  1. These were good games to throw in a backup QB: 10/30 UL Monroe W 45-20 11/13 Idaho W 51-29 11/20 at Ark State W 31-7
  2. Green Nightmare is right- While I strongly believe that Meager can be a great QB, I also believe that Dickey kind of messed up with the reload phase. It's not like we lost Drew Smith this summer- Dickey had an entire year to ready the other QBs with more playing time and find another QB with actual play time to hold the fort.
  3. The major failing was that last year, our other QBs saw almost NO playing time. It's hard to get good performance from a QB who hasn't had field time. It's about the same as expecting a new soldier to fight as hard and as long as a veteran- it just doesn't happen. Even OU, with its resources, is having trouble with Rhett Bomar. Dickey's gonna have to get smarter about reps for younger players, period.
  4. Gamebreaker- 1.)I don't blame you for being disappointed with Danny Meager- I am too. He can get better, and he has to, he knows it moreso than we do. 2.)The OL had 8-9 people hitting it all the time. I challenge YOU to block 2-3 people at one time. Let's see if you can hold them off. 3.)The Defense did what it could- it fought Troy for almost 3 hours. Yeah, it gave up yards, but those don't mean squat without points. Matter of fact, you can rack up 1000 yards but it doesn't mean squat if you don't get the points behind them. 4.)The crowd attendance was good- that's about what we get for Saturday games...I assume you'd know that. The last time we had a Tuesday game, it may have had 10k in attendance. 5.)Maybe the band wanted our guys to perk up and fight back. 6.)They're young players. It happens. 7.)It's not too hard to be a fan of a team that already has everything- funding, fanbase, resources. It can't be too hard to be a fan of a team like that, can it? It's easy to say, "Hook em Horns" when you know a million and a half people will do it, isn't it? It's something deeper and more passionate when you are behind your team, regardless of what happens on the field.
  5. No- this school is home for me. I came out of high school with no pride in that place- I got along well with a lot of people, did things for the school itself, but I didn't believe in it. I came to North Texas and I felt welcomed. This place is home- I can't dream of being at another university. No, UNT isn't a bigtime school, nor is the football team bigtime, but in that is a certain kind of pride you can't get at a larger school. I feel like the school deserves that kind of pride since it doesn't have the same resources and money as the big schools- but they still manage to do a lot with it. This is North Texas- this is home!
  6. Don't pull Drew Smith here- I still believe that he was a great QB at his level...but you have to remember that the SBC is a different field than it used to be. After the USM game, every team is hammering us with 8-9 in the box, and I don't know if Scott Hall would be great back there. He'd do better than Meager since he reads and leads more effectively, but he'd still have trouble, especially since he isn't as mobile. BUT- Danny has potential. I think he needs time...but there has to be a limit. AND- The RB's are about situation. JT seems to handle running outside better while PC is better at jamming through the middle. Do both. D
  7. Off the field: Practice- lots of it, passing in a variety of situations. Playbook- give Danny the full book so there's no limit to the play variety. This may make him feel a little more loose. On the field: Short passes- 5 and 10yd passes to take pressure off of him and get him confident.
  8. The bright side is that there's still the rest of the season. Troy may still stuble this season, our guys may still turn it up and roll the rest of the season, inluding LaTech. I still think that the fireworks shouldn't be set off unless we win. We might as well announce that the fireworks are for the opposition since they seem to be the only ones enjoying the show.
  9. *looks for a flag* Well, since the officials didn't call it, I figure it's okay to blind/risk critically injuring a someone by jamming their face. I think I'll go to class and jam my professor in the face like that.
  10. The no-huddle, or at least, a quicker paced offense will be reliant upon a good QB. Meager has to grow up- if he does, we can have a fast, balanced offense. If he doesn't, then we'll be hoping for something great next fall
  11. Sounds like an idea. It throws off the D so they don't have time to call coverage and it keeps the team loose. Sometimes, it's bad to think about what you're doing when you should just go out and do it.
  12. About the short routes: Meager was doing that more effectively than the long routes towards the last part of the game. He still had trouble with accuracy, but it seemed like that was more effective than the long routes. About the play-action: It doesn't work against an 8-9 man rush. It can buy time against a team running a normal defense, but when those 8-9 guys are in the backfield anyways, it doesn't matter who has the ball.
  13. Check my other posts...I'm not going easy on the offense...I'm actually taking aim at the QB.
  14. The OL talent is there. It just has about 8 or 9 people to fight off.
  15. That bend-not-break defense and soft-zone coverage really does stretch the drive out longer than it needs to be.
  16. I'm proud of the team in general, but more or less disappointed with Meager. The rest of the team tried- and hard, too. Thing is, the QB is pretty much the cornerstone of a football team. I'm glad that Coach Fry still backs the school- it has improved a great deal...and that's just in the last 5 years!
  17. We may still beat them. Maybe. I love the team, and will be at every home game, but I'm worried about future wins because of the QB. AND Speaking of how others see us, what about Hayden Fry? How does he see it? If I were a player, or a coach...heck, a waterboy, I'd try to make the game as great as possible for someone who's had such an impact at this school.
  18. I don't know about you guys, but seeing fireworks after a loss at our house might as well make the fireworks for the opposing team. It's...well, wasted and almost obnoxious to see those go off as the team and fans leave feeling just about awful. Or. Meager can learn to pass and relieve some OL pressure and give the D time to rest.
  19. It is THE biggest game of the 'Belt in the last two years. Heck, this may as well be the SunBelt Conference Championship game. There is a lot at stake here- what will probably be a bowl bid and conference championship season, bragging rights, and for us, student turnout and support at the rest of the games this season!
  20. The win percentage is higher. I'll take that over points scored any day.
  21. As far I'm concerned, the word "Home" should refer to Fouts Field for Tuesday afternoon and Tuesday night. When you go "home" you're going to Fouts! The dork has spoken.
  22. The gold helmets are no more, my friend. A lot of the oldtimers are having a stomachknot about it, but from what I've read on Baylorfans, it's a player decision. First- Baylor steals our Battle Flag (makes me downright mad for obvious reason) Now- Baylor steals our color scheme while basically abandoning their school colors. What's next? Are they gonna steal our band uni's and fight song?
  23. I was wondering about the Baylor unis...aren't they the Bears or something like that? I thought they had green/gold for colors, not green/white. If you couldn't see the BU on the helmets, you'd swear it was our guys down there. Is it Jamario? Or is it Baylor's #20?
  24. It'd be nice if Coach Fry came back to UNT as a coach. Will it happen? I doubt it, but I'd jump for joy if it did.
  25. If you put glue on the walls...it's not the unis they'll worry about. It's the fumes that leave them wobbly-headed they'll worry about.
