendork replied to Side Show Joe's topic in Mean Green Football
Plasma TVs tend to run a bit less expensive than their LED and LCD counterparts, but beyond that, it's personal preference and individual model differences. On topic: No, no TV upgrades. I bought a 37" Samsung LCD a few years back and it's perfect for the viewing distance I'm at. Besides, I'd rather throw the money at a desktop build or tablet right now. -
Ark State reassigns AD for lack of fundraising.
meangreendork replied to EGL66's topic in Mean Green Football
Yeah, but that would make sense, and we can't do that.
