Phillips should start the rest of the year
meangreendork replied to stebo's topic in Mean Green Football
I concur. Danny, with more composure would do great with a Spread-Option offense, but he's still shaky in the pocket and DD won't play that style ball anytime soon. But for the rest of the year, let's see what Matt can do. He did wonders on the fly, let's see how he does when he's got the whole week and the whole game to do his thing. BTW- Could any of you imagine Hall at DE? -
I doubt they'd pick up Dickey. I'd go for a WAC/CUSA/MAC coach before I go for Dickey. We'll see if you're right Shaft...you have a tendency to spout at the mouth and I don't think this will be any different.

Phillips Gives UNT Offense Some Spark
meangreendork replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
MP had better start, regardless of DM's injury status. Truth is, he kicked the team into gear and produced more in one quarter than DM has in most of his games. He might not be the man to lead the team, but we won't know unless we let him try. We've put DM at the helm and we've seen that he has potential, but hasn't used it all. We've see that MP has potential, and we have yet to see how much he's using. -
The way the W/L record is, numbers like that won't shock me...but I will be saddened by those kind of numbers. We still have another game...RIGHT AFTER BLOODY THANKSGIVING. I'll have to hustle northwards to make that game, but you can rest assured I'll be in the stands, no matter how empty (or, should fate smile upon us) full they are.

"So, what do you think of your Mean Green..NOW?!"
meangreendork replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
Good shooting, Rick. Fandom isn't about winning or losing. When the chips are down, EVERY team, no matter how big it is now, has gotten the tar smacked out of it. It's the true fans that really stick with the team when it's 11-0 and when it's 0-11. Besides, it's easy to like a team when it wins. It's also easy to do a lot of things in life when it's easy and popular. -
Family Guy references.

Details. Anyways, I like Matt for next week. You don't just come in and rack up 17 points and not have something to prove. I mean, if he plays with that kind of urgency, maybe he's what the team needs. I like DM's speed, but I don't like how he lobs the ball for grabs. Looks like DD should've extended the QB tryout process this summer.

It did rain recently. I dunno...this's too fishy, and it's not like the burning palettes will just cause all of Eagle Point to go up. They burn to just embers in a few hours, and if the fire were hot enough to just cause things to spontaneously combust, then there should've been a serious fire years ago. I can't tell you how much dry brush there is near the stack every year.

Circumstances? BS. The athletes are better, more experienced and have a better record. How do we have a difficulty winning? OH. Yeah, it's Dickey, and he always has excuses. You know, I bet many of us wouldn't be so hard on him if he'd just say, "Hey, I messed up big time. There's no excuse for a game like this- You won't see this again."

I'd like to know about MP's time at Lakeview? How did he perform, and how does that stack against DM?
-
Meager could be if he can learn to calm the [blank] down under pressure and follow through on his passing. BUT I SWEAR if Matt doesn't start next week, I'll start a riot.
-
Now don't get me wrong- Meager has potential. He looked alright against ULL (minus the INT and the almost-INT). But Matt came in without notice, with part of the game time already elapsed, and racked up 23 points. I like this guy. Funny how people took shots agains Phillips.
-
While we're at it... How about a BringbackcoachFry.com?
-
No offense- But I'm plain bloody sick of fireworks! It really irks me that they STILL fire them off after we lose. I mean, we might as well advertise that we shoot them off for the opposing team as a welcome and a thank you for winning. GRR, I'll stab myself the game is a NT loss and they fire those (insert deity here)-forsaken fireworks.

I like that idea. The problem is that there's the usual Homecoming stuff the same night at the usual site. I really think the school should've rerouted that to the basketball games. Do the contests and whatnot between games and also funnel students for some great BB attendance.

