Everyone and their mother has a tape of the NO Bowl last year. They now know that the thing to do is speed rush with 7-9 and overload the OL before it can really do anything. Now it's compounded with a rookie QB. Time to change the play philosophy.

TSU new possible in-state rivalry game
meangreendork replied to Mean'n'Green07's topic in Mean Green Football
We DO NOT NEED a rivalry with a D1AA team. We can't get respect by trading punches with TSU. Trading hits with TCU, SMU, and hell- even the two Houston area teams would be so much more desirable than with TSU. -
Smartest post I've read in a while. There's no getting rid of Dickey. We should all come to this conclusion. We can't ask for his head, but we can ask for an improved team and improved gameplan.

We could not beat Sam Houston State.
meangreendork replied to Green Grenade II's topic in Mean Green Football
It's simple- We can't get rid of Dickey. If he pulls another conference championship, he'll probably stay. Even if he doesn't, there's probably not enough money to buy him out and find a better replacement. Deal with it. As for replacing Flannigan, that may be more feasible, but... -
Let's this straight once and for all- Dickey isn't going anywhere. We can't buy him out and we sure as heck can't afford another coach. We've had this 'fire Dickey' BS already, and it never leads anywhere. The only option is to replace him at the end of his contract. As for the offensive coordinator, that may differ. Stick behind the team, folks. I hate this as much as you do, but I doubt that anyone here can get Dickey fired or fork enough cash for a buyout and replacement.

For Pete's sake- Don't blame the Defense! How effective can any defense be if they are on the field for what amounts to the entire game? I challenge any of you who're pointing the finger at the D to try running sprints for 3 hours is terrible heat. I can assure you that you won't be 1/2 as fast in the last hour than you were when you started. The problem is with the offensive coaching- keep the ball in hand and give the D time to rest. You can't expect any team at any level to stick the D out for almost 3 hours without rest and perform at 100%,

Great pic of Emmitt Smith and J-Mo
meangreendork replied to medpilot21's topic in Mean Green Football
Stop complaining about JT's carries. Jeezus. You gotta understand that if the OL isn't blocking well, it doesn't matter who runs the ball because they'll never get more than a few yards from the play. We all know that the OL is the anchor of the offense. Without them, nothing can really happen. With a good OL and a rookie QB, he can have time to pass or scramble. A good OL can help a new RB make good yardage. Without a strong OL, you can have bloody Vince Young back there and it won't matter because he'll be hit before he can decide to scramble. -
I'm not worried about the DFW region outside of people who don't know to slow down when it rains. I am worried about the coastline, though. It'll leave a good portion of the area a fullout disaster area- but it's like the meteorologists have said- it's been something expected for years now- storms to sweep in and do major damage to the coastline of the US. Too bad the politicians are too busy dealing with small issues to hit big picture things like emergency management. There's a similar scenario forecasted for the west coast for a large earthquake to do catastrophic damage to California. This's been in study for about 20 years, too. Let's hope there's some planning taking place for this scenario.

It's a complex thing here...DD? Flanny? The OL? Danny? MTSU hit us with a million guys in the box about 2 weeks ago. Thanks to a good DL and our QB's difficulty at stretching the D, it worked. Southern Miss finally did what a lot of Belt schools have been trying to do- and that's stack the line to hit the RB before he can break a run, or hit the QB before he can pass. Southern Miss had a bigger stronger D, to boot. Tulsa had it even easier with a new center, bigger guys, and a rookie QB. I've done this in that NCAA game where if you know they can't pass, then keep blitzing until they show they can pass. It controls the pace of the game and it also keeps the O off the field. I'd like to think that DD and Flanny have by now realized that it only works on SBC teams, and in the MTSU case, it doesn't work without effective passing. They'll have to find another gameplan because run-run-run doesn't work unless we can PASS.

We know about the ESPN2 coverage for Troy and ArkSt...what about other ESPN+ broadcasts?

