  1. Yeah, that's what I want to know. Random mooks on Twitter isn't the same as say, HFC at an area HS that gets a lot of UNT offers, or people that are deep into college football recruiting journalism.
  2. Yeah, but Wilson? Wilson gives me the sort of feeling Chancellor did in his first year. That "this kid is gonna be something special" feeling. Wilson changes direction very quickly and his straight-line speed is great. Right now, his vision needs a bit of work, but once he gets that solid, he's gonna be the sort to turn the tide of a game on a single run.
  3. Aggressive defense made all the difference in the 2013-2014 season. Skladany had the plan and the athletes to make it happen and we all saw what it was capable of. I'm hoping our new DC can do the same thing, using aggressive defense to place the offense in favorable field position, create and keep momentum, and better yet, put points on the board.
  4. Man, I didn't know we also got Zach's brother, too. These are two really big grabs.
  5. Pie in the sky - I hope Smith maybe shows Williams a bit on how to make the right use of all of his incredible talent so that Williams can be a better QB. That, or Williams somehow takes his height, speed, and agility and becomes a bad-ass WR. I am pretty sure Smith starts next season with McNulty as the backup. Means will probably be a change-of-pace QB. I think Chumley going RS will be a great thing for him. We'll have to see about the walk-ons. Some people discount those guys, but you never know with them.
  6. On paper, this all looks really good to me. Smith and Finney look like our biggest wins. I am a little sad about Howard, but the DB adds and Finney make it a little less painful. I am really looking forward to seeing what Smith can do and hope to see him lead the 1st or 2nd team at Spring Ball. I'm hoping to see some of the newer WRs out there, too. I hope to see some more creative playcalling, but...
  7. Size is one thing, but if the guy has good/passable size and great speed and technique, that's even better. A lot of people put emphasis on raw size, but forget none of that is worth anything if that player isn't mobile, disciplined, and well-trained.
  8. Smith looks to be patient in the pocket but with the sort of awareness to get his feet moving without tucking the ball away and trying to make yards on his own. I like that even on the run, he's still checking his pass progression. Hell, it looks like he can improvise when he needs to -that play at 3:21 looked like a disaster in waiting but turned into a huge gain. I also know this goes without saying, but this guy has some miracle legs on him too. I'd like to see how spring turns out. Maybe Smith starts and brings us success while DW improves and maybe shapes up to be as good as we all like to think he is. Sidenote - can we get a look at some of his WR corps?
  9. I think I agree with that. Mendoza wasn't ready for the college game. Not even close. Had Dodge kept Bliel and then eventually replaced bits and pieces of his staff with college-level talent, he'd still be here. I think that Dodge and Canales had the offensive game figured out, but without a solid DC, well - high scoring losses are the result.
  10. Smith has been a perpetual free agent his whole career in the NFL. Maybe not the best guy?
  11. Oh man, USM. They were doing really well for a few years and then BAM, last season happened to them.
  12. I kind of want to see what the 2013 schedule would've been minus scoring opportunities and scores from the D and the ST.
  13. Ending 5-7 after the way the season has gone isn't all that bad. Might help with recruiting (it won't be as bad as posting 4-8), and it'd be a good morale boost into the offseason.
  14. Combo of all factors, but really, a lot of the offensive production was a result of turnovers caused by the defense and by good field position as a result of the special teams. Those two teams held the line when the offense couldn't and they did more than just produce good field position and turnovers, they also cut into the morale of the other teams AND they put points on the board. I guess someone could get real into the stats and see how many points and therefore, games, were won by either great field position, points, or turnovers from the special teams and defensive units.
  15. Unless this QB has some sort of disciplinary or legal issues that is causing MSU to walk away, he needs to see an offer from UNT. If doesn't end up being a great QB here, maybe he becomes a WR, or maybe one of the QBs we have changes position. I just think we need to do that.
  16. I wonder the same thing. I'm pretty sure someone had to know about this within that span of 10 years AND that it should've been checked on.
  17. It'll be a nice, convenient cycle, too. No P5 schools will schedule a G5 school they might lose to. The P5 schools will do all they can to snatch up the best talent. And at the end of it all, the "new" BCS will say "those schools don't deserve to get in our party because they don't have the talent or the record for it", all while stealing away the talent and the chances to get the right record. Unless you're one of those standouts, like Louisville or TCU. Which, good on them, btw.
  18. There was a flip around the time of the Nixon administration. At that point, the Republicans were able to pull a very nice portion of the African American vote, and with being the party that helped to drive the civil rights changes of the time, they rightly deserved the vote of African Americans. I'll never dispute about what the Republican party did up until the Nixon administration. What made it so bad was that Nixon was among the Republicans warning others in his party about the direction they were going at the time - drawing in southern voters that would vote on race and religion. Nixon was smart when he got the vote of the South - he appealed to the conservative values, ones he generally agreed with. He was worried that in courting the South, the party would end up courting racists and highly religious people, and then inadvertently welding them together. The problem was that while Nixon was doing all of the things he should've done in the realm of civil rights, other republicans started drawing the crowd that Nixon advised them against - basically types like George Wallace (mind you, this is Wallace in his "I hate civil rights" version). 0
  19. In which he's forgotten about the Southern Strategy and the R/D demographic flip that came along side it. The labels may have changed, but the ideology looks to have stuck around.
  20. Denton has something like 250+ drill set-ups in the city limits, actually. The fact the city officials allowed so many set-ups in the first place is sort of the root, but not the cause of the problem. The issue is that the city didn't factor in the growth and spread of residential areas, and they didn't manage to wrangle in the energy companies when they had the opportunity to do so, like (I think KRAM1) said, they punted the ball. If the city officials got more involved earlier on, some sort of compromise might've been met. Here's a funny tidbit: the man who devised shale extraction (fracking) learned from one of his early experiences in oil when he was working in Galveston. In order to drill for oil, his company would have to set up a rig in city limits, near residences. He basically set up a pretty discrete, low profile rig, got friendly with the locals and it all worked out. He said the extraction process could do a lot of good as far as energy independence and positive environmental impact. He also said that the industry will do what it wants to people and the planet if left to its own devices.
  21. I think the locals won't show up at UNT athletics because its most visible programs have failed to produce a winning product in consistent fashion.
  22. The anti-ban side went into some really questionable territory with their campaign. I take it back, it wasn't questionable, it was wrong.
  23. The convention center might not have been a good move - at least not now. I guarantee the council will be all in favor of one in the next 10 years, though.
