Year 3 will be critical for McCarney and UNT
meangreendork replied to stryker's topic in Mean Green Football
Woah, Benford hasn't done a great job yet, but he's not done 4 years of game loss damage and 4 years of recruiting damage. -
I'm really amused with the "specifically designated the days of creation as 24-hour days" line, which isn't actually anywhere in the scripture. You could make the logical leap, but nowhere does it say "days are 24 hours long." Besides, for all we know, days might have been longer or shorter during Biblical times, not to mention what people actually may or may not have used as a reference of measurement.

Zed Evans transfers from Louisville to NT
meangreendork replied to outoftown's topic in Mean Green Football
Don't we have another bowl-bound transfer or two heading in? -
There's also not a lot of talk about the people wielding the firearm, too. Lanza (from what I understand) was going to be committed, so he got his hands on the firearms his mother owned and didn't secure. Maybe part of the process of owning a firearm is like getting to drive. A series of safety classes, maintenance courses, decisionmaking drills, and showing responsibility for securing the firearm, like lockboxes, gun safes, etc. If we have to test for a driver's license, why not a firearm? Plus, the best shooter is one that's as proficient with actually firing as they are deciding when to draw and deciding how to store their weapon.

The Hobbit
meangreendork replied to Harry's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
It didn't have the splash that the LOTR movies had, but it's still really true to the source material (there was actually some added content for the sake of context). I'm sure the following movies will be as good. -
Scott was never a big numbers, big passes kind of guy. He was better than that, really. He had really good vision, read coverage well, knew when to tuck it in and run, and he had a good control of the guys he led on the field.

RIP Dave Brubeck
meangreendork replied to eulessismore's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Definitely. His continuing contribution to music will be sorely missed. -
If we got the horribly missed red-zone TDs, our record would've been 5-7, maybe 6-6. DT left more than a few points on the ground every game.
-
I'd ask Mac to go, and if not, I'd ask him what his plans are to prevent the same. It'd be hard to keep someone after a season like that. If we did keep him, he'd better post 6-6 the season after at the very least. But a 4-8 or 5-7 record in CUSA, he stays at least for another year. He still stays on the hot seat, though.

A young team that might have skilled players, but not enough of them. I saw a lack of depth at our better positions where one or two guys have the abilities and play really well, but injuries kick in or they can't run the whole game at 100%, so the team suffers for it. It's that and we have a few positions that are lacking skill in general, some of that is youth and some of that appears to be lack of will. I hope that gets fixed going into CUSA. Also, CougarKing is a tool. It's like, "Bro, so you have a better team. That's nice, but you go on about it like you're a scholly player, and you aren't. I get it, be proud of your team, it's doing pretty well, but don't be a tier-1 douchebag about it because odds are, you're probably just as hacked about people beating their chests like they're putting in work at the weight room, doing drills, and suiting up on Saturday. Calm that mess down, son. You're going from fan into full-throttle stupid."

Could this be the biggest UNT sports weekend in history ?
meangreendork replied to NT03's topic in Mean Green Football
ULL at Florida is huge proof of that. Is ULL really deserving of being in the SunBelt? Does Florida really deserve the #6 ranking? That's cute. A team that was ranked last season beats up a team that managed 5-7 last season. Meanwhile, wasn't Houston supposed to be competitive with Tulsa (41-7)? Wasn't Houston supposed be competitive with SMU (72-42)? Wasn't Houston also supposed to stomp Texas State (30-13)? Houston also should've had ECU locked up. But no, Houston didn't (48-28). Most of the losses on Houston's schedule were expected wins. This may be a shock to you, but Houston is 4-6. This is clearly not the same Houston that was on fire last season. I appreciate your enthusiasm, but enthusiasm doesn't make up for bad losses. Especially bad losses against teams that should've been big wins. Be a Houston fan, that's your thing. Just remember that none of us on this board will see our respective teams in the Rose Bowl. Maybe in the future, and be hopeful and supportive of that. But this isn't NCAA '13. Put the controller down and live in the real world, son. -
Could this be the biggest UNT sports weekend in history ?
meangreendork replied to NT03's topic in Mean Green Football
My two teams won. UNT over USA and Tulsa way over Cougar High. -
After ULM and WKU's performances, 6-6 might still happen. I'd love to see it take place, but the DB's have to be perfect in the next few weeks and our QB/WRs have to connect far better than they have today. A bowl game would be great and all, but an improved record with a younger team than last year's is still fine.
-
And yet, our team has trouble with South Alabama. I hope Coach Mac's got the QBs thing figured out for next season. I'm sure our DBs will improve, there's no doubt about that. It's the QBs and WRs I'm worried about.

Petraeus resigns
meangreendork replied to H-towngreen's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Well, conservatives not thinking they weren't hardline enough is pretty funny. "We didn't get enough votes, so we need to do more to divide with our already divisive public image!" And for Petraeus, I can sort of see the conspiracy here, but I would think that even if he wasn't the acting Director of the CIA, he could still be brought in for the hearing. Being in the chair or not really doesn't have any impact on whether or not someone does or doesn't have information when they were in that position. Plus, Petraeus' affair was already scuttlebutt during the course of the book being written. Hell, the woman's husband even went semi-public (alluding to it, but not naming names) prior to the Benghazi incident. If you ask me, if it is an excuse to keep Petraeus out of the hearing, I wouldn't call it conspiracy, I'd call it a damn weak cop-out based on a semi-convenient situation. I -
GMG Marijuana Poll
meangreendork replied to Harry's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
I don't really get high, but yeah. Legalize, tax it like alcohol, and then use that to put some cash in the coffers. -
Well, that certainly explains a lot. It's hard to have an 8-4 team with a big list of young players.
-
The ASU offense is very fast and very tricky in the passing game. They've given a lot of their opponents, SBC or not, fits. We have a young secondary, so they were more or less stuck with a bad hand to start the game. The hope was for the offense to fill the scoring gap, but without an effective passing game, I don't think that game was winnable.

ASU is trying very hard to hand this game to us
meangreendork replied to aprice's topic in Mean Green Football
This is assuming their backup isn't as good. Some of us thought MTSU would be easier without Cunningham, but their backup was just as good and their OL showed us that they are a big part of Cunningham's success. For the other games, they're all toss-ups. The only game I know that should be a win is the one against USA. They only have weak wins under their belt. -
I was going to be impressed if Troy won, but then I saw that Tennessee is the bottom of their conference and their wins are rather weak.

Actually, http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2012/oct/30/tennessee-conservative-union-chairman-calls-scott/ [At the time] married physician hooks up with patient, gets her pregnant, pressures her to get an abortion while he's in the process of divorce.

I still want to see our other QBs go out there, especially if DT's in that "can't find my rhythm 'til 3rd quarter" mood.