If JaMario is hurt why doesnt anyone come out
meangreendork replied to calvin's topic in Mean Green Football
He's got a hamstring tweak at this point. He's not (to this point) injured enough to pull him, and he can't redshirt. AND As for the carries per game, I don't think that it matters which RB you put in if you can't get the OL to block for him. We can put whomever into the backfield, but if he doesn't get blocks, he won't get anywhere. I'm sure our twin RB's know this as well. -
Who Should Start At Quarterback This Week
meangreendork replied to Eagle-96's topic in Mean Green Football
Danny. I saw at the MTSU game what he can do when he has time to throw and when he settles down enough to throw even on the scramble. If he can shake the jitters from Tulsa, he should be able to be effective this weekend. -
Yeah, because Tech is showing how good it is by taking on DIAA teams. Is it really #19 in the country? Not until they actually show it in DIA play. Watching Tech's last games and getting hyped about it is alot like a 6'2" 250lb senior in high school jumping a 5'6"100lb freshman and bragging about it. And don't even mention anything about being a real fan. I'm still behind this team- are you?
-
Yeah, they can compete. The team has the talent level, the D can fight off both teams, but the coaching has to improve, the OLine and the QB has to get better. And just as well- I hope TJ's okay. The guy who came in for him was kinda small, and TJ looked really hurt tonight.
-
No doubt- I love the guys. I don't like the coaching. The playcalls vs MTSU on O were terrible. D was sharp, though. Seriously folks, these guys almost put OU away, if not for OU's better raw talent, Tulsa would've won. I still expected a coach to actually try to win a game...especially at home AND Especially on PARENT WEEKEND! RV should have a talk with DD about crap like this and how it affects parents.
-
I dunno...you'd think the staff would figure something out for OOC games- you know, win? There'd better be Ws at KState and vs LaTech for this poor coaching.
-
I'm surprised...though I shouldn't be. A loss...expected, but I was hoping for a win. A loss of 1-14 points is okay, but not by 50+ And let's be real here- we didn't earn that safety. I think the D did its job given the situation, but the O needs to give them time to rest.
-
See, 12-2 at end of the 1st half, I figured the game could still be won. Heck, I firmly believe the was supposed to be a win, NT+4 or something like that. This was assuming the OL would hold up and halftime adjustments would be made. Adjustments were made, but not by NT. Tulsa did us the way they did OU, and it wasn't a real shock. The D tried to hold Tulsa off, but it's a hard thing to do when 3 and out comes in 30 seconds. The D held off MTSU, but obviously, the Offense has to step up and give the D time to rest. Bad passing, bad blocking and bad playcalling are to blame here.

Are we giving Tulsa too much credit?
meangreendork replied to emmitt01's topic in Mean Green Football
No. Until we have W for that game, the answer is a no. Since this season's had some weirdness with TCU/OU/SMU, it's hard to say where they stand, but I can assure that Dickey's telling our guys to play them like they can beat us. -
Mejias Selections - picks/scores this week
meangreendork replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
This'll be a close game. I honestly don't know where to vote on this one. But if I'm picking NT and I'm picking with my brain---I say NT by 7. And BTW- I was basically right with my +14 prediction of the MTSU game. -
What's the story on your TE? That guy was killer against OU, and had they not buckled down in time, you'd be the 2nd team adding a W to your OU slot.
-
You know what I think? It really doesn't matter what I think. And for that matter, it really doesn't matter what any of us think about the unis this year. The program isn't going to shell out money for new unis, and we've already had the discussion that these are just for this year. All this jawing on about a uniform that won't be here next year anyway is really a lot of wasted energy. Rather than moaning about unis, how about we focus on what matters- and that's the Tulsa game!
-
Tulsa can stack for the run all they want. Meager knows how to move the ball in the air and sell the PA. We have WRs and TEs that have good hands.
-
I was on field yesterday- The track looks like it's got some new paint, the SBC Champs and Welcome signs are down right now. The pressbox looks the same, but there's a new sign on the back of it. The deck is still being built. I hope they move fast; they only have 1 week left!
-
If I only saw the MTSU game, I'd think our RBs were weak, too. They'll put on a nice show on Saturday, though. We had better watch their TE, though. Sharp, SHARP receiver with good routes and better hands.