Shouldn't NT Be Shooting For Top 25 Status?
meangreendork replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Like Hayden Fry said... "Someone's gotta be #1, why can't we?!" I think Dickey needs to coach with that kind of ambition. I feel like he only coaches to win the SBC and that's it. He may be happy with that, but I'm certain the players want so much more. I don't think Fry gave excuses for OOC games...I do believe he coached with all of his heart, and I want Dickey to do that and make it obvious to us that he does. We got so much publicity this year and it bothers me to see that none of it really came to fruition (so far). -
That's how the law falls. Wish we could burn, but you know...we can't do anything illegal.
-
How do you NOT complain about calling a running play on 3rd and long? I'd even let an option get past me, but not a straight up run. I love PC, but I don't want to put that kind of pressure on him.
-
I agree. I'd like to think NFL coaches will look past this year- the problems with his numbers this year are more than out of his control. If the game becomes a L, then I'd like to think Dickey hit them with every play and player we have. It's a good idea to bring the new guys in for some reps. NT by 3-7 points if its win. FAU by 7-14 if they win.
-
That's a rough break. It reminds me of the MTSU receiver who broke his leg after a JaMel Branch tackle. This was going to be his big year, too. Losing is one thing, but not even being able to play has to feel worse. My sympathies to them both. The Michigan State transfer will probably still be troublesome.

So if the SunBelt has no 6 game winners...
meangreendork replied to Green Grenade II's topic in Mean Green Football
Keep your mouth shut until you beat NT. This WAS the year for your Blue Raiders to win...and you still choked at home. We'll buy the trash talk from Troy and ULL. I'll take the trash talk from every school in the SBC that wins against NT, but until your team wins or takes the SBC ring, keep your mouth shut. Troy and ULL played a better game, period. MTSU gave up too many turnovers and didn't score when it should have against a tired defense. -
Yeah, pretty much- for all of them. Hall- I didn't get to see much of the 2000 season. I did see the little bit he did perform in practices in 2001, then everything with after that. He did run a lot less, but he still wasn't as fast as Meager. SBC- Yeah, we're all on about the same footing now. This means the team has to find an edge somewhere, anywhere. Hall Again- I'm glad you see this, too. Many fans only remember the last 2 years under Hall and forgot that he also had trouble his first year. Even Drew Smith, with his miracle season, had trouble completing passes and had to rely on his feet and defensive turnovers for the team to win. Don't let that say that he wouldn't have been a sharp QB if he were still with us, because I'm certain he had the makings of it. Meager is having the usual problems as a new QB, and a lot of fans forget that very rarely does a new QB come in and start lighting up scoreboards. For Meager- I think he'll be good if he works at it. Many of my friends want to hit the guy with a brick, but I think they need to be patient. Next year, we return JT, Quinn as well as the TEs. I also have this crazy feeling that #49, Brandon Jackson, may take up JQ's torch after he graduates. Barring injury, the offense has the potential to be something really special. I'd like to see Hall's 1st year stats, Smith's QB year stats compared with a projection of Meager's stats and see how they rank up.
-
I think the immediate need for next season is on the OL and DL positions. Everything else is fine at this point at the other positions. The new secondary won't be new anymore, the LB's will be even better, our QB will improve (TRUST ME!), etc. But for all of those positions to work, the OL has to have experience, and I think good JUCO linemen can provide the size and leadership to do so.
-
We all know he has to improve on all fronts or go. I think he needs to be nicer to the fans, I think he needs to make the team perform at its potential and instill some on and off-field discipline. But- Where is the money for a buyout going to come from? Where's the money for a new coach going to come from? Who would do well at UNT, and who would coach here?
-
A. I don't think RV has enough authority to trash and hire new staff. 1.) The school doesn't have the money to buyout contracts and sign new ones. 2.) Chances are, the BOR won't let this happen. B. Barring grades and injury, the fresh new look is the Scrambling QB. 1.) Meager looked better on Saturday than he has in awhile. He's got the ability to sit in and make the pass, but he's got to improve his passing in order to be the QB I'm almost certain he can be. People seem to forget that Scott Hall's freshman year wasn't at all his best, and alot of his passing success was due to a number of things: a.) The OL was stronger and the opposing D didn't rush 8-9 like they do now. b.) The SBC wasn't as competitive as it is now. c.) A lot of people on this board only saw Scott Hall's last 2 years as QB. 2.) If Byerly can get his act together, he can be part of the change as well. He's also got great legs on him, and he could also help out in the QB position. C. I don't know why you'd be associated with RF. 1.) No one outside of UNT probably knows who RF is, or even cares. 2.) No one will probably hold you accountable for RF's actions, so chill out. We know you're a hothead, but is silly.
