  1. Stirring the pot or not, this case should also be pretty quick to close up. Hell, let's say he was called "cracker" and they were, in fact, high. The teens' car was searched and no firearms found. They might have talked threats up, but no action seemed to have been taken. Still, Dunn thought it was a good idea to start putting rounds into their car. I don't think SYG counts here at all. The teens appeared to have to gone back to their vehicle, meaning they probably gave ground, and then Dunn starting firing at them. I'm pretty sure that the teens dress, choice of music, body and verbal language played a part in this. There's a slight chance skin color did as well, but I can't say for sure since I don't know Dunn's attitudes on that. And as has been said before - you never see dude that are high on weed get violent. Hungry? Sleepy? Happy? Sure. But violent? No.
  2. To go along with this: http://www.jsonline.com/news/crime/opening-statements-in-spooner-trial-turn-on-intent-mental-capacity-b9955359z1-215676871.html In short, teen and mom are taking out trash, older neighbor accuses son of stealing weapons from his home, proceeds to shoot him. Interestingly, the defense is trying to use an argument that boils down to "Spooner didn't intend to kill Simmons." But this case and the El Paso case seem pretty clear by comparison to the Martin/Zimmerman case.
  3. I can dig this. Zim should've followed procedure and stayed at a distance and only report. Martin should've gone the hell home and called for law enforcement.
  4. He's probably looking at UTSA's record as just raw numbers and not looking at it based on strength-of-schedule. It looks like they're a powerhouse, but anyone will look like a powerhouse school when your schedule involves beating up small children who just happen to be in pads.
  5. I occasionally do work with the Texas Great Pyrenees rescue group - they're always looking for new adoptive owners but they're always in need of new fosters for the dogs.
  6. It's still a mess that looks like it's a template that just happens to have our stuff in it. It's just less of a mess than it was before.
  7. I wouldn't call it a few short years. Sure, in reference to the history of slavery, but not in reference to those living it. "Hey Toby, I know you've been shackled up, whipped, beaten, yelled at, deprived of food, shackled again, beaten, whipped again, and probably separated from your loved ones, but hey bro, it was only 20 years. It wasn't that long."
  8. Priorities and all. Lots of people don't have the ability to see past their wallets and it's pretty evident with how society has turned out.
  9. The Dubai Bowl? Hah, sure. Assuming Dubai hasn't been overrun by the desert sands as all of the poorly paid construction workers steal materials and make a ship that takes everyone back to their home nation. Not like the massive loans to pay the construction costs were gonna be paid for anyway.
  10. Both brought to you by Verus. In all honesty, I don't see a lot of business there or the Queenie's.
  11. I find that in most cases, race isn't the dividing line, it's socio-economic background.
  12. A Subway there just doesn't make sense - partially because it's a very corporate chain in an area of smaller shops, and even if it was down near Mellow Mushroom and the other chains, it wouldn't make sense there either because by comparison, Subway is horrifically boring. Oh and yes, the redo on the sign is terrible and feels even less genuine than it did before. It went from "we're a boring chain" to "we're a boring chain AND we're trying to fool you into thinking we're not, but we're not doing a good job of it."
  13. That train and bus system has to be ready to expand to accommodate all of the commuters. And the commuters have to be ready to go without a car commute every day of the week. Their wallets are ready to go without driving to work everyday but I doubt all of their personalities are.
  14. I'm secretly (though not now) hoping that the Subway suddenly gives people salmonella and is shut down by the health department. I'd rather that building be empty than be a Subway. I don't mind chain spots, but someplace like a Subway is in the same category of bland and ubiquitous as a Starbucks. Can an interesting chain be there, if anything? Plus, that sign is an eye sore on a building that nice looking.
  15. If I remember right, an upmarket Mexican restaurant was originally supposed to be there and I was a bit excited about it. My guess is that the deal went sour (not like a bad mafia flick, but still bad), so the property owners asked for someone, anyone to take the spot, and I guess Subway had the better bid. But good god, a Subway on the square is pretty ridiculous. Odds are that only the people who don't know the restaurants will go there, but I don't imagine it'll last very long. I don't mind Subway, but that place doesn't really belong on the square. Also, good to see Oak Street getting props here. It's overshadowed my old drinking place of choice (Riprocks) for about a year or so because of the selection and the atmosphere. Good drinks without the horrible overcrowding.
  16. If I remember right, a lot of the bridges constructed at the tail end of the interstate highways project were rushed and built without redundancies. Welp, those politicians need to solve that and the voters need to figure out their voting priorities.
  17. Should be interesting, especially since Abbey Inn is also planning a rooftop expansion.
  18. I'd rather keep the eagles alive and make sure our energy use and carbon emissions low, but between the two, I'll focus more on the carbon emissions. I mean, the Earth is capable of repairing its own environment but like anything, it's got its limits. I don't want to see what they are. I think tech could solve the issue of keeping the eagles away from the turbines. Some sort of high-frequency sound or something that keeps them from the area would probably help, and it's pretty silly that no one in the system has proposed something that keeps them out of the area.
  19. The AAC would need to actually exist, and play games for a year first.
  20. Devil's advocate - I can see why the IRS would want to keep an eye on NFP political organizations because those orgs can shield their donors from scrutiny, so it's important that the IRS actually focus on NFP political groups. A major issue is that the tax code for NFP groups is really loosely worded so it's hard to figure out what exactly does or doesn't qualify as it pertains to political action groups. So while the scrutiny needs to be there, it needs to be aimed at everyone. A couple things of note: A Bush appointee was in place as the IRS targeted liberal California churches in/around 2006. That same person is also in place now, but since it looks as if this whole thing happened at the lower levels, the presidential administration of whomever the IRS leader was appointed under may be completely irrelevant.
  21. I'd hate to see Tulsa miss out. I don't think SMU is worth adding, though. And us? We've got a ways to go.
  22. Can DT get it done? Yes. If he's playing like he did against Kansas State. Will he? I don't know. Consistency is an issue. 14TDs/14INTs isn't a good stat.
  23. "UNSANCTIONED LEAGUE" I don't think a sanction keeps someone from hitting someone else in the face, pulling their hair and elbow jamming them, stepping on their legs, or keeps parents from pulling guns at kid baseball games.
