The O-line has been great all year. There's no doubt about that - there have been almost no sacks on DT and he's generally had time to scan the field. Our RBs have yards coming out of the nose, too. It's just the QB to WR connection that has to be fixed. I think we have the parts in place for a decent offense, but the QB/WR thing has to be fixed to make our offense complete.

Can't win w/ a run first offense...really
meangreendork replied to BIG DAWG's topic in Mean Green Football
You can win with a run first offense, but you need at least a decent QB and a good offensive line for opening holes for the run and the give the QB time to pass. -
It's hard not to be harsh on Thompson. Every so often, he gets a bad hand on a passing play - the line breaks down, he gets chased out of pocket, or there's coverage everywhere. But generally speaking, he gets plenty of time in the pocket and there's usually an open receiver or two. With everything in his favor, he still manages to over or underthrow a receiver or he doesn't check down, so he lobs the ball into tight coverage. I mean, he's great when he's on, but he's more off than anything else.

That's true, Oregon basically put everyone including their trainers and probably random students on the field to make it look respectable. Oregon basically took ArkSt to the woodshed, beat them, then found another woodshed and beat them behind that one, too.
-
Looking at ArkSt's stats - they've got what looks like a questionable defense. They're ranked 80 in the nation for points scored against, and it looks like they have a weaker overall schedule than our guys do. Their offense is still frightening though. They put up a pile of points on Oregon, more than anyone else on Oregon's schedule.
-
You would think they'd be all about vengeance for that curb-stomping they got last season. I know I would be, especially if I was a player.
-
They seem to have forgotten that we have a different, more successful coach than we did back at that blowout. They also seem to have forgotten they have the same coach they had during the blowout. They have also forgotten about the rout they were handed last season. And that they are with without Cunningham.

Sooo are we still against coach Mac's rush heavy offense?
meangreendork replied to D-ry's topic in Mean Green Football
2012 to date: 197 pass attempts :: ~40% 297 carries :: ~60% 2011 total: 347 pass attempts :: ~42% 480 carries :: ~58% 2004 total: 250 pass attempts :: ~34% 491 carries :: ~ 66% By plays called, it's still run heavy, but not as much. As far as production we're seeing more from the passing game. -

meangreendork replied to D-ry's topic in Mean Green Football
2012 Offensive Totals, as of October 2012: Passing - 1517 yards, 8 TDs. Rushing - 1288 yards, 10 TDs. 2004 Offensive Totals, total 2004 season: Passing - 1891 yards, 14TDs. Rushing - 2237 yards, 21TDs. So in just about half the season, our passing totals this season are close to that of the 2004 rush-heavy, Dickeyball-era offense. Our current passing and rushing yards have the passing yards just edge out rushing. I'd call that balanced. -
MTSU's star running back is a big part of their success this year, but if I remember right, he's now out for the season (or at least our game). That's a lucky draw for our team. Their backup has only 200 or so yards, and the next guy on the chart has 2TDs and just under 200 yards. They're still dangerous on the ground. Their QB however, is performing just a shade better than ours is. The odds look roughly even, but that's only looking at raw numbers and rankings, not the actual teams played by UNT and MTSU.
-
It depends on our offense, specifically, the passing game. If all cylinders are firing, we win by 14. If the passing game doesn't work, we lose by that same amount. I think our defense will be fine as long as they aren't expected to play 55 minutes of a 60 minute game.

remember that OU game we lost during the Dodge era

Just because I share a state with something doesn't mean I have to support it. I don't support a team just because I exist on the same chunk of dirt it does. I support it if I've got emotional attachment to it, and I've got none of that for UT. -
Unless DT goes on a season-long hotstreak, I think that Berglund or McNulty will start next season. This season though, I want to see Osborne more. At least a drive so he has a chance to succeed on the field, or get drilled for 6 plays so we know the coaches at least tried him again.
-
I was going to say the same thing, but you beat me to it. I'm in favor of taxing and regulating it, or at least clear it for medical usage when prescribed.

http://www.readtheho..._demonstrations I strongly doubt this is racially motivated since it's happened to white students in the past, but it's still assault, it's still dangerous, and I hope our students don't get that stupid.

More Evidence That...
meangreendork replied to KRAM1's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Companies really have upped the expectations by checking someone's online presence or lack of. What really is upsetting is that in some cases, an employer will ask for someone's login credentials (which is a huge red flag) in addition to checking up on the employee. I sort of look at it this way, "you want to screen my financial history, screen what I do online, demand hours from me outside of the given schedule, and then expect me to be 100% loyal to you when I know you can drop me whenever? Nah, I'm not dealing with that." OGS: I think that the better candidates for a job will go places where the screening process will be a lot less intrusive. -
You guys think utsa is legit....
meangreendork replied to Coach Bill Lewis's topic in Mean Green Football
This would make sense if UTSA was scheduling the likes of Houston, Western Kentucky, Boise, or Tulsa. What you're saying that it's cool to trounce the 100lb 12 year-old in a fist fight as opposed to going round-for-round and hit-for-hit with Brock Lesnar. Beating up the 100lb. kid makes you a douchebag. Coming close to winning against a bigger/faster/stronger opponent means you can compete. -
After looking at the bottom10, I want to know how the same MTSU our team destroyed last season goes against Georgia Tech and beats them.

Trainwreck impending. On a serious note though, being single has its advantages. I don't remember what those are though, I've been off the market for almost 6 years now. -
Considering that the defense was on the field for about 3/4 of the game, I think they did well. Sure, they could've done better and forced more turnovers or maybe grabbed a pick 6, but the truth of the matter is that a football team should never expect a defense to produce points to win a game. The real fault lies in offensive play and planning - that left 28 points on the field, and special teams that left another 9 on the field. Had those field goals landed, we would have 14-16, or if the offensive TD opportunities been taken, it would've been 14-35. The D did their job. Troy has a dangerous offense and our D did a great job of holding them at bay even without Troy's previous habits of bad turnovers and huge penalties to help out.

Todd Dodge's QB sets state passing record
meangreendork replied to Baby Arm!'s topic in Mean Green Football
Or the same qualifications standards. "Do just good enough that we score more than they do." -
Watching the ESPN3 replay...Troy seems to go out of its way to hurt its chances of winning.
-
Troy is full of mistakes this season. 9 turnovers in just 3 games, almost 300 yards in penalties, They've got one of the worst defenses in the country, and their schedule is cupcake by comparison to our team's schedule. I'd be worried about their passing attack, but our defense has looked pretty good so far. If our special teams gets it together, the passing game looks as good as it did against KState, the running games keeps the power on, our team will walk out of this with a healthy lead. 21 to 42, UNT.
